So after all these years, is Xbox really back to just only having Halo, Gears, and Forza?

??????

So just because Microsoft have other games that are flops, then it only has Halo, Gears and Forza?

My man, those are flops as well... Microsoft doesnt have anything beyond Microsoft Flight simulator.

Not sure Halo and Forza are doing good at all. In fact T10 has lost many employees today. There has not been a Gears games for years as well and the next one is not expected to release any time soon either.

Forza is dead as half the studio just got gutted unless we talking about Horizon.

Gears is on a let's see because the first two games under the coalition were just average and now they have abandoned the trilogy to go back to Marcus.

Halo Infinite was just average, and I have no idea what they are going to do next in terms of sequel. Do we even trust 343 to do it right for the fourth time?

They cut Turn 10 in half. Remove Forza.

Yeah I'm referring to Forza Horizon.

Forza Motorsport was another flop and I'd imagine that franchise is dead too.

It's on rival sub service (!!!) PS+ Essential now just because it's doing wonderfully, eh?

I mean, D4 is hardly a flop. But it's not the big and loud GP subs driver and big earner that MS envisioned.
It's on Steam, Battle.net, Xbox app/game pass , Xbox/game pass and PS.

Are all Sony games on PC not big and loud too because they are also on PC??

It really isn't, especially if you aren't a Gears/Forza/Halo fan. They offer so much more now, it's not even comparable.

Game releases are way better today, yes. But when I say it's more dire now in many ways, I'm referring to the 9,000 people that just got laid off, the studio closures, the abandonment of first party hardware, the move to third party publishing, the awful bouts of mismanagement and poor marketing & communication, etc... etc..

Xbox today is better in many ways but also worse in many ways.

They weren't doing layoffs like this back then because their studio list was a skeleton crew.

As a gamer, Xbox is much better today in the area where it matters: games. Yes, job wise and risk wise etc, it's worse now but that's true all across the industry.

You may say it's true across the industry, but no one has performed the amount of studio closures, lay offs, game cancellations, critical flops, and sales flops anywhere near the extent that Microsoft has with Xbox.

For them to be 12 years away from the Xbox One launch disaster and still be having so many catastrophic problems is just insane for a company of this size.

Size doesn't really matter, you have to put out a product a lot of people want and MS has just failed to do that consistently. You reference the Xbone launch but their mismanagement started years before that with the home stretch for the Xbox 360. They abandoned core gamers and focused almost entirely on Kinect garbage. I used to think this was overblown but if you go back and look at the games and the bundles, it's clear as day.

At the end of the day they are a games division that failed for too long at games. The initiative they had leading into this gen is one they should have took a generation earlier.

I don't know where they "rank" in terms of layoffs or games that don't sell as much as GAF thinks they should but I wouldn't be surprised if they lead or are near the top of both. They have more devs than most publishers and release a lot of games.

All jokes aside - of which I've made plenty this morning - OP has already shown they have more than three franchises. Just adding "flop" to the end of the things when we don't actually know doesn't suddenly turn games like Diablo IV into some kind of whiff. And even then, I'd argue that Xbox hasn't "had" Halo since 343i took over and burned it to the fucking ground.

  • South of Midnight was a flop
  • Everwild has been cancelled and Rare has been downsized
  • Perfect Dark has been cancelled and the Initiative has been closed
  • Hellblade II was a flop
  • Avowed was a near-flop
  • Fable looks like it's in development hell
  • Redfall was a flop
  • Hi-Fi Rush was a flop and Tango Gameworks was shuttered
  • It's been absolute crickets on OD after it was revealed 3 years ago
  • State of Decay 3 was announced 5 years ago and we haven't heard a peep since
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages was a flop
  • Diablo IV was a disappointment

So we have... a new Forza that Phil hinted at last month, a new Halo that has been hinted to be announced in October, Gears of War: Reloaded, Gear of War: E-Day.... what else?

Is that it? All this shit over the last 10+ years just to circle all the way back to "Xbox only has Halo, Gears, and Forza"?

Hey Troll, you missed out Minecraft,....

Just because they bought activision and blizzard doesn't mean their own studios get better. Among the whole group, there has to be an occasional hit, but Activision and Bethesda put out a lot of mediocre games.

No, because Halo is circling death, and the next gears is doing the back to basics album next. Forza is still going, though the formula for Horizon might need more of a revamp.

They also have a roster of IP through acquisitions they are releasing, including CoD, but since they're keeping it multi-plat it probably doesn't feel attached to Microsoft's brand for people.

I think games like Clockwork Revolution, and other smaller stuff in Game Pass will really determine how successful Microsoft is in future.
