Just finished Star Fox 2. Honestly, it was a very enjoyable game, but I absolutely see why they didn't release it originally.

I'm almost sure you can fit more if you make the thumbnails slightly smaller.

Currently they are 40 x 28, so I'm going to resize them all to 30 x 21 and see if it squeezes them closer together for more room or not.

Yeah, this works. I used IrfanView to batch resize the thumbnails so I can fit about 40 of them on screen.

Thanks guys.

Is there any ''recommended'' 3rd party controller? Or any wireless one would be good too

Forum members seem to be praising 8Bitdo's products. If you can wait 'til December, you can pick up this set that comes with the controller and the dongle:
Amazon.com: 8Bitdo SN30 2.4G Wireless Controller for SNES Classic Edition

or

You can pick up a this present offering from 8Bitdo. But my understanding is you have to pick up the controller and dongle seperately. Don't know what retailers you have in your neck of the woods, but my Fry's carries both:

Frys.com: 8Bitdo SNES30 Game Controller - PC Mac Linux

Frys.com: 8Bitdo Bluetooth Retro Receiver for NES (NES)

Very good lists. I would add Stunt Race FX to my "must have" list but I'm probably in the minority.
Added to the "nice to haves". The low framerate of these vector graphics games is hard to put up with but there's definitely some good gameplay to be found.

Must-Haves:

Death and Return of Superman, The
Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie, The
Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow
Plok
X-Men - Mutant Apocalypse

Nice to Have:

Axelay
Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, The
Ogre Battle - The March of the Black Queen
Seiken Densetsu 3
Star Ocean
Tales of Phantasia
Well, no accounting for taste.
I'd personally take anything listed there in the 'nice' list over anything in the 'must' list any day of the week.
Objectively agreed of course. But I've already played the ones on the bottom and thus would rather get to know some games I've missed out on.

let's all be honest here, Nintendo could have charged $100 for this thing and people wouldn't have batted an eye. The fact that they went with $80 is such a sweet price point. Nintendo deserves a big pat on the back.

Funny, Amazon Germany never was below 100€. So yeah, we all paid 100 bucks here.

Yep, just did it! Nice.

I resized them 75% of their original size, they still look fine, but now I can fit 41 on the screen before they go off the edge.

*Looks at OT title*

Sooo... i guess modding is now OK to talk about?

If so, how easy/feature complete is irt right now? Should I wait until modders perfect it or is it as good as it's going to get right now?

Basically just wait until the program used to mod the NES mini becomes functional for the SNES mini

There's still a ways to go before a fully-featured, more user-friendly public solution is released. If you try it now it's more difficult and will almost certainly be replaced by a better/easier method later

Apparently despite owning one at the time I know very little of the SNES library. Lookin' over the lists of wanted games being posted an so many are ???'s to me. I also can't hardly think of more then a few I know I'd wanna add. Genesis + Sega Channel was just to OP back in the day! Any multi-platform games I'd originally played on Genesis would feel wrong playing on an SNES lol.

As for Final Fantasy 3 (or 6) when you fight that big snail thing at the beginning, it tells you not to attack the shell, but how do you know when not to input an attack command if it can just disappear into its shell at any time?

Do you just eyeball it or is there some method to cancel an attack I'm missing?

Been years, but it kind of felt like it was on an invisible timer of sorts. Like every 2-3 rounds it ducks into the shell.

Really you are overthinking it as A)It's an easy tutorial fight, and B)Just stop attacking when the game makes it very clear that the turtle is in its shell (both visually and through on screen text). You may likely have an attack queued up when it happens, so that character will cause your team a bit of damage you couldn't avoid, but only a small bit.

The whole point is to ensure the player is paying attention and not just blindly mashing the A button to win. That's it. Stop for a couple rounds when the game makes it clear to do so and you cannot really lose(use that time to heal the accidental damage if you had bad luck with one or two characters waiting to attack).

I don't know about "a ways to go", didn't Cluster_m say he could have it done in 7-10 days?

Ok I think I have chosen my 10 extra games

Chrono Trigger
Soul Blazer
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma
Unirally
Turtles in Time

Yeah, sorry. I have a strong dislike for most JRPGs, but I'm trying to force myself to play this one because I want to see what the deal is with FF6. Probably why I got discouraged (or annoyed) so easily :P.

Thanks for the tips though.

I need a shmup on there, but can't decide between UN Squadron and R-Type 3. Or maybe a Parodius..

Does Pocky & Rocky count?

If you haven't played it yet, the Octopath Traveler Demo feels like the natural evolution of the good ol' Square SNES days. It's really great.

I certainly have played it.

That game is what I want an FFVI Remake to be. I have trouble imagining the characters as full 3D models, so this would be the best of both worlds.

Well personally I’d love a Vanillaware style FF, but one dream at a time.

Finished Kirby Super Star's Great Cave Offensive 100%. Still a lot of fun! I just love how each of the rooms feel like their own little world in a way. Kind of like the tower in Final Fantasy Legend. Some of those treasures were harder to get than I remember. I ended up dying quite a lot too now that I wasn't relying on savestates as much. Had to use a savestate for the three treasures in the castle basement that takes forever to get to because I kept dying in real dumb ways down there.

Think I'll replay Super Mario World next. I've gotten to the end plenty of times, but I don't think I've ever found all the secret stages on the world map itself. I remember warping to star areas with no route anywhere and wondering what nearby stages could have secret exits that I missed

Just got my UK SNES today. Did the UK consoles have softer to press buttons than the US or are all of them a bit weak. (Controller)

Heh, Screwattack had that exact same problem.

Sounds good, spill it :D

Scroll up. :P

10 is just for the anal people who want them all on the same row, right? Do we know the limit otherwise?

If you're willing to deal with folders, there's pretty much no limit beyond the 300 something MB of writable memory. I've selected 96 games and that brings me to 200, but bear in mind this space is shared with savestates and such, so leave some of it free.
Here's an extreme example on the Mini NES:

is there no ''shortcut'' on the controller to go back to the home menu?

I know L+R + Select + Start to soft reset the game, but i,d have excepted another combo to go back to the home menu instead of having to get up every time...

If I don't sit within arms reach, I basically do a commando roll across my floor and then hit reset.

I have the wireless hori pad but still sit in front of the tv.

Completed Super Castlevania IV. In the process of finishing games I've never played before (eg: Zelda) and games I only ever fleetingly played (SMW).

So what's everyone thinking of StarFox 2? Outside of a bit short I've already cleared it once and can definitely see it being infinitely replayable!
I couldn't overlook the performance issues so I hated it, but I thought it had some cool ideas for it's time.
