the venue for the meeting was pretty small. security wouldn't let me into the side stage area though

Yes, this guy went onto 2ch to show off that he bought 5,500 copies of “Everyday Katyusha” on the day of its release. Out of 942,745 copies sold that first day, this guy is responsible for over a half-percent of those sales all by his lonesome. There’s three editions of the single, each with a different cover and B-side. Most CD singles Japan average 1,600 yen (about $16 US, average) apiece. That means that this guy spent close to nine million yen, or close to $110,000, to pull this stunt off, and without much rhyme or reason, it seems.

That's pretty crazy as well. Even in 'everything is expensive' Australia CD singles I'm sure were like $10 at most, and these days even physical albums are $20 at the most.
