So has anyone tried Google Duplex - Live Now - Thoughts?

The original demonstration floored me, you know what they were implying (without actually saying anything) when showing this off.

"Google Duplex is a new project from Google that is currently live in the majority of the US. It allows certain users to make a restaurant reservation by phone. However, instead of the user speaking directly to the restaurant employee, Google Duplex, with the help of Google Assistant, speaks for the user. It does this with an AI-based, but human-sounding, voice. It’s also being used to speed up paying for movie tickets online.

In this article, we will go into more detail on what Google Duplex is. We will also tell you where it is currently live, and what devices work with this service. Finally, we will tell you how to use Google Duplex to make a restaurant reservation or to pay for a movie ticket."

Sounds amazingly pointless so far.
Give google more of your information so they can save you from talking to a person.

Nuanced, intricate - machine driven human language - like was demo'd at iO18 seemingly at the level of sentience at least in conversational aptitude is nothing to scoff at.

Unfortunately there are no examples of this service being used outside of Googles own.

Nice, but wrong direction.
You need a bot that will read all the online crap (facebook, gmail, etc.) and present it to you in a concise manner without ads.
In writing, obviously.

Well perhaps if we all express how upsetting it is that we can not actually u

Google Assistant already transcribes very well, there is that - eventually once they pass this testing phase Duplex will prove far more use cases to the consumer than making calls - which is a very narrow task I'm sure is underway just as a large beta test. Hopefully they'll use that information and quickly release a more robust variant.
