Snatch is just so much better.

Oh man, this is a tough one.

I don't think you can compare the two, really.

I like both films very, very much.

Let's just leave it at that.

Man, you make inane topic after inane topic, but this is quite possibly the most batshit insane thing I've ever heard.

What an awful comparison.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold it there just a minute.

I think this is one thing that everyone can clearly disagree with.

This isn't even a contest. Snatch, as much as I liked it, tried way too hard to be harder, more complicated, more high-impact than Lock Stock that it became its own undoing. It has a couple of cute moments, but there's just waaaay too much exposition from Jason Statham. Rubbish compared to Lock Stock, which in many ways is a high-priced Brit take on the Hong Kong-style action-comedy.

Pulp Fiction outclasses Snatch by a mile.

Hell, even The Sound of Music was better than Layercake.

And Lock Stock > Snatch > Pulp Fiction.

At least we can agree that Layer Cake was utter shit. I can easily see why Ritchie passed on this one.

It's 100% true that Snatch would not exist without Pulp Fiction. Pulp Fiction would also not exist without Scorsese, Fellini, Elmore Leonard, Godard, Truffaut, Melville, every film noir, exploitation films, etc..

Pulp Fiction is a better made film, with better humor, better characters, better direction, and just about better everything else. Snatch is still a pretty damn good film. Pulp just aces it.

Oh and most people who see Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels first like it better. Most who see Snatch like it better. I haven't seen Lock, so I won't compare.

I personally liked Snatch more than I liked Pulp Ficiton but they are both great movies. I think the thing is I first saw Pulp Fiction a long time after it was released and I heard everyone and thier mother quote the move so when I saw it, Im sure it just didnt have hte same impact on me as it did others.

Pulp Fiction would not exist without Kubrick, more to the point. Folks who haven't ought to see "The Killing" for some Tarantino roots.

Re: Layer Cake. I just saw this, and was loving it, then liking it, then thinking it was an OK movie, and then the ending hit and pretty much blew my goodwill toward it.

I've never seen a movie blow it's own potential, then piss on itself with the ending, quite like that. I'd still tell people to see it, but with a caveat.

Resevoir Dogs > Pulp Fiction > Lock Stock > Snatch > Kill Bill > Jackie Brown > Layer Cake

Pulp Fiction >>> Lock Stock>Snatch.

PulpFiction just had a much better script. Althought i also love the other two movies as well.

I don't really get much Kubrick out of Tarantino's work. I would say Roger Avary owes more to Kubrick. If you want to talk crime stories, it all goes back to Elmore Leonard for Tarantino. Go read any of his books, and you will see how much Tarantino has taken from him.

Anyway, everyone is inspired by everyone.

Have you seen The Killing? Clearly a big inspiration for Res Dogs, True Romance and Pulp Fiction. Kubrick in general, I agree with you-- but the Killing is kind of a Tarantino prototype.

Holy God, this thread just gets worse and worse. Layer Cake was a great movie.

I thought so for the first hour or so, but when the payoffs failed to come, the plot got less and less interesting, and then the lame "ooo, Irony!" ending hit... I didn't like it so much.

Pulp Fiction and Snatch can't really be compared--they're both vaguely similar in structure, but tone and intention overall are much different.

That said, I enjoy watching Snatch far more than Pulp Fiction.

Lets just put this properly into context....

Sliced Bread > Fosters Extra Cold > Cheese > Pulp Fiction > Crackers> Sneezing > Snatch > Oven Gloves > Testicular Cancer

Of course I have. I would say Tarantino was influenced more by film noir in general, and there is so much more than just The Killing. Go watch all the specials on the PF DVD, he tells you exactly who is inspirations are. The Charlie Rose interview is great. I think The Killing is talked about on the RD DVD, but I haven't watched that stuff in a while

I'm not saying he wasn't influenced by The Killing but there are many other movies that influenced him much bigger than Kubrick's. I just never got much Tarantino out of The Killing.

I love both Pulp Fiction and Snatch. There's no way I could pick between the two. Depends on what kind of mood I'm in most likely.

I guess. I've seen a bit of film noir, but the killing has, specifically:

non-linear storytelling
gunfight at the end where everybody gets killed

Of course, it also has the heist-gone-worng, but that's a film noir staple.
