So did anyone else buy a DS this week?

Frankly, I was hoping that I could get through life without one, but Advance Wars DS was just too much to resist. I picked it up along with the system at Best Buy today.

Note: I had to get one of the employees to go into the back to get AW: DS--it wasn't on shelves, and a special Nintendo DS kiosk sitting in the middle of an aisle was completely empty. Three employees had to debate for a while in order to decide whether they could get the game for me--finally one of them said, "Well, it doesn't come out until tomorrow, but that's not, like, an official thing--if someone shows up and he wants it, we should go in the back and get it." Remember that, folks.

Note 2: another employee lied through his teeth to try to get me to buy a "product replacement plan." "Nintendo's DS warranty is eight months," he actually said, "and if something goes wrong with it you have to pay to mail it back yourself." When I said I didn't want the plan he sighed and threw up his arms and said, "OKAY, THEN--I'M JUST DOING MY JOB. OKAY, THEN." Then he started going on about some Reward Zone nonsense that would involve me spending $300 at Best Buy before I broke even.

So now I have this clunky hunk of a handheld charging up so that I can play AW this evening. Winter '05 had better kick ass for this thing, because right now I'm not seeing too much else on shelves besides AW to prevent me from feeling buyer's remorse. Nintendogs, maybe? Should I join the non-gamer revolution? What else on this system is worth a damn?

I thought about it, but I stopped myself.

I think i'm just not a handheld gamer, i got barely any use out of my PSP and GBASP.

Check out Super Mario 64 DS (if you haven't played the 64 game yet), Kirby: Canvas Curse (brilliant use of the touch screen and a full-blown game), Meteos (on par with Lumines and up there with Tetris Attack as a puzzle great). I also suggest Bomberman if you have friends with DSs.

Sometimes I get the urge to buy one for some of the upcoming games but then I realize my money is for console gaming so no can do.

I played the hell out of Super Mario 64 back on N64, so much so that I'd be happy never to see that game again (as much as I liked it back then).

On the other hand, this talk of Meteos interests me (I haven't played a good, addictive puzzler in a long time, not since Bombastic). Kirby too, possibly. Maybe this cumbersome electronic device is a thing I can learn to love.

P.S. No complaint about the color from me--I got Electric Blue and I'm happy with it.

My brother did. His electric blue DS pwns my puny silver one :-(

I got Advance Wars today, and it's so much fun. Making fun of my brother for buying a DS for Nintendogs is even more fun though :lol

I bought a DS+Meteos last week from Circuit City.

This week I will go back and get 110% of the price drop back. Woohoo, that makes it like 2 dollars cheaper than waiting a week for the actual drop.

My plan with the DS was to either wait for a price drop, or for Advance Wars to come out, luckily both happened at the same time.

I couldn't resist with the price drop. I was going to buy it when Yoshi's Touch and Go came out, then Kirby Canvas Curse and Meteos... The price drop, coupled with my desire to play Kirby, Advance Wars, Metoes, and Nostray and such titles to look forward to as Lunar Dragon, Castlevania, Mario Kart DS, Mario and Luigi 2, Sonic Rush and Animal Crossing, just was too much to resist further. Add to this the fact that 2 of my friends already own one and the potential for multiplayer action, why not buy one?

I have the graphite black DS, it decreases the uglitude and perceived bulkiness of the DS substantially. Even my most ardent DS-hating friends will grudgingly admit that it is pretty slick.

No.

First, $129 is a crap price drop. Secondly, my fundage is going to 360 this year. Third, I don't feel the need to buy another portable any time soon after buying PSP in March.

a couple people i know bit the bullet for the pricedrop + advance wars combo to go

one friend is still on the fence and he's the biggest AW lover of us all, he'll jump soon

Get Meteos. I have been a gamer since the NES days but Meteos is the first puzzle game I have ever bought and im so glad I did. I was a bit dissapointed at first but once I got to grips with it I started to sink countless hours into it. (roughly twice as many hours as Kirby)

Kirbys great too but I would rather have Nintendogs I think.

I purchased a white DS last week with Jump Super Stars, Ouendan, and got Meteos used a little ago too.

I bought the system for Castlevania Dawn of Souls, and so far, I think that's really going to be the only game I end up really playing. JSS isn't doing much for me, and Meteos is entertaining, but I'd rather just play something like Tetris or Lumines...Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo on GBA is still my favorite portable puzzle game. Can't say much about Ouendan yet; need to play more, but music is a big part of this game and I'm not a big fan of the soundtrack I've heard so far. Guitar Man this is not.

Right now I'm planning on getting (and LOVING) Castlevania tomorrow. I'll play the crap out of it, and then the DS will likely be put away and I'll get a GB Micro instead. There's still a fair amount of GBA games I want to play.

Yep, mine came in today along with SM64, Meteos and Kirby Canvas Curse. I will be getting Nintendogs and Nanostray tomorrow.

Waiting for a black ds to come out.

How long did it take for Nintendo to release a black SP in north america?

I don't know but they're releasing the Black Micro and Silver Micro next month here.

They know we want Black. It's half the reason why PSP was so "sexy" and matches with a lot of our other electronics.

Just ya'll wait...

When The Wi-Fi connection launches, and we're all having all these threads about how we're all racing eachother in Mario Kart and all deathmatching in Prime Hunters, and we're keeping score and tallying up who is the best..... and having tournments.... and bragging and bickering - ALL WHILE STILL LOGGED IN TO GAF - you will all succumb.

Amazon.com/toysurus is selling the DS for 129.99 with Spiderman 2 and a starter kit. Good deal, even if you just sell off spiderman 2 and the crap accessories.

If I found I just couldn't live without handheld gaming goodness, I would purchase the Gameboy Player for my Cube.
