Sold mine, posted it by curiosity for offers on Kijiji and a guy offered me 540$CAD for it, I simply couldn't refuse...it cost me 460$ total when I bought it. The thirst is fucking real. D:

I think this is the first post I've seen of someone actually receiving one of those orzly screen protectors.
Ugh. Got the screen protector, the tempered glass one from amFilm. Never done one of these before, but I did everything suggested, including doing it in a steamy bathroom, and... there are giant, unsightly bubbles that I can't seem to get rid of. This is... not cool. I'm going to keep trying for a bit, but since I didn't have the scratches yet anyway, I may just take it off entirely and see if I can get a refund for this. But yeah, not happy right now about this...

Got an SNES cart and 24 hours to spare? I did that with my dock and now it isn't tight anymore.So I definitely have a bent dock, right? I tried putting my Switch in the dock and it felt WAY too tight. I did the penny test and was only able to get the penny up halfway before I had to use force. I checked the dock on the Switch I bought for my little brother and it's much worse than mine.
Will Nintendo replace both for free?

Well I screwed up both of my amFilm attempts. Not surprising as I have terrible luck with these things.
First time there was a tiny bubble which would not go away. Must have been a tiny spec of dust. Second time there was a visible piece of dust. Both times I tried lifting the corner of the protector so I could get at the dust with the sticker, but this is easier said than done. Botched it both times.
Both of these issues were relatively minor and a normal person probably would have just let it go, but for me once I see it, it can't be unseen. Almost had a heart attack as there looked to be tons of scratches all over the screen when I removed it the second time, but it eventually came out when I rubbed it thoroughly with alcohol. Must have just been the adhesive.
Anyway, that's enough adventure for one day for me. $10 and an hour of my time down the drain I guess. Just gonna take my chances with the dock I suppose.

Finally got it more or less with my second screen protector. Tried and had to readjust a good number of times with the first one, and eventually it was a clear lost cause. Fortunately the first time on the second screen worked after some serious effort getting the bubbles out, probably because I was incredibly careful and made 100% sure I eliminated every possible spec of dust and got up close to observe and made sure to get it down perfectly on the first try.
It mentions a 30-day money back guarantee on the back of the box. Which won't get you back your time, but should get you back your money.

Just did the same but put it on in my bathroom after I took a shower (all the heat settles the dust). Works flawlessly and looks nice. Also been stretching out my dock with a book while I'm not docked. I think I'm good to go--only concern I have is that this protector might peel over time.
Used to have to apply screen protectors to a whole fleet of iPhones at my last job when we did a handset refresh (every year and a half basically)
It was never more than 30 handsets but Sales people do not accept bubbles under the protector on a brand new phone, so got to be a bit of an expert on reapplying
The cheaper the protector the harder it can be not to damage it during realignment or refitting after removing dust - the official Nintendo one is fairly decent compared to some of the cheap shit iPhone ones I used to have to use
The stickers they supplied are decent enough to help. Use one sticker on the top to lift it without damaging it then another under it
I used to go through a lot of sellotape to be happy with the result due to OCD - small loops, sticky on the outside that you put a finger through
Use one to lift the screen and others to "dab" at the screen (or reverse of the screen protector) where any dust managed to get in..
And once you have dabbed once or twice throw away the sellotape and make another loop, never press too hard else you can leave sticky residue from the sellotape behind

Agreed, can't seem to get the amfilm one in Canada.
Got my amFilm protector today and installed it. Went on flawlessly; however, I noticed that my Switch screen already had micro-abrasions likely from a brand new microfiber cloth I was using to wipe the screen down before installing it. I've used the same type of microfiber cloths for all my screen protector installs and NEVER had it scratch a single screen before (granted the majority of screens I've installed on before were glass). The Switch was also fresh straight out of the plastic bag it was enclosed in so it didn't have time to gather particles from the surroundings.
So forewarning - the plastic screen on the Switch is VERY easy to scratch, even if its just micro-abrasions that you can barely see.

Does the Orzly come with alcohol wipes or anything?
Yes. It comes with 2x protectors. 1x alcohol wipe. 1x microfibre cloth. 1x small card for pushing out bubbles. 2x dust stickers.
This is probably a better approach as the cloth included in the pack doesn't capture dust but rather just swipes it away. As I said, never had issues before using my microfiber cloth, but those were glass screens (some cheap glass screens), This just shows how cheap the plastic on the Switch screen is.
I'm just astonished how easy the plastic screen does scratch; people who don't use a screen protector are going to have scratches all over their screen in a short period of time. Anyone who will wipe down the screens with their shirts on the go are going to be in for a rude surprise.
Mine got scratched.. Thankfully I put the amFilm glass screen protector before ever putting it into the dock, so the scratches are on the screen protector and not on the console.
Nintendo messed up bad on these docks. Who know how? Especially since this is the whole feature of the Switch.

That's pretty crazy. I thought glass wasn't supposed to scratch to plastic? During the brief time I had my amFilm on, I did put it in the dock and noticed it was a fairly tight fit, despite it not adding much extra thickness. Definitely felt like the screen was touching up against the plastic as it slid in/out. I do have a slight bend in my dock, even though it's not as apparent as some of the pictures I've seen here. They really just need to do make a revamped dock without the front. This is really dumb.

Bought the Amware glass protectors too and had a nightmare time with it. Did the steam, wiped the hell of it and had a giant bubble right in the middle that wouldn't come out. Lifted it up to get the bubble out and then the spot where I lifted it looked like shit so I put the second one on. TWO giant bubbles this time. Lifted up the screen protector and got them out but there is a tiny bubble near where I lifted it that won't go away. I'll just accept it. Really don't want to do it again and it's not super noticeable.
FWIW the Squaretrade policy is like 50% more expensive than BB but covers a third year. I didn't sturdy how they cover wear and tear vs accidental damage though.
Got the amFilm screen protector and I'm disappointed to say that the glass is actually thick enough to make sliding it in and out of the dock difficult. Specifically taking it out of the dock. You have to hold the dock down otherwise the switch won't side out. This is not ok and I think I'm going to take advantage of their warranty.

Bent dock? Shouldn't really do that. Do you have any stuff taped to the plastic of the dock? Like cloth, or soft velcro?
The fact the a screen protector is enough to make the Switch harder to dock tells you that they design is stuffed. Terrible.
My dock looks straight to me and I didn't do any mods to it. It actually seems to be getting stuck where those rubber bits at the bottom are so it definitely is not a bent dock issue as that would be an issue at the top of the dock. I have to give it a bit of a push to get in there, nothing hard but it doesn't just slide in like it would wothout the glass on it. And as I said when I try to take it out the entire dock comes with it. I have to hold the dock down while I pull the switch up.
Maybe I just got a bad piece of glass that was too thick? I'm going to see if they'll ship me a replacement otherwise I'm just gonna get a refund.

That sounds like a problem with your dock, not the protector. I know multiple people (myself included) successfully using the Amfilm without any dock problems.
I suppose there's a chance your glass is too thick, but weird I haven't heard of others having this problem.
I imagine anyone who has those little smudges on the bottom of the screen from those rubber pads at the bottom of the dock will also have the same issue as me with any glass screen protector. Obviously if you're getting a smudge that means you screen is touching the rubber. Adding any more thickness is only going to make it a tighter squeeze. This should have been obvious from the start and I don't know why I'm just realizing it now.
We need dock 2.0. Dock 1.0 hasn't scratched my screen yet but the fact that this is an issue af all for anyone is not good.

I was experimenting this evening and docked my Switch and brought a flashlight to it and the spacing between the screen and the plastic wall is so miniscule. How are some of you putting moleskin in there?
The protector I got off eBay came today, Fintie or something. I got it for $8.50 or so but they jacked up the price to $15 last I checked. Seems to be about a mm or less smaller than the screen surface, kind of a pain but looks like I got it pretty close to centered. Interesting thing is I had a small bubble (that I just left alone cause it was near my hinge side when applying and wasn't really visible with the screen on)...but it went away after a while, so that was nice.
Came with two protectors like all the others, but only one set of application things so to speak, the wet/dry wipe pack, cloth, sticky pieces. Not sure that's the same as the others. It did all come in a hard plastic shell so that was nice, I just have the extra one in there now and probably shouldn't have to worry about breaking it.
I will say the wet wipe was a pain though, it dried quick and left visible residue and the dry wipe didn't clean it up. Took a bunch of hard wiping with the microfiber...or mostly my shirt actually. In the end looked fine but it looked fine before that.
I'd just skip the wet wipe if I had to do it again. Besides being a possible pain in the ass, there's a chance it's not meant for plastic screens to begin with, like alcohol and some cleaners can damage some plastics (and the cheap paper/cloth could scratch for all I know). Shouldn't be a big deal with the short exposure but if the screen is already clean...just leave it clean.

Can anyone describe a quick cost/benefit analysis comparison between the extended coverage options at Best Buy, Gamestop, SquareTrade (Costco)?
It seems to me this is actually going to be a bigger than usual factor in deciding where to buy the Switch for future purchases. I'm thinking of selling my unopened Gamestop Switch, and/or taking back my Best Buy Switch and just waiting until I can get one at Costco due to their far superior normal return/refund policy. I'll keep all the games/accessories I've purchased, but hate the idea of having to deal with Best Buy or especially Gamestop if my Switch(es) have any of the myriad QC problems.

Damn, usually those screen protectors can take knives and car keys and still resist a scratch. This seems more like a design "flaw". As in, to completely prevent the screen getting damaged the base unit might need a redesign.
I take it they're using gorilla glass or some similar brand?
Launch hardware issues. Happens all the time with devices that have screens. I've had terrible luck with mobile phones all my life when I jump in early. My OCD notices every minor flaw and blemish though, which doesn't help.
I remember with the Nexus 4 a newer batch introduced small rubber feet on the back of the phone to stop it sliding and getting surface scratches on its glass back piece.

Nah, I got those smudges from the rubber pads and my Amfilm didn't make it any harder to put in/out of the dock.

Kind of weird that Reggie seemed thrown off by this when asked. He seemed like he was aware of the joycon sync issue but he genuinely seemed confused about the screen scratching.
If I recall correctly, the plastic on the Switch does not work well with adhesive skins.

Played about an hour of shovel knight and forgot I even had the thing on. It looks completly seemless and the edges are super smooth. Most tempered glass screens I have seen in the past have a sharp edge so I am really pleased. I have never used a screen protector and have never damaged a screen but it really seems like a must have with how often the system will go in and out of the dock.

So when installing the tempered glass protector on the Switch (Amfilm brand) is it recommended to not use the device for awhile? I don't have mine yet but need to schedule a time to not play it if so.
I would recommend at least not docking it for a while to let it settle correctly.
