Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Put strips of tape on the edge, peel it away and then use a piece of tape to pull the dust off the back of the protector/screen. Repeat until perfect.

I tried that for around 5 minutes straight after, the protector wouldn't come off! But maybe it's because I only used one strip. I thought I'd just make it worse if I tried and more dust might have gone in so stopped trying. But you're making me want to try again.

Damn this thread!!

Going to try a extension cable with my Hori play stand. Maybe I can somehow use small fans I have laying around to facilitate cooling.

Don't forget there are no fans in the dock itself, so you may not have to worry about extra cooling fans or whatever. Not sure if the hori stand covers up any vents or anything.

Hori stand + cable will also be my setup once I get The Switch.

Here is my upload of the Hori protector attempt I spent far too long doing:

eq155U3l.png

You can see the two dust specs on the left that got inside, after checking so many times before sliding the cover off the protector! you can see a faint line down the middle, which is where the Hori protector splits in two halves (harder to see in the image actually). The circle on the bottom right is a light reflection. Way better than my first failed attempt with the one which came with the official case anyway.

I'm always paranoid about dust when I put a screen protector on.

Running a hot shower for a couple minutes to get a bunch of steam in your bathroom will take down any dust. Then you just go in there and put it on. Works like a charm.

Not sure but I'd wager some people with scratches are being too rough with docking/undocking it.

I think it was in crowbcat's video but I saw someone grab the Switch by the corner and lift it out sideways/diagonally from the dock. No possible way that's good for it. I always place the console flush into the dock and pull it flush out of the dock.

I put my tempered glass protector on today from AnFilm or w/e. I didn't do it perfectly, there are some air bubbles in top right corner and in the top center part of the protector. None on the actual gameplay part of the screen. I can deal with it, I spent about 20minutes trying to get those 2 spots out but never could. I think I put the protector on up too far, it should have been a bit down. No pics sorry.

That's a shame, I thought tempered glass protectors were bubble free...

I'll try to be EXTRA careful once mine arrives.

so, what are the chances everyone with scratched bezels are getting scratches because something is falling into their dock that scratches the screen and its not the plastic dock nubs, themselves

High.

Though it could also be that there's a manufacturing defect, and some people got docks with harder plastic than intended.

In any case, I clumsily shoved mine into the dock the first few times I used it, and I have no scratches. (I'm careful now, just in case ... still no scratches.)

Can someone link to the instructional/guide video that showed how to apply screen protectors properly to avoid lint/bubbles/misalignment etc? (It might have been specific to the amFilm protector). I could have sworn I saw a video like that linked in here, but this thread is a giant monster now and I can't seem to find it.

Maybe it's not a bubble and moreso the adhesive isn't sticking. Like I said, I think I have the protector a bit too far up. If I could slide it down just a hair I think things would be cool.

Yeah I did this in the bathroom with a hot shower running, was in there for nearly 30 minutes with this damn thing haha. Definitely reduced dust as hardly any was falling on the screen, but sneaked in right when I placed the protector down, typical. But I did keep lifting it up slightly to wipe underneath, maybe shouldn't have done it as much.

I know right :(

Is nobody worried about when it comes to the time to remove the tempered glass protectors from an easy to scratch plastic screen?

I mean, I have removed them from gorilla glass smart phones, but this will be completely different.

I've already tossed my keys and a lighter across my switch screen. I'ts not as easy to scratch as this thread makes it appear.

Dock Cozies are completely about to become a thing now aren't They? How funny would it be if this were the thing to catapult the Switch into mainstream meme appeal like all the viral "Wiimote through TV screen" gifs.

Plus they have a cute name to help endear them: dock socks.

I don't think that would be possible

No. I was always SUPER careful when I docked/undocked it, and still got scratches.

I assumed it wouldn't happen because I thought other people were being too rough, and it still happened to me.

For those worried about getting dust under the glass screen protector, I've put them on devices directly under my vent hood above my cooktop with great results. Turn it on high and it keeps most dust from falling down on the screen. You could even get a box or something to raise it up closer where the suction would be stronger.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but there isn't a single scratch on my Switch, even the screen protector. I would have expected something to show up now that the screen has some added thickness, but I'm golden.

Here's what I'm wondering--is anyone seeing scratches pop up on the back of their system?

It's weird seeing people in this thread still trying to put the blame on user error and not poor manufacturing on Nintendo's part. I haven't scratched my screen yet because I'm too paronoid to dock it frequently until my screen protector comes in, but there is a major problem with my dock.

The problem with my dock is that, like many in here, the top of the slot entrance is slightly bent inwards. So much so that the switch is as thick as the width of the top of the slot (including the tabs). This guarantees that my screen rubs against the plastic tabs every time I dock/undock my switch, because there's no soft rubber at the top of the slot like there is near the bottom.

Just got and installed my amfilm protector. Got lucky that I heard about this early so I just left my Switch docked since last Saturday and only pulled it out about 3 times. No scratches. Gonna let eh protector sit for a few hours, maybe over night.

The reason they don't put rubber (or felt) on the rails is that that stuff is way more sticky and holds particles that will scratch worse than bare plastic.

My theory is that when they were testing the dock they didn't account for the dock deforming during shipping/storage up to launch.

Has anyone had real success in permanently bending their docks back to a neutral position? I've seen the books and cartridges wedged in but I haven't seen any follow up posts.

I want to try to bend mine back if it's possible. The top of my dock is very tight on the switch (it will suspend itself in the dock unless i push it down). Glass screen protectors are sold out everywhere or on backorder and I want to keep using it as intended. I have very small hairline scratches in the bezel from about 5 or 6 docks/undocks. They're barely visible unless you're looking for them but I don't want it to get worse. I insert and pull it out like a jenga block every time. I was careful even the first time when I realized how tight it was.

maybe im just lucky but i have the switch for about a week now. And used it in and out the docking station for more than 20 times i think.
And so far no scratches and i havent use a any screen protector yet...

Damn, that's a nice and straight looking dock. Maybe I can do an exchange at Walmart, if they get stock during the returns period.

My dock is finally straight but I've been stretching it out for 3 days while occasionally heating it. Still I ordered a glass protector and a dock sock

Yeah your dock looks straight. I think the bent docks are scratching the Switch when we pull it out

Well I got both the Switch and Protector today so it didn't have much time to get anything on it, I turned off my fans in my room and gave it a good wipe with the included wet/dry wipes and just knocked it out quick before anything could get on it :)

I figured if I messed up I would try the shower thing with the second one but it came out perfect on the first so I got a backup if I ever need it. (since it comes with 2)

Was able to get it on. No bubbles but there is a fine piece of lint that can be seen if you look extremely close with the screen off at a certain angle. Won't be an issue in normal use though and overall I'm happy.

Do we need to let this sit without playing it either in handheld or docked mode?

I wasn't getting any scratches as of yet as I've been putting the Switch very carefully into my dock when I do but it still was worrying, especially when you can feel plastic of the dock rub against the plastic of the screen.

I ended up finding some adhesive pads lying around the house. The first one I tried was way too thick and I couldn't slide the Switch in. I then put on these small green circular pads which are a lot thinner and it seems to have done the trick quite well! It's not pretty but at least it's a solution for now. Had a hard time getting them straight given how tight the space to work with was though.

Your dock is looking mighty fine and straight. Also is your cam color off? That looks like cyan/teal colored left joypad and it looks awesome.

Not a super great first attempt installing the tempered glass. Slightly off center and I trapped a few dust particles even after carefully following instructions. But it will do for now. Bezel and screen is protected from the dreaded dock and now I won't fear docking/undocking this for portable play.

The amFilm glass is a tiny tiny bit smaller than the entire area so it's not a perfect fit.

Install screen protectors in the bathroom after taking a hot shower. After the steam from the hot shower has settled the bathroom will be dust-free for a while.

Lol, some of these stories sound like a nightmare I wish on no one. Thankfully I haven't experienced any problems with bent docks, scratched bezels, or misaligned/dust laden screen protectors.

I put the official Nintendo screen protector on and did have specks of dust behind it, but using the included dust removal tape fixed that issue for me.

This is a super dumb, paranoid question, but for those using the amFilm protector, did you use the alcohol wipe it comes with before applying? Was it ok to use on the Switch screen?

Got my glass screen protector in. Fits perfectly and looks great. Switch now fits a little snug into the dock which is surprising since the protector didn't seem that thick

Any UK folk got their ORZLY tempered glass protector yet?? Still waiting here... Ordered Jan 20th.

Nope, I had a dispatch email the other day with an estimated delivery of the 14th, but I doubt it has been sent to be honest. I don't know any courier that takes a week to deliver. Probably just locking in all those Amazon orders.

I did use it. As far as I can tell, there have been no ill effects. Protector has been on for around 30 hours now and everything looks crystal clear.

I did exactly that, no visible dust on screen at all, until the "set 'er down" part and a couple of troll dust particles decided to jump inside that very second out of nowhere :p was SO careful. I think I shouldn't have kept wiping the screen under with the microfibre cloth before finally removing the peel (only lifted it up a tiny amount though).

I couldn't remove the protector after though, even with tape :/ so I decided to leave it in the end. It's going to bug me every time I have it undocked now though.

Never use screen protectors though, been very careful with things like my Vita and its fine, but then again that's glass.

I'm the same way. I wasn't planning on a screen protector for Switch til all this came up. Now that it's on, it's such a relief to be able to use the thing as envisioned, being able to just sort of pick it up and toss it wherever when I'm done, knowing it's going to be okay.

I also got a small dust particle, but thankfully it's towards the top of the system, on the bezel. Considering just how badly things could have gone wrong, one tiny speck off-screen is something I can live with. Where's yours?

I measured my dock scientifically ... by using the female USB-A end of an Apple USB-C adapter. It fits easily at the bottom, but gets tighter at the top. So my dock is bent.

Used an old thick Kindle in its case to widen the dock overnight so now it's almost perfectly parallel.

No scratches, but keeping the microfiber+rubberband combo on the front for now until I get the screen protector from amfilm and the cityslicker Switch case from Waterfield later this month. Just won't take it with me on the road until I have the screen guard+case.

Prefer playing Zelda with the pro controller anyway. Just a shame the framerate when docked is so rough in the later stages of the game ... the forests get super choppy, and the bugs with some enemies near
Akkala tower, where fighting the Bokoblins drops the framerate down to single digits ... it literally became a slideshow with glitches.
