I think other games should follow Snake Pass and Sonic Mania. No reason to have the title display twice.
Good luck, soldier.

It's. A. Fucking. Logo. Are you guys insane? Do you get less enjoyment out of a physical game if the boxart is shit? Or out of a book if it has a plain cover?
I can understand why you might not like it but to say that you get less enjoyment from the game itself is absolutely absurd.
Not really, when the title of each game is clearly displayed when you move the cursor over it.

That isn't the comparison though. It would be the spine of a book in a bookshelf only having an icon to describe it by. That's cool and quirky for one book but as soon as others do it it starts to become a mess and undermines the entire design philosophy.It's. A. Fucking. Logo. Are you guys insane? And as time goes on, the number of games you have increases, but only one title is displayed at a time.

I hadn't seen that Jackbox Party icon. This week releases the other 2 games, probably with similar images. lol
Good luck, soldier.

I don't play Cod, never in my life have I bought a CoD game, and I know which is which. Other than that, tbh I think it looks great.
I agree.
Not to mention just basic design accessibility considerations. It's funny that people speak as though design around these things is subjective and not grounded in principles. That's one of the primary distinctions between art and design in my opinion, design has a purpose and can be critically evaluated in that regard.Sometimes you need to realise you're in the minority. Us users on GAF do not even represent the average gamer let alone casual gamer.
This is Nintendos fault for not having strict enough guidelines for the game tile. Microsoft is actually surprisingly super strict about this on Xbox One, to the point where multiple games have had to change their icons in an update to adhere to their rules.

The Switch must be very good if this is the kind of complaint being brought up.
I myself don't care one way or the other, but I feel it is stupid that the icon might affect enjoyment of a game.
I'm flabbergasted that this is an issue. Each his own I guess.
More games to add to wall of shame.
- Snake Pass
- Voez
- Implosion
- Bulb Boy
- Little Inferno
- Human Resource Machine
- De Mambo
- Retro City Rampage DX
- Sonic Mania
The age where Switch UI will be a row of Bobbleheads is closer.

You can also add Severed to that list.
I posted this in the Night Trap thread, but this getting bumped reminded me again of it.
The game shows this awesome art in the PSN store:
And THIS is what you get as the game's icon on your PS4:
lol. seriously.

Also, I immediately thought of this Snake Pass thread/icon debacle when I saw the Sonic icon yesterday. FWIW, I think the Sonic icon sucks too and think it should be required to have the game name in the icon. ¯_(ツ_/¯
Looks like a chemical element from periodic table. lol
That's just bad. Why don't they just use the art they already had? This is such a weird design choice.
@screamingvill said:Icon/splash image/etc were modeled after late 80s horror film title cards
You shouldn't have to hover over menu items to know what they are.Not really, when the title of each game is clearly displayed when you move the cursor over it.
