Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

I know some people don't want Ganon but nothing would please me more if he were somehow the final boss, I mean IMO if this is going to be the definitive Zelda game thus far, Ganon has to be the final boss. Please note this is just a personal opinion.

And I hope Ghirahim = Agahnim I mean come on the letters are just too damn close!

He won't be in this but I think he'll return in a big way on the first WiiU Zelda. I mean in the first Zelda to show off HD graphics you have to have the three main characters of the series.

It's been said I don't now how many times that it was confirmed that Ganon won't appear in Skyward Sword, but the game will touch upon the reason why he shows up in OoT.

Hmmm I can deal with that maybe if Ghirahim turns into Aganihm for the final fight. I know they said that Ghirahim isn't the main villain but if he becomes Aganihm he wouldn't be Ghirahim anymore.

The Skywardian bully with red hair kind of sort of resembles him, and I wonder how the relationship between him and Link plays out. Might not even be significant.

I still believe that he'll be in this game... no chance they're not doing it :p

I mean, rather than complaining it seems like a better use of this post might have been to start a more interesting conversation, or at least add to the current conversation in a way that doesn't come off as "uh guys come on ok don't be silly".

Perhaps if this wasnt VA in zelda discussion number 10000000, and perhaps if we all didnt know theres less than a snowballs chance in hell of it actually happening you would have a point. Dont paint me as being a debbie downer when Im just being realistic. If you want to 'discuss' it, you have to take the sweet with the bitter.

Same, towards the end of the game, definitely.

He has red hair, yellow eyes, and apparently rides a black Loftwing. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's just a coincidence, but yeah.

Some guy told me that "Zelda SS is looking just like Zelda TP with motion plus". What is wrong with that statement? (don't shoot the messenger btw I'm planning to buy this game).

Well a Zelda game is a Zelda game and it should have some resemblance... but yeah, Motion + thing is huge because enemies will be tougher this time around.

Actually, I'd be surprised if this weren't the case.
It's been confirmed in interviews that the groundwork is laid for Ganondorf in this game...considering that, the red-haired bully remembles him way too much to be coincidence.

I highly doubt Ganondorf himself will be in the game. They might BS it and say "the preincarnate spirit of Ganon" or have a bad guy named Ganobadguy whose spirit is reincarnated in Ganondorf or any other convoluted nonsense, but I don't believe for a second Ganondorf is in the game.

And it will definitely make combat much more interesting than previous games. I mean, I've been playing through OoT 3D and I've found that I've only used his signature spin attack four times during the game thus far, and I'm nearing the end of the game. It just isn't handy, especially since enemies just aren't that tough to kill.

and since I don't really care about the plot, that would be a-ok with me, plus I never really cared for Ganondorf. pig Ganon or bust.

Well it is basically the same graphical engine

Yep. Also, Zelda in this game is actually good/cute looking.

Maybe
the bully does some kind of a pact with the nightmare monster to receive the power to save zelda and gets corrupted in the process, becoming the first owner of the triforce of power

Maybe he
(the bully)
does something stupid and gets banished, and Koume and Kotake take him in. Bam, first Gerudo!

Yes, I'm salty the Koume and Kotake theory isn't getting discussed.

Haha. If this was a darker game and rated mature, I'd posit that Koume and/or Kotake rape him, creating a dark bloodline of red headed Gerudos since the progeny was conceived without love ala Voldemort style.

The first line of the review that I read was:

Zelda: Skyward Sword may be the swansong for the Wii, and may be overshadowed by a mere tech demo that showed Link in unrivalled detail on Nintendo’s next-generation offering.
Sorry, but your review was overshadowed to me by this mere sentence so much that I don't care to read the rest.

Huuuh, what just happened?

EDIT: Okay, yeah, the idea of a full game getting overshadowed by a tech demo is kind of stupid.

So the best Zelda yet eh?

[Uncharted fanboy rage]
The best Zelda in a series that contains the best game ever only getting a nine?!

Well, If its any consolation, the last line is "But overall, it’s an utterly essential videogame; a flash of fantastical brilliance in an increasingly commercial field of production line entertainment. Buffed and polished to a perfect point, Zelda: Skyward Sword is one in the eye for the naysayers, and a spectacular return to form for its developer; a solemn reminder that, when it comes to crafting worlds, nobody does it quite like Nintendo. 9/10" :p

I hate when reviewers use weasel words:

"It may be the swansong for the Wii."
"It may be overshadowed by a mere tech demo."

Well, is it or isn't it? The way it's written, it looks like the only goal of the sentence is to stir up controversy. What's next?

"Is Skyward Sword the ultimate realization of the ideas contained within Majora's Mask? Perhaps."

Sigh... You didn't read it properly then?

The best Zelda is... ZELDA TECH DEMO ON WII U!

Well, If its any consolation, the last line is
To be honest, my real problem lies within their reason of thinking so, technical graphic fidelity:

overshadowed by a mere tech demo that showed Link in unrivalled detail on Nintendo’s next-generation offering.

That review looks like a 10/10 for me, except for that part of overshowed. xD

Well he didn't seem to care for the first hour either. That could be where the point deduction comes from because the rest of the review is positive.

Spellbinding, dramatic and absolutely epic in both the world it paints and the story it tells, Zelda: Skyward Sword is a hugely important event for the Wii, for Nintendo, and for anyone with even a passing love for the venerable series it celebrates. But overall, it’s an utterly essential videogame; a flash of fantastical brilliance in an increasingly commercial field of production line entertainment. Buffed and polished to a perfect point, Zelda: Skyward Sword is one in the eye for the naysayers, and a spectacular return to form for its developer; a solemn reminder that, when it comes to crafting worlds, nobody does it quite like Nintendo.
Best Nintendo game in years? Seems so.

Are you seriously having hangups on a single fucking line in an otherwise glowing review?

Jesus fuck this is going to be hell.

Read my second post why I think this is stupid, well, why it is even more stupid.

And can't I be at least as dumb as they are?

Are you modering the OT ? I hope not otherwise you may have to go through some shit job.

I'm seriously feeling bad for the mods. :(
I feel sorry for them that they had to play an utterly essential game while being mentally under the shadow of a mere tech demo.

But I am sure I will feel most sorry for myself if I derail the thread with this any more :(

The Edge issue with Zelda SS review begins with an editorial that also says this game is essential, bringing qualities new to the medium.

It really must be quite something.

I assume so since that's the day the IGN review goes up.
I am more interested in the Eurogamer one like everybody here but maybe we'll get the first worthwhile piece of article this year on IGN with the SS review. Maybe.
