Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Surprise surprise. The Amazon UK seller G-Hub replied to me and basically said what they have told a few of you - that my screen protectors were sent a week ago and they should be here by now and offered a replacement or a refund.

Chose a replacement, maybe they'll actually send them this time.

Yeah same story here.

I also asked for a replacement.

We'll see what happens.

So I got one of those AM glass screen protectors. Mainly because I take my Switch with me when I'm out and about. With the 3 in the house no one has had any signs of the dock scratching the screen.

I've not been keeping up with this thread but it still seems to be a really overblown nonissue. Perhaps I'm wrong, time will tell.

So is the amFilm still the best screen protector? Is the bubble issue when the switch is in the dock?
It has nothing to do with the dock. I got the small bubbles at the corner of the screen protector too even tho I never played docked.

Wrote amFilm and the answer was that a low number of protectors got this defect at the edge of the glass and they refunded me. Even tho the bubbles are so small they don't even annoy me. They also did not get bigger..so now I've my money back, I've a second protector I've not used and am happy lol

Bent dock + book status update: 2 days of leaving the book in the dock, and it seems pretty much 100 % straight now. Not sure if it will bend back, but at the moment it looks great. YMMV

I was fortunate enough to find a second Switch after returning another due to the wifi issue. Opened it up and whipped out my dock. Sure enough, it is bent. :|

Ordered one of the cables mentioned previously. Hopefully, it works without issue. I'd like to see Nintendo revise the dock, and offer a replacement, but that is unlikely.

Mentioned it earlier but really recommend against connecting it by a cable and just laying it flat. The Switch is in the ideal position in the dock to be cooled by convection when it's running at the higher clock speed.

If people aren't careful we could go from my Switch is getting scratched to my Switch has fried itself.

Yeah so wow.

Using the dock without a screen protector I hadn't gotten any scratches. Put a screen protector on and dock is scratching the left bezel (on the screen protector).

Shows how little room for variance there is on these docks and it is a major design flaw of Nintendo to use such cheap plastic the docks are bending being shipped.

Same here, but I think it's more representative of the softness of the screen protector in comparison to the screen, rather than the added thickness causing friction (as I have a good degree of wiggle room in-dock and it still got scratched).

Can u link me to this USB C extension cable? And am I correct that others are having good luck running the Switch to the tv screen without it being in the actual dock?

Thanks! My amFilm protector should be here soon, now I just need to find the best and fastest charger for charging WHILE I'm playing in handheld mode.

Looks like ACE 1991 has you covered. Be sure to choose the one labeled "CM-CF." I grabbed the 1 FT version and wish I had grabbed the 1.6.

This is a good point as well. I haven't followed the thread in a few days. Thank you for pointing this out. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. Might just run with a screen protector and some thin felt pads on the rails and hope for the best.

What's the difference? I don't think I got the "CM-CF" version.

EDIT: Per the heat thing, I haven't had any issues laying the switch down flat but with the intake fans at the bottom of the console left uncovered by whatever surface it's resting on. The system feels cooler to the touch than it did docked. I understand this isn't at all a precise measurement, though.

That may be a problem. I was confused myself when I first opened the link. Basically the link is for a listing for USB C cable of multiple varieties and colors. You can choose right from the item page. Unfortunately the default cable that is selected via that link is just a normal one, not the extension cable we need.

Ah, I see. Well the one I bought must actually be the "CM-CF" product you're describing because it works correctly as an extension cable for the switch dock (charges at normal rate and outputs a video signal through HDMI).

USB C Male to Female. The other versions (standard USB) won't work.

Heat rises and the design of the Switch seems to quite intentionally use convection cooling with the vents at the top, and this is needed most when it's in the dock where it's vertical. It won't be able to get rid of that hot air as effectively laying flat, and at the very least will be having to do more work.

I wouldn't feel comfortable using it like that long term, at the very least find a stand that brings it closer to vertical. It wasn't designed to be used this way.

I was following this thread super closely up until the last few days. My amFilm screen protector arrived and I recall earlier in the thread that some people were waiting 24 hour to play after application.

What's the verdict on this?

Thanks I'm in the same boat so will contact them

Been a few days with my protector (which seems different from the usual ones cause it doesn't have the curved edges) and adhesive appears fine. Played a few hours docked yesterday and no sign of the edge issues this morning.

I think it's just paranoia. I played immediately after installing mine for like 3 hours, no bubbles or other ill intended effects. This was 6 days ago.

Anyone got their dock RMA officially approved? Read the official statement by Reggie which didn't instill confidence in Nintendo taking this issue seriously.

Awesome thanks for the response. I'm kinda paranoid too, but I don't know if that overwrites my desire to keep playing Zelda.

Yep. I don't even dock mine. I have it on the Hori stand with the AC adapter connected and just play in tabletop mode. Hori stand was a must have purchase.

Does the stand fold perfectly flat when not in use?

I've still been meaning to try my Icarus 3ds stand,I hear that works.

My amfilm arrives today BUT I just noticed a scratch just on the border of the screen / bezel - so close to impacting gameplay. Dock is only possible culprit. So annoying.

Thread title is still alarmist and annoying. Can we change to "MAY scratch the screen"? I still have zero scratches and I plop that thing in daily. Inevitably? How far are yall magically seeing into my future? Years?

I thought I was you, until I wasn't.

As far as I can tell, the screen isn't glass, but plastic. So, yeah, it will inevitably scratch from just about anything. Including being in a carrying case.

Spend the 7 bucks, buy a screen protector, and dock/un-dock that thing ALL DAY ERRY DAY.

Does anyone with scratches have experience with adding a screen protector after the fact and having that make the scratches essentially invisible?

HOLD ON!! I've been really careful with my switch whilst waiting for my tempered glass. No way am I gonna scratch that beauty! However! Today I noticed some scratches where the BACK of the switch docks, i.e. The exact opposite to where people see them on the front bezel. So I assume the back is hitting that bit that sticks out in the dock! wtf! Anyone else had this, can you guys take a look at yours. :(

Other people have also reported scratches on the back of the system.

I've been docking and undocking my Switch a lot more recently as handheld mode is growing on me, and I still don't have any scratches. I might apply a screen protector soon just to be safe, but I think I got lucky with my dock.

The physical laws of the universe dictate that for every person that gets scratches on the front of their switch, there is an equal and opposite rear scratch somewhere in the world. This must occur to keep balance.

I sent in my Switch and dock today, and the support rep said I should have everything back by/around Monday. We'll see if they actually replace/fix everything instead of just sending it back.

I got the dock approved a week ago but they said I only had to send in the dock not the switch. Why did you send the actual switch in?

Mine is also scratched on the back in the exact spot where the rails are. Looks to be about 15 scratches like someone (me) was knifing the shit out of it. No big deal since it's the back but yeah this is a thing. I love the Switch but Nintendo needs to release a new Metroid game, a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD port, and a fully loaded PilotwingS to make up for this nonsense.

I have a small bubble in the edge of my am glass protector. It isn't major and isn't growing. Not going to write them for s refund it's perfectly fine besides the small bubble.

Because the only reason I'm sending in anything is because I have those scratches and want it fixed. You can fix a dock easily yourself (at possibly no cost) and a new dock still has the possibility of scratching unless you fix those areas that may cause scratches.

Oh that makes sense. Luckily I didn't scratch my screen.
