Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

I did install it upside down. And flipped I guess.


I had it so the side that was supposed to stick on the screen, was facing up, so I had it as the side that you touch. Which should have been fool proof, but I didn't realize that cut outs werent matching. (thinking now I originally put it on right, but the tabs and everything confused me so I flipped it before really applying it. I made it a debacle.

I'm confident in a second attempt I could apply it flawlessly.


Now I just have this cause it was dirty as hell:

I don't understand this part either, but some how it stuck on damn good that way. I'm sure it would have come off completely, as you can see it was bubbled as hell so it really wasn't sticking, but it was hard to pull off.
 
So tempered glass do have adhesive too ? I thought I read somewhere that contrary to thiner, plastic protectors, they could be removed and reapplied because they basically don't have adhesive and stick somehow another way ? If they have adhesive, how the fuck could you remove them to reapply them, let alone clean the adhesive side with dust that would surely stick to it ?
 
I got a shipping notifcation for the amcrest tempered glass protector, is it true once it's on you can't get it off over time? Never dealt with this before, just the normal ones.

Not sure how a screen protector could adhere to a screen without any sort of adhesive...

I've typically used Spigen and InvisibleShield tempered glass screen protectors in the past on my iPhones. The last two iPhone upgrades I removed my screen protector before turning it into Apple and the screens were still silky smooth after having a tempered glass screen protector sit on it for a year. No noticeable residue of any kind.

No. They have adhesive. If you removed it, the adhesive gets all jacked up and all kinds of dust gets on it.

Adhesive likely didn't come off the screen protector despite being cleaned. I'd put money down that if the person in the video used paint thinner on the screen protector instead of rubbing alcohol then it wouldn't stick back on. The only other way it could "stick" would be if it used static electricity but that would not be anywhere near strong enough to keep it on effectively.
 
The Subsonic tempered glass I got applied has a few dust particles underneath, which triggers my OCD something fierce, that's why I looked for a way to remove, clean it somehow and reapply it. But yeah, screw that, seems too sketchy anyway.
I'll just wait for amFilm to be available to buy in France and get that.

Yeah, especially with the console docked and the heat it generates which would detach the glass after a while for sure.

where you can coat one with lightly soapy water and get a screen protector to cling? I've heard of people using simple plastic folder sheets and accomplishing the same thing

Back in the very old 2009 days of screen protecting that's even how the Zagg InvisibleShield protectors used to ship, with a little spray of soapy water to apply on the screen before the protector.
 
I applied my amFilm without any "shower trick". Just clean the screen, look for any lingering dust or particles - and once completely clean, apply the amFilm protector.

I had one bubble, but was able to push it out after a couple minutes.
 
So I definitely have a bent dock, right? I tried putting my Switch in the dock and it felt WAY too tight. I did the penny test and was only able to get the penny up halfway before I had to use force. I checked the dock on the Switch I bought for my little brother and it's much worse than mine.

My spigen tempered glass comes off clean... I removed it once and re-applied the glass because it was slightly misaligned as I couldn't properly swipe from the left side of the screen.

I fucked up my PSP 3000 with one of those screen protectors way back when. Water got in the housing and a few of the face buttons stopped working. Thankfully I had bought it a day prior so I just brought it in for replacement.

Yup the adhesive typically stays on the screen protector so you can take it off and put it on multiple times. Just have to be careful to not accidentally touch the adhesive with your fingers or you could potentially have your oils stick to it.

So there is room for error and readjustment. But once there is tons of dust and lil fibers in the adhesive, you can't clean it. If you can then... mines already in the trash so doesn't matter.


I'm so fucking mad that I fucked it up. Can't decide if I will order more, or just stop carrying about this shit and accept any scratches that may come.

Does the amFilm one attract dust particles with static cling? The last one I tried was a simple plastic kind and it drove me insane how it would suck in particles. I have the amFilm here, but I'm scared to mess with it after reading some of this

I had a couple specs of dust on the screen and the protector, I used one of those little stickers it came with and it pulled them off.
 
So I just tried : removed the Subsonic glass protector gently after making sure I put two little pieces of tape to act as a guide for the hinge method. I cleaned the Switch screen and took a piece of tape to gently tap the adhesive on the protector to try and remove the dust that was on it, which worked great. So it's super clean now, only problem is when applying back on I have one corner that doesn't stick anymore. Shame because I was able to turn the situation around, but I'm pretty sure that would have worked better with a better quality glass, like amFilm or the likes.

The Subsonic one feels pretty cheap for a glass, and I even wonder if it's actual, real glass because I know there are fake ones out there. It lacks a few good millimeters on each sides which makes it not align with the screen nor the sensors. It's not huge, but definitely noticeable.
 
I wonder if I post about an amazing new screen protector then put 5 fake amazon reviews on it saying its amazing - how many people would just instantly buy it out of hysteria?
 
My amFilm tempered glass cover came in earlier than expected, read the instructions, followed the steps but I fucked up royally. And on both tries. The first time, right after cleaning the screen a spec of dust got on the screen protector itself as I was putting it on.

Second time, I misaligned it and took it off and when I put it back on a dog hair managed to sneak in. Very frustrating for me but to be fair had I done it correctly the second time everything would have been perfect. amFilm screen protector still the way to go imo and I ordered another pair from Amazon. Fucking upset tho because I still can't dock my Switch. I haven't reverted to modifying the dock so it's portable mode until this screen protector comes in.

Tempered glass are way better than plastic screen protectors for two reasons
1) they're much harder to scratch - in the case of the switch the dock literally shouldn't be able to scratch a glass screen.

2) they're much simpler to put on - they pretty much remove the bubbles themselves.
 
Has anyone tried the Switch4U screen protectors? They're made of SAPPHIRE apparently?

Also - there is a woman selling SwitchSox at the local market. It's like a sock you put on the front of the case to protect from the 100% change of scratching the screen when docking the unit?

Same. Mine said dispatched very quickly and is now saying estimated march 13th

Bit too long for comfort - time for the screen to get dusty/dirty.
 
Just applied my amFilm screen protector, it went perfect. Few bubbles but easily smoothed out to leave a flawless finish. This is def a quality item, highly recommend it. Leaving the adhesive to settle for 24hrs before i power it on. I used the steam in the shower and hinge method.
 
I like the feel of the amfilm glass one. It's nice and smooth and makes me want to touch my switch screen like the edge of a Wii U disc.
 
just an update from my amFilm install, played 17 hours of Zelda so far docked and still looks perfect with no bubbles or anything funky.

I did let it sit for about 6 hours after installing it before I got to playing, not sure if that myth is real or not but figured I could wait a bit lol.

Essentially, the OP there is saying some switch docks are missing the rubber foot at the bottom and that lip would be a prime area to cause a scratch.

Sorry for quoting this older post but has there been some kind of conclusion to this "two types of dock" theory? The reddit thread has seemingly devolved into people asking for pictures while others who claim to have seen the difference at a friends place disappear without providing said pictures. Can anyone here shed some light perhaps?

I'm still not sure what I should be looking for in terms of the rubber padding, but I have succesfully (save for a few dust particles...) applied my first screen protector - the one that came with the official case - on any device ever recently just to be sure.
 
So has there been an consensus that the docks are bent/warped if they leave marks? my dock left two wide scratches (look like smudges) on my screen protector but the dock does not look uneven or warped to me

What do you use to make the hinges? Did they come with the screens or can you make it yourself if you buy a different screen protector?

Those shouldn't be scratches but just hard to clean smudges from the rubber in the dock. Get some lens wipes and they come off.

It's by no means 100% chance of scratching the screen. There's many, many Switch owners who have had no scratching or any issues with docking and undocking the Switch.

They should really change the title from "will inevitably" to "may".
 
I cleaned mine and applied the amfilm tempered glass. No showers, soap, witchcraft, etc. Applied perfectly and looks gorgeous.

Order the amfilm and wait for it, it's worth it.
 
Got my amfilm protector today and put it on without issue. No dust but did have some possible smudges that I feared were under it. I wiped and rubbed them alot and thet went away after a few minutes. I think I was too agresseive trying to get bubbles out and the protective film smudged it. It looks great now though so no complaints.

Ive only had my switch for 4 days and only put it in/out of the doc maybe 10 times. I didnt notice any scratches in that time but when putting the screen protector on and cleaning it I noticed some really fine micro scratchs on the bottom bezel area of the screen. Glad I bought the protector just incase it got worse.

I will report back in after putting some playtime into it tonight.
 
So does the amfilm screen mess up with the touch screen at all? I know people use it in phones but just asking anyway...
