How many episodes ended with Clark in his little barn attic, Lana or his dad walking up to give him emotional support, all while that same Five for Fighting song plays?

Man... fucking Smallville. I'd be lying if I said it didn't have moments, but they were rare.

fuck the haters, i enjoyed it at the time
prob bad now if you want to rewatch all of it, but prob still good if there's select/key episodes you want to rewatch

This show exemplifies the "it was so much better when I was younger" feeling for me. As in, this show was better when I wasn't so discerning and there wasn't much else for superheroes on tv like there is now. The real tragedy of this show was how great the production crew and the actors were, but the writing let them down so often. That and the creators' undeserved love for Lana Lang.

Smallville came when the only other superhero show was Birds of Prey, we had nothing else to compare it to so we took it. Then Arrow came and it was decent it's first season, great in season 2. Flash came and it's been great. Supergirl is good. Constantine could've been something. Gotham for the people who for some reason like that. Agents of Shield is good. The netflix Marvel shows are all good. Legion loks interesting. Heroes was a thing for a bit. Ever since Smallville's "reign" we've been blessed to see so much better in the realm of superhero tv

I loved the first three seasons so much, then it turned to shit when they started pretending like it could be something other than a teen drama. Smallville was a teen drama set in the world of Superman, not a Superman show. It didn't have the budget for that and it's not what the first three seasons were about. I watched the series finale for old times' sake but the only thing I liked was the last 30 seconds.

Also, I had a massive crush on Kristin Kreuk. Sad that her character went nowhere, because we knew she and Clark wouldn't end up together.

We probably don't get all those other shows without Smallville's success though.

Good things about Smallville:

Michael Rosenbaum's performance as Lex Luthor.
Allison Mack's performance as Chloe Sullivan.
John Schneider's performance as Jonathan Kent.
Christopher Reeve's cameo.
That lighthearted scene where Clark and Barry Allen get to race.

Bad things about Smallville:

Literally everything else.

I watched Smallville back in the day and it was fine for a typical WB teen drama (it was no Buffy tho). I thought they kept the show interesting until Rosenbaum left. On the plus side, Kreuk left and I hated her character. Didn't Jensen Ackles play a bad guy on one of the seasons about a year before Supernatural?

Yes, and he also auditioned to be Clark but got rejected for a loaf of white bread.

I watched it on and off for the first few seasons. The "meteor freak of the week" format over 20+ episodes was hard to sit through. I basically learned that the season premiere and season finales were the only thing worth watching. There was nothing to keep me there in-between.

Smallville gets shitted on an awful lot but it's still remains my favorite DC show (and I watch them all).

Sure there were, at times some extremely terrible episodes/stories (Kryptonite gum, Lana in the later seasons) but the show still had a lot of really solid action and more importantly I cared more about the characters of Smallville then any other DC show.

Also Alan Richson aka Thad Castle is fucking Aquaman

Nothing will top
"I like you, just a little bizarre"

Still better writting than anything the DC Cinematic Universe

Smallville's awesome and although I can understand some of the hate due to its cheesiness and with what it did to some of the characters (their version of Deathstroke was hilariously awful), I still think it's looked down upon unfairly. It was pretty damn good for its time.

Also, #TeamChloe all the way.

Yeah, and Heroes was great for all of one season. Although we might owe the current superhero shows as much to Heroes as Smallville.

One. One episode had that song in it.

Gotham as great as it is, is Smallville with far better writers and not needing to compromise on villains for budget nature due to the nature of Batman's villain.

Without Smallville I feel we don't get Arrow and without its explosion we certainly wouldn't have half these shows happening now.
I also give Game of Thrones and Walking Dead credit for this.

I was 10 when it first aired. I really dug the first 4 seasons. Seasons 5-6 were weaker but still fun. I ended up falling out with the series during the later episodes that seemed to go into self parody.

I should really give those first few seasons a rewatch.

Tom Welling is fine and watchable. He is okay in the role. Micheal Rosenbaum is the definitive Lex Luthor. He is so charismatic and his fall to villainy is great. John Schneider as Jonathan Kent was also excellent. Young me had a huge crush on Kristen Kruek.
you forgot about Smallvilles most underrated star, the one and only Lionel Luthor

yes he was Lanas evil football coach boyfriend, his mom was an evil witch

This show man, this fucking show.

It had so much goddamn potential, some of the episodes were really some quality tv but goddamn it tripped over itself so much after season 4...no honestly after season 3 is when the lapses in reason and logic started compounding into oblivion and show started just drowning in a sea of idiosyncrasies.

There are so many awkward story lines that are either dropped resolved clumsily, or evolve into something that feels like it has slowly slipped out of the writers control like:

The Native American prophecy of Naman
Everything about Lana
The pseudo justice league shit that goes ultimately no where since only Green Arrow and The Martian Man hunter remain as regulars
The ISIS foundation
Zod's return
Kara's post season 7 storyline
Jor-El's training
The Kandorians
Checkmate
The time travel shit

I wrote a huge ass rant thread about this show once because it's an endless source of disappointment for me.

Remember when it looked like Supergirl was going to take over the show, but she disappeared like that?

Lol they had no clue what to do with that character, and they didn't even bother to hide it. After 8 episodes, she gets amnesia and teleported away so she wouldn't be in any episodes, and then she's found but still has amnesia so there's not much screentime, next she gets her powers back and is immediately kidnapped by Brainiac, and then Brainiac just impersonates her for the rest of the season. They threw her into the phantom zone just to be rid of her.

I'll always remember the way the Canadian actress couldn't hide her accent every time she said "couch."

I still haven't finished the show. I still have like three episodes to watch, but just never got around to it. Maybe I will one day.

Lol I still have the finale to finish.

Watched everything back when it came out but for some reason never finished the last episode. Think I was out of town or busy?

I wish we had a mass list of all the casualties.
Absolutely destroyed Heroes and Pushing Daisies.

The last thing Dragonball Evolution needed was to be hit by a writers' strike.

The second season of Friday Night Lights has no resolution.

Gossip Girl, on the other hand, came out of the strike with a bang. For a while it looked like there wouldn't be new episodes and that would have been disastrous for a new show trying to find its footing, but the post-strike episodes were really strong.

But dat Lifehouse tho

Gotham ain't shit, but this isn't the place for my intense dislike of that show
Actually LANA FUCKING LANG was the witch. Or her ancestor was and was using her body. And it was hilariously bad. Jensen's mom was just evil, and killed Margot Kidder's character.

Season 4 was a mess.
Season 4 was great for sheer dumb ass shit happening, was the beginning of the downfall. Show got back to being decent in season 8, kinda. Callum Blue's Zod in season 9 was great though

I've actually been rewatching this while skipping through episodes & parts I know were bad (so, a lot).

It actually makes for a good show that way. LOL.

Though fatigue has started to set in and I have slowed down significantly at season 6.

Lana was so weird, from likeable to a jerk , from innocent to ambitious, from good to evil in an instant :P

but still, 5 out of 10 Seasons of Smallville were pretty cool. great characters at times.

And the soundtrack, soooo goood!

Was I the only one who kept comparing Tom Wellings Superman while watching Batman Vs Superman? Good show until the 4/5th season

The writer's obsession with Lana Lang single handedly destroyed the show.

Funnily enough, the creators swore that she's what made the show work. They even cast her before casting Clark Kent. Suspiciously enough, as soon as Kristin Kreuk left the show, so did they...

I have the soundtrack version of You and Me. NO REGERTS

After the creators left, the show had a remarkably higher consistency of decent tv. Ignoring the back half of Season 8, anyways.

She's the very definition of a poorly-written character. She'd be different episode to episode depending on what the plot needed. And then she just became evil, and the show would keep trying to tell the audience she was still awesome, somehow. The show would also keep doing the shitty practice of having her meet a character for the first time, and said character would just fawn over her even though she hadn't done anything yet.
