I jumped on a promotion from Kungaloosh tea I saw on deals.woot a while back, ~200 bags of various types of tea for $20, and I'm still going through that. Once that's out I'll probably order two 6-packs of the Good Earth. mmmmm
One of the best bagged teas available for sure. Good choice.

I'll second David's Tea for premier IRL tea retailer. Kenyan Tinderet is an excellent black tea, very strong but very smooth.

I get my tea custom blended for me. I think I mentioned it in the last tea thread. This tea "expert" asked me a bunch of questions about me and what kind of stuff I liked, then created a blend just for me. What sold me is that some tea reviewer had it done and claimed it was the most perfect tea she had ever tasted.

http://teaguru.blogspot.com/

The chick blogs about tea for herself and some other websites. She's pretty cool, and not very expensive. I've been buying commercial tea for ages, and loose tea from Chinese supermarkets when I want some green tea, but this stuff is just a whole different experience.

I love tea. But I have a secret pleasure for brisk raspberry iced tea. It's sweet as hell and pretty much more sugar than tea but I love it! :lol

Surprised nobody has posted Matcha (green tea powder) yet. By far the best tasting and healthy tea I have ever had. Almost like a frothy latte if made right, but super expensive!

What’s good about green tea in general is its ubiquitous bioflavonoid content. Bioflavonoids or simply flavonoids, are phytochemical compounds which have antioxidant benefits. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and catechins are two of the main bioflavonoids found in green tea.

University of Colorado researchers determined the amount of catechins and EGCG found in matcha green tea and compared it with other varieties including Chinese green tea. Results indicated that the concentration of EGCG available from drinking matcha is 137 times greater than the amount of EGCG available from China Green Tips green tea, and at least three times higher than the largest literature value for other green teas.

Matcha, unlike regular green tea sold in health food stores, comes in a fine powdered form that you only need roughly a teaspoon for every serving. It is also not a stranger to most desserts. It is used as an added color and flavor to pastries, cakes and pies. Although Matcha is generally more expensive than other forms of tea, the health benefits are worth every penny

Is there a good, inexpensive place to get these teas? My mom would appreciate it.

depends on the tea.

i buy all my teas from asian food markets.... this can be a good or bad thing. some asian food markets charge really high, because they know they can. others charge very little because they want loyal customers who know their prices.

if you do go to an asian food market (assuming your city has one, most do). just find an employee and ask for a recommendation. i did this a few times and found a couple teas that i really love quite a bit.

On a daily basis, Tieguanyin (铁观音). But I also like a glass of HK milk tea (hot or cold whatever) when available, or any mixed drink with brewed tea in ^^'

That looks good

I like almost any tea that isn't heavy on the fruit - I find it gives the tea a harsh, often sour taste.

Various flavoured rooibos teas are probably my favourite - vanilla or a light berry are nice. And orange pekoe everyday, mostly because it's nice and neutral in flavour.

A good gunpowder green tea is nice too, but many of them are exceedingly bitter as fresh are hard to come by.

I'm normally not much of a tea drinker, but for a time last year I was totally hooked on Twinings Earl Grey with honey along with crackers with brie topped with chopped hazelnuts. I had that a couple of times a week and only stopped because I'm fat enough as it is.

I found Twinings Earl Grey to be much better tasting than Lipton's. It's too bad that you can't seem to find most of the stuff posted here where I live, because I'd like to experiment some.

Im a heavy Tea drinker, nothing like a nice cuppa after a meal.

My favourite is traditional english tea, though, after oily meal, i tend to favor chinese green tea. I also like milk tea that my parents make on special occasions.

For all the south asians here, how do you translate 'Cava' into English? Its a brew of tea, spices and sticks of cinnamon. Its an Arabian/Indian brew I think. Anyway, its amazing.

I've had milk tea once and will never have it again. Those tapioca balls are vile.

I'm convinced that people who hate bubble tea have never tried it at a genuine Taiwanese tea house. I've tried some of the imitation bubble tea around the country and they're god awful. SoCal or NorCal are the only places I know of that have the good stuff. Anywhere else, chances are you're getting some nasty crap. Sad thing is these places are ruining the reputation of the drink.

Alright TeaGAF, I am currently running low (very low) on tea
I actually only have about 1 serving of some Rooibos from Adagio left :(
. Anyone got some recommendations? Suggest anything, I'm open to new ideas, but please loose leaf only. Links to online retailers would be best.

I'd strongly recommend Yerba Mate (especially from http://www.matefactor.com, though their server appears to be on the fritz at the moment). Go for some fresh green mate, and brew like any other tea. It is especially delicious iced and mixed with lemonade.

Think of it as a sort of counterpart to rooibos. Rooibos is from South Africa; Yerba Mate is from South America. Rooibos is caffeine free; Mate is as caffeinated as coffee. The two even taste great mixed together!

Just to add to this if its a Chinese food market in NYC don't pay full price for what you see, I would say 50% the items they sell can be bargained at a lower price and tea is often marked up more then it is valued. If you see they are selling a tin can of tea for like $10 say you want want to pay 6-7 they will often give it to you.

My favorite tea has got to be Turkish tea. Whenever I go to my Turkish friends' house, they brew and drink it nonstop. They can crash five minutes after their last cup, but I always go home wired.

One thing I found interesting is that -- while the tea brand/quality matters -- you can still make a damn good cup with nothing fancier than Lipton loose tea. When my friends don't have Turkish tea on-hand, that's what they use. The key is in the preparation. (I also love the Turkish tea glasses.)

Here's how to brew it:

I drink Darjeeling tea about a couple of cups a day. Shit is pretty damn good.

At evenings I usually drink some white tea, makes me more relaxed. I prefer white tea to green tea a lot, I just think it tastes a lot better.

I'm currently working on a tea blog, primarily targeted as a no-bullshit guide to tea. Are there any questions or thoughts you'd like answered? I've already covered what constitutes a "teaspoon," a "cup," and what "tea" is.

They look really pretty, but it just seems like you're paying 4x the price just so it flowers like that. not really worth it, imo.

I love tea, all kinds, aside from sweetened/artifical stuff i.e. Brisk.

Thai ice tea, bubble tea (taro flavor is the best!), apple cinnamon rooibos, white tea, jasmine, masala chai, and of course green tea (I drink 2 cups a day)

Currently enojying this. Green tea with fruits and other stuff I wouldn't even recognize. Good though. The taste is pretty mild and subtle, but I like it.

My 'usual' cup is ~400ml, which equates to 13.5oz.

Basically I'll put on a pot of tea and drink the whole thing, getting 3 - 4 cups out of it, then do it again later, and always have one when my housemates are having one. Thrown in some green or whatever else is going on.

20 is probably an exageration, and it would be closer to 10 most days. Some days I go crazy.

I bought it at a Marchall's once and it's delicious. But it's mostly in French and I can't read any of it. Just curious if anyone's ever heard of it.

I really love Ginger Tea, followed by Milk Tea with some Spice (don't want to call it Chai tea), green tea and sometimes Oolong.

I drink Twinnings everyday tea normally, but when I'm feeling a bit of special time coming on, I brew up some Ringtons Tea. they used to have a shop here in brighton, but it closed down about a year and a half ago now, which almost made me cry. they still sell on the web though, here.

Their Darjeeling First Flush tea is absolutely amazing, but really pricey. It is also tricky to get hold of. Any of their Darjeeling is amazing though. I highly reccomend it, not sure if they ship outside the UK though.
