Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

I would leave it. The screen will go back on and seal again if you take it off, but its it gets less and less every time you peal it off.

The problem is removing it and not getting even more stuff in it, Cause if you peal it off and get the thing you were going for fixed, but 3 more fibers get in there... welp.. The problem is its not stuck on the screen anymore, its in the adhesive. Could try lifting it off, and using tape to get it, but like I said run the risk of even more dust and fibers.
 
Not a scratch issue but anything but a glass protector seems to get bad bubbles when charging. Applied my cheap Hori flawlessly and after it being charged with the USB-C cable, bubbles have formed in the the middle of the screen.

I wouldn't if I were you. I messed up both times I tried to apply the amfilm and have to wait until next week to get my second order because it was sold out. I fucked up apply it both times. First time a speck of dust got in and it had to between the time I cleaned the screen and the time I applied the protector.

Second time I applied it perfectly but there was this small hair that got stuck and I tried to take it off and fucked it up even more.

Mine 'dispatched' 20th Feb. Getting frustrated waiting a frankly ridiculous amount of time for delivery. Until it hits 14-16th (my eta) I can't file a complaint though.

My guess is they haven't shipped them yet. Had an Amazon UK email (19th Feb) saying my order will be cancelled as it'd been so long since making my order (20th Jan). Then the next day I get a 'dispatch' email (20th Feb). I think they're marking them as dispatched to prevent auto cancelling of orders from Amazon.

Nope, try again. I've used portable devices like this since before the Game Boy and I don't use screen protectors. Never had a scratch. I have 3 3DS systems (OG, XL and n3ds XL), all used extensively and no scratches on them either. Vita and PSP too.

Nope again. I don't "baby" any of my stuff. Not even the Switch. As I said before, I just slide it in and out normally, and it's fine.

No screen protector yet and no scratches on mine despite regular use, taking it to several friends' houses, use in Nintendo's special edition case, etc.

Dock looks identical to others' "bent" docks.
 
I bought the topace screen protector instead of amfilm since it was the only one on Amazon that had prime shipping at the time. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be the same as amfilm. The whole thing is smaller than what I've seen of pictures of the amfilm ones, leaving a larger gap on the edge of the screen. There is also no cutout for the sensor on the bottom. Of course I went and cracked it while trying to carefully lift it up and realign it. Never had this happen with a glass screen protector before. Lesson learned to only buy 2 packs.

How long does amfilm usually take to ship? Wondering if it's worth trying one of the various other options on Amazon with prime shipping or just get amfilm. I just want to be able to safely dock my switch as soon as possible.
 
The plastic dock scratching a glass protector makes no sense. It simply shouldn't be able to.

Any screen protector being too thick to fit in the dock also sounds wrong. These are usually 0.5mm or less in thickness. You would have had an incredibly tight dock already for such a tiny increase to make any noticeable difference
 
Ended up going with Skinomi wet apply screen protector. I applied it in my bathroom with a steamy shower going. The application came out really good except one speck in the upper right corner. I am going to leave it. I also went to Best Buy and added the 2 year protection plan. My plan is to bring it in the moment they do a redesign on either the dock or Joy-Con.
 
After being paranoid about this whole thing, I finally came around and used the dock for the first time. After several docking sessions, I can report I have had absolutely no scratches. Only thing I've noticed is some type smudge at the bottom corners of the screen (the black part), but it is easily comes off when I wipe it with my microfiber cloth. I'm using a screen protector.

BTW, what's going on with Gaf? It says the connection to this site is not secure. Anybody else's saying the same thing when they come on here?
 
So nice to be able to fully enjoy the Switch. Console is great. I can carelessly dock/undock and just enjoy the damn thing with peace of mind. I don't care if I get scratches on the protector, but so far it hasn't happened yet anyway.

Let it be if it's only one thing. I have the tiniest piece of dust under mine right in the center of the screen. You can barely see it, and it doesn't show up when playing. It's not worth risking making things worse just to fix it, lol.

I wouldn't lift it. Chances are high that you will make it worse. The second I lifted mine it seemed to attract a dozen more particles like a magnet.

I would suggest emailing the company directly. I messed up both of my applications and they offered to send me another kit for free.
 
Not actually played my Switch since I put the Hori protector on. Few pages back you may have read that I tried really hard to remove one side of the protector to remove two bits of dust that got trapped (did the bathroom procedure too) but wasn't coming off, decided to leave it. Anyway, no scratches yet. Shame the Hori protector didn't come with any tape that helps remove it or grab trapped dust (was going to use sellotape instead).
 
Yeah, launch night Switch with no protection with 2-3 dockings per day and no scratches. Docking has been my primary method of charging, I rarely play on the big screen. I've actually just decided to put the amFilm kit I bought away and decided to save it. Maybe my lifestyle will change and I will want to use it but so far, mostly used at home with a few travel days and everything has been fine. My dock is not bent, and I just use two hands and just go slow.

I had no issues, but even still, i put mine on. It comes with two screens and looks great. You already have it, I don't see why you wouldn't just slide one on.
 
Sad to say, but I had the whole bent dock thing, and it's scratched both bezels the bezels and the back of my Switch. A lot of weird smudging too. This kind of stuff drives me crazy so I'm going to return it for now, and hopefully Nintendo will get its shit together on this front for the time Splatoon 2 comes out.

I've never been a screenprotector guy, but is the amFilm screen protector you guys are talking about above generally the one to go for? How easy is it to put on?

edit: also just wanted to say I'm super bummed about this because everything else about the console I absolutely love. honestly it's one of my favorite devices around, I'm still so impressed playing zelda realizing this is all done on mobile hardware.
 
Can a USB-C male to female cable brick the Switch? I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I order one as I have read bad things about using 3rd party cables in the past.

If folks looking for a quick elegant solution put some Heavy duty cloth surgical tape right on those plastic rail things all the way down and the switch glides in nice and I feel they provide enough padding to protect from scrapes. Best thing is the don't add to the opening to make it harder to insert and you can put it on both sides. I just had some lying around and found they cover the whole rail perfectly and because the rails are raised the tape wont catch over time smearing sticky crap.

It's on the left side of the logo. It's not a huge deal. But it absolutely blows that the dock causes scratches never the less...

That part of the back doesn't even come into contact with the docks rails does it? How did the dock do it?

I fail to see how the dock can do this.
 
I applied the screen protector that came with the official carrying case before I heard about any of these problems. My console is in and out of the dock probably 10 times a day and looks fine so far. The screen protector is staying on the system fine and no problems with bubbles or anything. I mostly forget it's even there.

This is spiraling into new levels of 'dog ate my homework'. It looks more like your mate ripped it out of whatever case you're using and the zip tore the back up so now he's panicked and screamed "DOCK!"

If you have that scratch and it was made by the dock, it can only be due to extremely poor handling because even a bent dock doesn't scratch the switch like that since the problem is on the sides.

Things get scratches with use, that doesn't mean every scratch people will get are due to dock defects.
 
Day 10 with my Switch. Threw the Hori (regular) protector on right from the start and have yet to find any evidence of scratching on the back or the front. My Switch is docked/undocked at least twice a day.

Well... that's interesting wording there. There's definitely no reason that they "couldn't" make the dock more open. Many users have proven that it would be extremely easy to do so. It's almost certainly just a design choice, as covering the screen while docked sends a clear message to the user that it isn't meant to be a second display.

Where would their branding go on an open front? No room for it on the device (visibly when docked) and it would likely be minuscule on an open face. I'm sure wanting your brand at the front is a big thing.

That's definitely a good point too! So yeah... It's definitely clear why they wanted the dock the way it is. The internet is just an echochamber that makes it seem that issues like this are larger than they really are. This doesn't mean that people who have this issue don't have a right to complain, just that we should all stay calm and keep our perspective in check.
 
Guys stop dismissing all the people with scratches, this is a real issue which has happened before with a new mainstream tech launch.

If you're a fucking idiot and aren't careful enough when removing it

See the similarities?

If the dock was open faced, just imagine the equivalent of this thread. Lots of people screaming OMG I CANT BELIEVE ITS NOT COVERED as their dog licks the screen or their mum scratches it whilst hoovering their bedroom.
