Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Put my amFilm on 2 days ago. It's slightly off center and there's a fiber just under the bottom left edge, but the actual screen looks great. I had a pretty big bubble that I had to lift the protector off to get out, too.

The Switch how fits snugly in the dock. Which is fine, but kind of weird at first.

I didn't notice any scratches on my screen in the 1 I used it. Think my dock is fine, but extra security is nice.

Guys stop dismissing all the people with scratches, this is a real issue which has happened before with a new mainstream tech launch.

1. The iPhone 6 bends!
If you sit your fat arse down with it in your back pocket

2. The Nintendo Switch Dock scratches the screen!
If you're a fucking idiot and aren't careful enough when removing it

See the similarities?

If the dock was open faced, just imagine the equivalent of this thread. Lots of people screaming OMG I CANT BELIEVE ITS NOT COVERED as their dog licks the screen or their mum scratches it whilst hoovering their bedroom.

No, I don't think you need to be a fucking idiot to scratch your screen, the screen itself is fragile enough, it really doesn't asks for much to be scratched. So yeah, I guess I was the most careful idiot ever.

Instead of saying people are fucking idiots for using their product as intended I'd suggest thinking a little bit before posting shit like that. :)

Disagree. Why are people advising that it's fragile? There are videos of a man SMASHING it into his dock and its fine. It is not fragile. It's a screen which you use with caution.

I sticked a piece of paper foam from the box between my Switch and the plastic tabs each time before slotting the Switch in, I cleaned both each time before repeating the process.

The screen is made of plastic, the tabs are made of hard plastic, tabs can definitely scratch the screen, no matter how careful you can be.

To be honest the thread title is absolutely unjustified as it certainly isn't inevitable that I will scratch my screen.

You're right, I've given it some more thought. I think the thread title should be changed, as it stands its stating that EVERYONES Switch will be scratched by the dock at some point.

I think a more accurate thread title would be:

Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen if you are a fucking idiot

if you're talking about Poppy, a couple hours later he noticed scratches on his screen too.

This sounds more like a design/manufacturing problem more than an end-user one.

Cool, man, you sound like a fun guy to debate with.

EDIT: Sounds like you were banned. :)

I got some slight scratches on my screen from putting it in and out very carefully. Nothing dramatic and I could care less about it, but it's there.

I guess I'm just a fucking idiot. Better that than a fucking dick.

My screen protector has wobbly scratches like in those pictures.

Treat my consoles like babies, so I know it's not my fault. The dock, well at least mine, has a design problem. Shouldn't be doing that at all, if it wasn't for the screen protector I would be ANGRY af

After I got my screen protector and let it set for a day I finally gingerly put my switch into the dock. Release it and sure enough 4 scratch points, 2 lines up towards the top and two square scratches towards the bottom. My dock out of the box has a slight angle to the front plate.

Any official process with Nintendo other than "just open up a ticket" for this?

Curious. So are people with defective docks advising Nintendo and getting them replaced?

I bit the bullet and ordered the amFilm tempered glass protector, even though amazon.es won't ship it until the 21th, and it will take a long time to reach my location but whatever.

It's apparently a pack with two screen protectors, not just one, and I have quite some experience applying these, so my gf and me paid it in half, one for each Switch. 5€ for a tempered glass screen protector, not bad at all!

Surely it was a plastic protector you have, right?

I couldn't believe those tabs could scratch a tempered glass. D:

either two things I expect by June from Nintendo.

A revamped dock design with shielding.

A screen protector packed into every box.

My bet is on the latter.

Did they also provide screen protectors for 3DS scratching issues? 🤔

Nope. But I think they did redesign the console a bit. I know my XL had nubs that kept the screen from touching the bottom half completely. My OG 3DS did not.

I know the dude above got banned, but for anyone else sharing his sentiment, my dock is so bent that it's impossible to insert my Switch into it without it scraping the dock all the way down. Don't be an asshole.

I notice big smudges on my amFilm at the bottom corners, seemingly from the rubber, but no scratches. And the Switch is definitely more snug in the dock now. They wipe off easy enough. I noticed similar smudges on my screen prior to the protector, but they were not as pronounced.

Same here, dock was tight and made me a bit wary.

Luckily had screen protector on as I went to midnight launch when I got it, and was too late at home to play other than handheld... so deep nick in the right side protector. Waiting on some glass ones, I have been slowly bending he dock with books and heat from hairdryer this past week to slowly de-warp the dock to a more forgiving shape.

Yeah, those most likely come from the rubber and are 'wipeable', so I expect the same thing.

Tempered glass is more thick than plastic screens too, so it just makes sense. :)

As long as the tabs can't scratch glass, I'm fine.

Zagg InvisiShield HDX. Everywhere I looked for tempered glass had a backlog until April. Plus that lifetime replacement gave me a hedge for my fears (which were proven to be correct).

Just noticed I've got a tiny scratch on the unit which lines up perfectly with the dock.

I really thought this issue was due to the way people are handling the docking/undocking of the system or a combination of bent docks.

I've got a 'perfect' dock as far as I can tell, I'm the only person that's touched the system and yet I've got a scratch so I'm a little annoyed by it!

Just ordered a screen protector from Amazon but it won't be here for a few days.

I know it's not the end of the world but it's pretty annoying.

Same here, perfect dock yet my system ended up getting a scratch on the back in the middle somehow due to my friend. I really wonder how they never came across this problem themselves, or did and thought it was within a margin of error. The chosen materials just don't match together. Such a disappointment...

All I can tell you guys about the Orzly protector is that I have a Orzly tempered glass protector for my phone (Nexus 5X) and it's great

I can only think of the system not getting enough airflow from the back if you put it flat on a surface. Will get such a cable myself now that the back has scratched.

I know I keep banging on about it but maybe more people will see it.

Get a USB C extension cable from Cable Creation and avoid the dock issue completely. Make a complaint to Nintendo but in the meantime just buy the cable. Besides, Cable Creation seem like quality cables and they deserve more sales imo.

or just use a screen protector and not have some weird looking cable situation

Guys just buy a tempered glass protector. "But then the protector gets the scracthes and still looks bad!" No, because glass is much harder to scratch than plastic, that's the whole point. No need to bother with extension cables. A tempered glass protector is also...cristal clear, you know. There's no IQ downgrade.

I thought there was talk earlier in this thread about how these cables are not up to spec. They may work fine for now, but I am still somewhat concerned about the long term effects.

Loving the Zelda screen protector. No scratches on either screen or protector so far.

The system should probably stand vertically when in dock mode to benefit from convection cooling.

Also because that's how the Switch was designed. You'll notice in every mode, docked, handheld and tabletop, the vents are always at the top. I'm thinking if it's docked horizontally and played, it won't blow out the excess heat as well as if it was in the normal, upright position.

Hell if I know, but it wasn't there before because I was being very careful with it. It's nothing serious, but it does suck.

If your 'friend' (with friends like that huh?) slid the Switch out of the dock at an angle so that the middle touched one of the plastic rails, I could very easily imagine a scratch like that appearing.

I get the feeling a lot of scratches have to do with sideways movement. Also, dust getting in between causing long scratches. Anyway, reading your post made me think back to when 'friends' of mine grabbed my shit. Now, I just have cats for that.

Dammit, can my Orzly get here already. I almost bought a Hori normal protector for the interim, but didn't know whether that would melt off like the premium one.

The Orzly seller G-Hub on Amazon UK has obviously marked the items as dispatched without actually sending them.
He must have expected stock and it hasn't arrived. I'll be looking elsewhere.

Yeah, a docked Switch lying horizontally eventually cooking itself to death wouldn't be that surprising.
