The sixth floor of an apartment complex?

Look, if they grappling hook their asses up here, then they deserve it.

My flatmate in university once went to get a drink of water at 4am and found a burglar climbing our drainpipe to get the open window on the apartment above us. We lived on the third floor.

Closed during the summer with A/C on. Open during Fall/Spring. Closed during winter with heater on.:D

This. Although I try not to use A/C and heater too much (I turn them off before I go to bed and usually only switch them on to cool down/warm up the apartment) since they're expensive on electricity and not good for your health.

I can't sleep with my window open any more. Since my new place is right at a road. The stuff that ends up on my window (dust and particles from gas) is very nasty. I alway sleepd with the window open.. took me some time to adjust.

I put a special filter in the airduct (thingie). If I only think about at... the crap I breath in when I sleep...

sigh.

I prefer to sleep with it closed as there are people around my apt awake at ungodly hours and the volume at which they talk seems unnaturally amplified somehow. Also there's these fucking birds tweeting all the goddamn time, fuck I hate twitter...
Unfortunately my girlfriend needs the window to be open.

Speaking of fan death, I need to get a Korean electric fan. I would love to have a fan with a timer.

Can't you just get a timer for your power strip or something?

The problem with sleeping with the window open is there is always a risk that a ninja will sneak in in the middle of the night and rape you.

But I don't have a window in my bedroom.

I leave my windows open all night, PC in my room is like a freakin heater.

ones with holes in them. I'll walk into my room in the middle of the day and there'll be a big ass fucking spider on my wall in the corner :lol

edit: and we just moved my bed to be right under the window :lol :lol

I hate it. Absolutely hate it. I would rather sweat than have it cracked for a little bit. Hell, I don't even like to roll car windows down for the same reason. It just bothers me...

Hmmm there is a chance this ninja could be female i suppose.

open, even in winter, even if it's -10°C, whatever.
I *need* fresh air. Otherwise I get the feeling i'm suffocating after a while.

This appartment doesn't have screens though, sucks!
Stupid flies...

This happens to me when I have the overhead fan on or sometimes the A/C. I think the stuffy stale air is better for me personally. It just dries me out with that stuff on.

I also live in the desert so.

Windows open, but have to be careful not to turn on the lights or the ceiling and the walls will get covered with mosquitoes in a matter of minutes. Also, the other day a flying cockroach entered through the window, but that's a risk I must assume; summer nights with closed windows are unbearable here (AC during sleep makes me feel asphyxiated).

probably a cat sneaking into the house and stealing your soul. But as you're grown up it can't do it all at once, it'll probably take a few days.

I know right. What type of neighborhoods do these guys live in? Sounds like something that only happens in family sitcoms.

Small town where you also dont have to lock your front door or car either. :D

Open, now I have a fever and cold.. ugh! But that might also be related to all the fans running in the house.

I fucking hate the summer.

No way in hell where I live the temp can reach 104 °F/ 40 °C at night and 122 °F/ 50 °C in the morning and it stays that way for 4-5 months.

It's gotten warmer this past week, so I've been sleeping with the cool night air drifting in. Recently I've had a bad sore throat upon waking. It's probably related, but I thought the fresh air would be more beneficial? With the window shut it gets too stuffy. Argh. Are you open or closed folks?

Open is like saying "Hi there, plz rob me"

For some reason I expected this thread to be about whether or not it's safe to sleep with your window open. No idea why; I live in a safe neighborhood myself.

I leave my window open, unless the weather's crazy or there's a bug infestation.

If you live at floor level, just put some metal bars. I don't see how a feeble crystal screen is going to deter anybody from robbing you.

bububu 100F is the boiling temperature for people. D:

I used to sleep with the window open all the time but when I got my waterbed I started closing it in the winter to save energy. Now I can't sleep with the window open any more when it's summer since I'm not used to the noise from outside any more.

i'd love to do it because it's been really hot the past couple of days, but my neighbourhood's full of loud people. plus, there are cars parking here ALL THE TIME, it seems. and quite a lot of times they'll leave the engine on for minutes.

i'm a light sleeper

That's enough of a reason not to ever open my windows again.

I used to sleep in the winter with the window wide open. I lived up in the mountains and it got into the teens at night...god I love an icebox to sleep in.

If you are waking up with a sore throat it's usually because the air is dry. It happened to me this morning and I had no window open with the A/C on, supposedly if this happens often buying a humidifier is helpful.

Dang. I love it when it cools down in Florida and I can sleep with the windows open, but upper 30s is my limit. Anything colder than that and my throat gets really dry and it's like a sore throat. My preferred sleeping weather is low 40s. Beautiful.

Yeah that is great...in college I just could not get to sleep if it was not freezing...granted I did have a huge fleece blanket and a USMA Army blanket that was super warm...

I can't sleep with the windows closed.

Having a TV on also helps me Greatly (i obviously set it on a timer to turn off after i fall asleep).

I don't know, i just don't like total silence/darkness... makes me uneasy.

My window has a Grate (i think that's the word) tho. That remains closed 100% of the time.

I suppose but wouldn't the timer turn everything on the strip off.

In the UK you can get timers that you plug things into. My disabled grandmother used to have them for her lights (they went on at 6pm and off at 11pm).

It depends. If the air isn't needed, I open my window. The only problem is that I'm on the bottom floor and 6 ac units are right outside my window so it get's loud during the summer regardless if the window is open or not.

Our screens are made of metal, and the only one we can open that's not in a bedroom is over the sink which is always full of dishes. Even if a robber could cut the screen and get in, we'd just find the guy with a fork wound through his heart in the morning.

I have a fan blowing in at night, its usually cool enough at night. Will need the window AC towards the end of july/august.

regarding fans.

They actually create heat in a sealed room. That is to say, they might push around air, provides an immediate drop in percieved temperature due to wind chill effect, but they don't actually remove heat from the system. On the otherhand, their running motors create heat over time, helping to heat up a room (over time) on a hot summer day.

They may not cool the room, but they do legitimately cool your body by improving the evaporation of moisture on your skin.
