Yeah I played her this morning and I am very impressed with her design. Visually it is a huge upgrade and I think she has the most lifelike running animation I've seen so far. And she isn't tastelessly skanky like I thought she would be! Great work by the Hi-Rez designers. Game-wise, her kit is strong but tricky; the Lash targeter is very interesting and is tough to land in the heat of battle, which is a good thing. I was worried she would be OP but she isn't.

How do you guys build her, item and skills? I maxed Lash first but I'm gonna try maxing her stun first like Rygar said and buy Fist of the Gods for ultimate auto-attack enjoyment. I built Tabi, Jotunn's, Qin's Sais, Deathbringer and then the game ended but I was gonna finish with Malice and Bloodforge.
 
didnt level her 3 all the way first but i do use it a lot dat double stun i start off with her 2 then put 1 into her 3 then the rest into her 1 2 and 4 and finish her 3 last also if you use her 2 aimed a foot infront of your face when you are jumping them all 3 weapons hit sooo good

level 2 warrior tabi and 3 pots to start then level her boots all the way and get a hand of gods fully leveled then for the rest i go qins sais, asi, titans bane, malice (or sovereignty/ bulwark of hope if i need to go tanky),death bringer
 
Yeah I've found that you need at least a Magi's Blessing because she is so goddamn squishy. If the enemy team had a couple stuns then I would get locked down and killed really fast.
 
go bananas on them and save your leap for escape ill only use my jump for damage if i 1v1 someone and i know for sure that all enemies are accounted for on the minimap also remember you can jump through walls with it
 
I've found that I like rushing Devourer's Touch on her. (Dev Gloves are better but in Arena/Domination it's too much effort to get all those last hits.) After that I get Tabi, Focused Voidblade, and Qin's Sais. I've been switching it up after that. I might try getting a Qin's earlier.
 
qins and asi make all the difference i dont do any damage till i build qins sais and asi those with her hit progression are stupid you attack so fast do crazy damage and have massive life steal
 
The problem Kali has is that she's an auto-attack based character. An auto-attack based character needs a slow or speed buff in order to work properly, otherwise an enemy can just run the fuck away from you, and you can't do shit.
The stun is nice, but it doesn't fix her issues, sadly.

And the passive is way too random to actually matter.

Maybe building a Frostbound Hammer or Hastened Fatalis would help? But yes, I've had a lot of people escape from me when I didn't have a teammate with a stun/slow to back me up.

Well see the thing is, those items otherwise are not really that worth it. And why bother having to build them if you could just pick a character like Thanatos or Mercury and have the same or even better results without having to invest into those items?

This is true. The way I see it, Kali is more of a semi-carry. Her AoE stun is great for setting up kills and for saving teammates. She has this weird feeling, like all her skills are great on their own, but her kit doesn't really have much synergy. I like her though.

Rygar was right about her build, btw. Asi and Qin's are the best. My build is now: Tabi, Asi, Qin's Sais, Hastened Fatalis, Frostbound Hammer, and Bloodforge. Extreme attack speed and I stick to my target like glue. It worked really well for me — after Qin's is built she can shred mages down pretty fast. It's a pretty cheap build too; the Deathbringer + Malice crit build was too damn expensive.

I haven't played him yet but I've played against him many times now. His heal and ult are damn annoying to deal with. And that stupid axe throw move does a lot of damage early on. Still, I'm glad that he isn't OP.

I bought Athena because I keep playing Arena matches where nobody picks a tank. Ares is obviously the king of Arena but I find him frustrating to play. His shackles are hard to land and if you miss them that's like 80% of your DPS gone. I'm liking Athena because I play her similar to Ymir, who I have a lot of experience with. Her 2 is great because it's like a mix of Sobek's pull with Ymir's stun. I love dragging enemies into Ao Kuang's tornadoes or Zeus' ult.
 
I get this game isn't very popular around here? I was looking for some people to add after quitting League because of the infamous server problems. Oh well.

Thread definitely isn't as active as it used to be. But still, it's mostly been a handful of people posting in here regularly. I know some of them were looking for Gaffers to play with, so hopefully they'll reply to you.
 
The real issue is that due to the amount of time a single match takes to play, when I log on 9 times out of 10 everyone on my friends list is already playing. I still play on and off although I've been giving my PS4 alot more love in the last couple of weeks. I still love Smite though ,,, my favourite game to play when tipsy.

edit: and yes, it's a shame SMITE doesn't get more love on GAF. I would have thought it would be a huge hit here.

This is why I really, really wish you could mouse over and get a quick overview of how a person's match is going. They could be 5 minutes from ending or have just started 5 minutes ago, and there's no easy way to quickly tell.

Still lots of fun,and the community overall seems surprisingly mellow and friendly which I was happy to find out. I hope I can get 30 before the official launch. Closing in on 22.
 
I recently have been getting into this game. Been wrecking shit as Freya. She isn't all that great in the early game but damn is she fast in the mid to late. I went on a 19 kill streak in a match with her. And we were down a man in that one.

no anhur or art? they are both great with anhur you want to be pinning people with your one against walls when a enemy is hit by your one they are knocked back and if they hit any surface even thors wall or ymirs they get stunned once they are stunned you walk up to their stupid face and ult point blank you should also only be using your obelisk to pin them pop it up behind them and nail them with your one and save your leap for escape
as for art you rely on your traps and her two and boar mostly her three is only for harassment main thing you want to do is run into them then pop your boar and while they are stunned put a trap on them and then pop your two your attack speed buff and go to town on them

I know how they work for the most part, I just don't enjoy playing them unfortunately. I figured out the "pin" thing pretty quick but it's just not something I like (reminds me a lot of Vayne's E who I also don't like in LoL) and Artemis not having a "real" escape, especially for things like Arena where there's no good choke points for traps, is just not something I want to deal with (although I love her ult) since I solo queue a lot and can absolutely not rely on peels or mias. Cupid and Chang' e and Neith all have escape-y things and I also happen to like the rest of their kit and their aesthetics too.

And yes, I know all about Combat Blink. A built in escape + Combat Blink is pretty much mandatory on any champ I am looking at before I even bother with them. It's too good once one gets used to it. :3 I am trying hard to enjoy melee champs in this game more than LoL since there's some really good (overpowered?) ones like Chaac and Kali, but the favor prices...ick.

Edit: oooh new rotation. Maybe having a slow + a passive speed boost on the Cab bee guy will be enough for me.

Bacchus, Odin, Fenrir and Poseidon are also on rotation.
 
geb is pretty meh but his ult and shield are pretty good also like the new change to starting items can get level 1 boots 5 health 1 mana and a fist of the gods right off the bat

He's very...unexciting, even by Guardian standards. Between the shield for saving the bacon of others, and the ult being more for initiation instead of kills, he seems like the kind of guy you dutifully go 2/4/37 with while the rest of your team has actual fun.
 
I'm considering getting into this game, Thanatos stands out as a champ id enjoy playing. How is he?

Not a champion I'd start with (being a squishy assassin + having your abilities cost health can get you in trouble very quickly), but very effective in capable hands.

You have to be careful about whiffing his 1 (Death Scythe) due to the health loss but it deals excellent damage to gods for a ranged attack.

His 2 (Scent of Death) sounds impressive on paper, but Thanatos is slow enough that it doesn't get you quite as rolling as you'd think, even when the double move speed is activated.

3 (Soul Reap) is an easy on-demand silence, which isn't exactly abundant in the game.

The ultimate (Hovering Death), of course, is spectacular when pulled off, but you have to be careful about getting too greedy and putting yourself in a bad position when you come down. Also it's not trivial to hit an opponent (the downward attack is fast, but your area of effect is very small).

Tux is right. With the exception of the cat god Bastet, that has lots of escapes the assassins are not good starting choices for noobs due to their squishiness. My suggestion is to start off with a Tank and learn the items. Hades, Athena and Ymir are good starter gods.
 
I gotta say, the one thing that took me by surprise with Geb is how far his 1 can knockback if he hits you at full speed. You can knock somebody out of a fight or into a terrible place, although it's somewhat easy to dodge if you see him coming.

Also, that shield is as obnoxious as I expected...keeping someone high-damage and squishy protected for another 4-6 seconds while they're free to wreak havoc can really ruin a teamfight. I expect some kind of nerf, it's way too good as-is (either less lifetime or less health/health contribution).

Edit: I'm also going to say Ymir, although being a good Guardian isn't trivial.

Ra lacks a reliable escape, but I think he's otherwise great for learning (good practice for hitting skill shots at range + healing). It's good to have experience with characters that can't easily bail from a bad spot anyway, it breeds good habits and teaches you positioning.
 
i think hes pretty meh his 1 dosnt do damage unless you have the full roll up and even then its super easy to dodge the hit box on it is super small also makes it so you cant follow up with any attacks if you dont knock them into a wall think they should reduce the knock back so you can shock wave to follow it up and also remove the damage zone for his shockwave its unnecessary the only thing he has going for him is his shield and his ult is ok for initiate

Isn't Fenrir a pretty good starting choice for beginners? His 1 is a great escape and hes slightly tankier than most assassins, also his 2 + a lifesteal item regenerates so much health

So many people seem to forget his 2 has lifesteal. I had to remind an almost-dead Fenrir in Assault yesterday who was just mindlessly chewing through minions to pop howl.
 
Geb is kinda weird and can really mess up your own team by knocking people into safety, but as unkillable guardians go he's pretty up there and he shield is just WOW. I agree they should probably shift some of that shield's power elsewhere. His lack of hard CC seems to be a problem sometimes regarding initiates and locking down opponents to get his team kills, but in spite of that his potential for peeling and taking hits is pretty awesome.

In other news I have officially found a waifu in Chang'e. I sometimes have a hard time carrying with her but a lot of people seem to end up hating me since she dodges everything, so while they try to chase me around I am whacking them with 1s and the rest of my team gets to swing away. She can also towerdive like a boss and is a lategame monster.

On that note though...where do people go for builds/champ discussion usually? I have been experimenting with my own builds on the champs I like but would like clarification on champ move/build synergy and previous discoveries if there are any popular sites around. Smitefire seems too barebones for me, is there something else?
 
geb is ok just have to rely on his ult plus hand of god to initiate and as far as other places to talk to people about builds and synergy the only site i can think of is http://www.reddit.com/r/smite i hope we get more of it around here once the game releases and it gets more popular

Arena Escort Updates
The Manticore has been replaced in Arena Escort mode. Minions now escort a payload across the map. Mechanically, the rules and bonuses for escorting the new payload are the same as escorting the Manticore. The visual presentation of this mechanic will continue to evolve.
Made several artistic adjustments to the Arena Escort map. Further adjustments are planned for future releases.
Fixed in an issue in which the correct mini-map overlay was not being shown in the new Arena Escort mode.
Escort AI updated. The payload will now stop if any enemies are within 70 ft. The existence of friendly gods within that range will force the payload to continue moving.
The move speed of the payload objective has been reduced.

General
The in-match HUD has undergone a major overhaul. This includes both visual modifications and performance/usability modifications.
In the match lobby, you may now return to the list of gods after you have locked in your god, when you would normally be in skin preview mode (hit the Lightning bolt icon). This has been a much requested Community feature, especially from those players that participate in matches that use Draft Mode.
The splash screen that appears on initial game launch has been modified.
Fixed some issues and bugs with the new user popup help text (sound ducking).
The friends’ list now shows how long your friend has been in their current match.
The AI in solo/co-op modes has undergone a variety of changes.
The health bars on all furies no long move around when the furies are flying.
The Fire Giant and Gold Fury are now always revealed by wards, and, when revealed, their overlays and health bars show through walls (similar to players).
Both regular wards and sentry wards have undergone model modifications to better differentiate the two ward types from each other.
The artistic treatment that occurs when your character dies and takes damage has been modified. The red blood effect has been replaced by a new post-process.
God tooltips on unlocked gods now show their favor and gem price.
The tooltip over online friends in the FRIENDS menu now shows Mastery Level.
Sound FX now play if you try to use an ability when the ability is not available (on cooldown, silenced, stunned, no mana, cannot place, etc.).
Corrected an issue in which knockback was not incrementing the hard CC count for diminishing returns.
Fixed long-standing issue with Diminishing Returns not applying correctly after the first CC application. This should reduce the potential for chain CC.
Minor improvements have been made to the Basic Tutorial.
A variety of updates have been made to the recommended flow for new users after they first enter the game.
Fixed a client crash condition in the party system (if you invited more than 5 people).
You can now preview special skin-based voicepacks on the god screen.
For the MAP PLACEMENT setting, replaced the “BOTTOM” option with a “VERTICAL CENTER” option.
For configuration options with a slider bar, the SETTINGS menu now shows the numerical value currently selected (for more accurate user tweaking).
On the top bar of the friends list, your personal status now appears as either a green button or a yellow button. Green means you are online and fully active. Yellow means you are in Do Not Disturb mode (online but hidden from others). Hit the green button to turn it yellow.

Spectator
Further enhancements have been made to the experimental “Auto Slo-Mo” feature.
A first-pass on art has been done for Spectator mode in Assault. More refinements are expected in later patches.
Partied spectators can sync cameras between them by enabling m_bReceiveCamSync in BattleGame.ini. Currently free-cam is not supported and the feature is only available in assisted mode.
Some visual adjustments have been made to the Conquest map while in spectate mode.
