Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

The Orzly seller G-Hub on Amazon UK has obviously marked the items as dispatched without actually sending them.
He must have expected stock and it hasn't arrived. I'll be looking elsewhere.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. Really fucking scummy thing to do if so, yeah fair enough your stock hasn't come but at least be upfront about it instead of lying like an asshole and marking them as dispatched.

Edit: I'm going to give it two days for it to come and then request a refund and make a complaint to Amazon if it doesn't.

Owner for nearly a week, handled by my kids half the time, in and out multiple times daily. No scratches or tell-tale smudges. I have a crappy plastic screen protector that came with my case though. It probably helps.

If your 'friend' (with friends like that huh?) slid the Switch out of the dock at an angle so that the middle touched one of the plastic rails, I could very easily imagine a scratch like that appearing.

I get the feeling a lot of scratches have to do with sideways movement. Also, dust getting in between causing long scratches. Anyway, reading your post made me think back to when 'friends' of mine grabbed my shit. Now, I just have cats for that.

No need for the quotation mark, he's a good friend of mine and was curious in how fast it worked. I asked him not to, he did it anyway and I told him I was not amused that he did because of the scratching problems which he didn't know about. I actually hadn't noticed the scratching until today (he visited two days ago and I use the system pretty much only docked), but he was the last person who (un)docked the system and the scratch wasn't there before. I already notified him through Discord and we'll see how we'll go about this.

I'm so triggered watching the perfectly straight docks.

So I had a badly bent dock and tried to stretch it out with a book over 2 days, didn't do anything, just went back to its previous shape when I removed the book. Then I shoved a bigger book in there and left it by a window that lets in a lot of sun, it worked, I might have even gone overboard with it because it's bent outwards now, but now that I know how, I'll just bend it back a little more to make it straight.

So my Switch arrived a few hours ago and I noticed that my Switch slides more easily in the left side of dock which means that the right side is less wide than the left one.

Is my dock a faulty one?

By this standard they are all faulty. The dock isnt exactly a rock solid piece, very easy to bend and adjust as people in this thread are doing.

Didn't get scratches yet but a big blue mark that you can see when grey to black colors are displayed.

It happened with the Switch in case in a backpack, facing outside and without much pressure. That screen is really fragile, be careful people.

I read on Nintendo's website that these colored marks can happen with screen protectors so even if you manage to buy one (no one is available where I live) you're not 100% protected.

Hopefully I'll manage to get a refund but I'll lose my Zelda save and I might get another issue like this in the future.

Coloured marks? Big blue mark? I've never heard of this issue. Do you have pics?

Arggggggg I had a perfect application

and then I couldn't coerce this bubble fast enough. I've never had a bubble this big.

Should I keep trying to move it out? Let it leave on its own (will big ones even do that?). Or take another stab at this?

Also remembered I had this book in my room, its perfect for widening!

if you have a cloth just slowly massage that bubble towards the edge, it'll disappear. it could take a while tho.

Can' get it right on a picture with my phone and now the Switch is in the box, I only have this pic

You constantly see this blue mark with dark areas of games but actually it's bigger when you turn on the screen brightness all the way up (not really visible though).

It's really annoying in games even though you could get used ot it. I shouldn't have played for 15 minutes in the subway, I may have put it too quickly in my bag or Something like this, but so much for the "play everywhere"...

They marked an shipped because Amazon was going to cancel orders without explaining why. I was emailed about it well in advance and offered a cancellation. They expect orders to arrive by end of march per email I got yesterday.

Wooh boy almost there, big boys gone but it left behind some very small stragglers

That hinge method is crazy useful, can't believe I hadn't seen it before
yeah, it's crazy good!

the small bubbles will disappear on their own, or if you massage them they will dissipate :P you don't even need to push the small ones to the edge, just massaging over them will make them small enough that they give up.

Yeah what the heck. It should have been here already. I order the amFilm later and I got it.

My AmFilm glass protector is scheduled to arrive in the mail today. If I put it on first thing in the morning and let it sit for 8 hours until I get off work, will that be enough time to let it settle and protect against bubbling from the heat?

My AmFilm protector came. The top layer has these tabs on it so you can aim the screen protector over where it should be on the Switch. The first one i had as soon as I took off the bottom layer the top layer detached and the screen hit the ground (dusty mess so it was garbage). The 2nd protector did the exact same thing but i was hovering over my switch because i thought it would do the same thing (it did). Seems like there wasn't enough adhesive on the top layer to compensate for the weight.

I expect this to be because of the high volume they are trying to churn out now because of the dock/scratch issue.

I thought there was talk earlier in this thread about how these cables are not up to spec. They may work fine for now, but I am still somewhat concerned about the long term effects.
This is what I've heard. I wish someone in the know would do some research on the best cables for the Switch. Not everyone wants to put on an ugly screen protector that may have the chance of getting dust or air bubbles trapped inside.

So we got our amfilm protectors in, we just bought 1 pack but we have 2 switches, I believe both were applied with no issues as I see no dust or bubbles, so I think we're good. Should we be waiting any time before using it? Like can I use it without docking it or, what are the steps there?

Don't wanna mess it up since it applied well.

You can use it portable, no worries there. I just wouldn't recommend docking it for a day or so just to be safe. The dock I think might be causing sheering from friction and pulling at the adhesive in some situations. If your dock is bent try wedging something in there to open it back up a bit. Maybe leave it for a day as well.

Cool, i'll avoid putting it in the dock for today and i'll wedge a snes cart in the dock to see if that helps. So the heat won't be an issue for the adhesive for the early part?

I think they're more likely being sold due the screen having no other protection.

Ya know, like cell phones.

No one had confirmed that heat was actually ever an issue. It's been based off of a couple Reddit posts. It certainly could be an issue, but then I'd imagined we'd be hearing about it a lot more than that. It needs to be properly tested. To me it makes more sense that an adhesive that hadn't set fully was being pulled by docking friction. Again though that's purely speculation. As far as I'm aware no one has actually tested scientifically why it's happening with protectors.

The dock itself seems to be the commonality though, and I don't think the dock causes the device to get so hot that it would unbond adhesives. That would probably mean a far greater issue than adhesive in your screen protector. So just stands to reason.

Edit: Wrong user. I thought the person you quoted was someone else who had already replaced an earlier set they missed applied and screwed up again.

My order of the amFilm Tempered Glass protectors arrive today and I put it on my Switch after my shower, went on nicely and looks great. Now I'm not nervous about docking and undocking my Switch. Worth the $10 for sure!

EDIT: The Orzly method above is what I used for mine, the TechMatte one came with 6 stickers to use for removing dust/hinge installs.

Just got my second dock today and it's bent like crazy! Much more than the dock that came with the system. Shit. Already put a book in, hopefully it works.

Just put my tempered glass protector on. I think it went perfectly. In fact, I can't even tell it is there and had to re read the directions to make sure that pulling off two pieces of plastic was normal haha

Speaking of docked mode. Is it normal for the fan to kick in high gear while docked and playing zelda ?

I was chaging my pro controller as i was plaglying docked. I couldnt hear if since it was close to the tv but when i came close and removed it i was able to hear the fans

That looks really nice. Were there reports of the heat from the dock/Switch causing issues with glass screen protectors?

There were reports of the amfilm one peeling if docked immediately after application. The silicone adhesive hadn't had time to set and the added heat build up in the dock can cause issues. I'm sure Orzly are just covering themselves, but i will be leaving mine to set if it ever turns up...

I think I'll do this with mine. I tested and the dock leave some vertical marks in my Switch that are gone when I clean it.

It does it for me for the first few minutes after booting the game but usually slows down afterwards.

This fix looks great.

I have a maker select 3d printer that could easily handle this so I am excited once the dude on reddit gets done making the file for us to download.

The possibility of a custom front with a switch logo or other things is going to make this a fantastic fix. Too bad nintendo didn't think of this and sell cover plates like the 3ds.

There still hasn't been mass reports stating it's an mass issue like the joy con syncing huh? I feel like the thread title should be tweaked as to reflect that.

So I had to leave my house shortly after applying the protector. There were a few tiny bubbles right on the edges that I didn't have time to get out. Do you think I'll be able to press those out later, or will it be pretty set?

This is what the Dock should have been.

This is what the Dock should have been.

I think they were trying to make it seem like a 'console' while also shielding off the screen to eliminate any miscommunication about what it's for. You can call it stupid and all that but, I mean we have people on this very forum thinking it's a 'console' because Nintendo calls it one. Messaging and perception are important.

I own two Switches and both docks are bent.
Between my brother and I we have two docks in good shape. Anecdotal evidence =y

I'm just saying compared to the joycon syncing I don't really see it as widespread on the internet. Thread title implies that ALL/great amount of switches will get scratched by docks. But eh =y
