So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

I bet I could walk to a store here in Portugal and pick up one if I had the money), I should check that out of curiosity when I go grocery shopping monday.

I remember when I bought the WiiU, peeps online were saying it was sold out everywhere and I just walked into the place and they had a ton and I was the only one buying one >_>

Thats not a slight on the WiiU, just not many people here rush to buy videogame systems I guess, what with the shit economy thats been dragging for years (and which now I suffer from aswell lol)

It's been a week

Well the ones that retailers had in the back were sitting there for a couple of weeks before launch. They haven't shipped more to retailers. It should be a constant stream coming in weekly if their production lines are up and running continuously.

Seems like Nintendo is dropping the ball with restocks. They haven't shipped any more to retailers since before launch.

The units in stores for launch were manufactured months ago. The mid april estimation for deliveries is peculiar.

Yep. In theory all of the units were done a while ago and then just shipped out when launch time came.

It's been way more than a week in terms of when the initial stock was produced so you'd think Nintendo would have a other couple weeks worth of production done and ready to go.

Obviously the Nov stuff is basically bullshit, and even that April timeframe could be a guess. Bigger issue is retailers just don't know and Nintendo has said jack shit on this front.

They a happy to tout launch sales, but mums the word on future stock.

Given i cant seem to go 2 hours without seeing some kind of mario kart 8 ad here in the UK it's fair to say there's going to be a big restock in April

Quick question guys, will I buy able to be a U.S. charger and copy of Zelda at say Best Buy?

Now the struggle to get refunded my shipping cost continues~

(1) As far as a Best Buy local retailer, you are much more likely to find a universal power plug/adapter (a cheap plug adapter that changes the EU plug shape to match the NA plug shape) than to find an official Nintendo AC adapter. Either one should work to get power to your device. You would be better off buying the plug adapter or the AC adapter from Amazon than from local retailers.

(2) BotW for Switch seems decently in stock at Best Buy retail locations, but of course it will depend on your locale. If you have Amazon prime you can buy it for $48 now, so I would suggest that rather than trying to find it at local retail if possible. Even if you can't find it at local retail anywhere you can buy it on the eshop.

(3) Good luck on the shipping refund. Amazon has been overwhelmingly a positive customer service experience for me over a 14 year relationship spending 5-10K+ per year, but trying to get them to compensate me directly for shipping/delivery delays has been by far the least successful effort over that time period. The most consistent win you're likely to get from Amazon for a botched delivery date is an extension of your amazon prime membership, and that isn't relevant for a one-time purchase from another region. Amazon.es doesn't really have any incentive to make you joyously happy since you're not a regular customer and it's very unlikely you'll ever spend money there again, so if I were you I wouldn't expect too much. That being said, if you're the kind of person with the fortitude to raise a digital ruckus for long enough then who knows.

The Walmart app and BrickSeek both say that my local walmart has stock (9, according to brick seek) and an employee checked the app on her phone too then went to look for it and the manager came back saying that the app is lying and that they have none.

I call bullshit. I hate Walmart and wish target got some in stock

They had plenty of accessories though, excluding the pro controller.

It's not their system not updating, it's the fact that those are layaway/pre-orders which Walmart is obligated to hold until April 1st unless the buyer cancels themselves. Basically, the only reason to believe that walmart has stock at this point is if you're watching the values and see them increase from previous, meaning they got new stock in from shipment/returns. Unfortunately I couldn't find any kind of history functionality in brickseek and I'm too lazy to write things down manually. So yeah, there's no evil conspiracy and walmart employees aren't necessarily incompetent or lazy, they just can't sell you stock that has been preordered/layaway'd and they have an absurdly long hold policy.

Edit: The real douchebags in this situation are not walmart employees, they're the people who preordered half a dozen systems and are letting them sit at retailers to see if they become rare enough to go through the effort of flipping. And if you look around GAF/reddit/etc you'll see a huge amount of people openly admitting to doing so in the same threads where everyone else is struggling to find one to purchase.

Walmart employees aren't out to screw you out of your Switch. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at preorder/lawaway scalpers and Nintendo for not providing enough restock after launch.

It's sold ut in every store in Sweden more or less. Except the real rural ones (last time i checked, Probably gone now though). I think there might be some online but even that's a lottery.

Their system is stupid and shows preorders

Didnt know I would get a discount from Prime, just ordered.

Just feels like amazon.es scammed me out of 40€ when they fucked up my order and didnt get it shipped for 2 days....

I hope it is not April. Persona is out then so my hype will proabably have died down enough by then to just pass on Switch altogether for now.

have we had reports from folks in Mexico? I was there last weekend, went to a shopping mall on Sunday and there were switches in every store I went, readily available and people not rushing in to buy them.

that being said, mexicans are very likely boycotting the console because of the extra ~$150 bucks they have to pay compared to our northern neighbours

Is this Wii all over again?

Depends.

As a home console, it will be more like a N64, console with little third party support with insane exclusives that is a perfect companion to a Playstiation home console, that will be a moderate success for nintendo.

As a handheld, it will be higher than 3DS but lower than DS, assuming it fully replaces 3DS, (including similar price tags and software library)

So thirty million plus more than fifty million is definitely a Wii situation.

I'm pretty sure I saw some last time I was at the nearby mediamarkt, I guess I'll check it on monday if I have time after school.

(Though I'm in a rural area so...)

Any word on when retailers will be getting more Pro controllers in stock? Everything online and in store around me is sold out still :*(

Toys R Us in Canada seem to have gotten a restock yesterday (March 10), although they sold through pretty quickly. I sent my girlfriend to TRU while she was in the city yesterday, and they apparently just sold out around 2 or 3 pm. There was stock sitting on shelves in certain stores throughout the country yesterday. I imagine most, if not all of it, has been sold by now.

So they're sending out units it seems. Probably not a huge amount though.

Anyone know what the stock status is in Tokyo/Kyoto? I'll be visiting in April and was wondering if I should pick one up from there. The games are region free so it doesn't matter where I buy it right? Or will the OS be in Japanese only?

Today Bic Camera locations in Tokyo had a lottery for about 20-30 units per store. 9 am to get into the lottery and then results announced at 11 am, lol. I will wait until there is a steady supply, but who knows when that will be

The first week sell through in Japan is the highest in a long time at 94%. Essentially completely sold out. I would imagine the situation will be better by April, but closer to Mario Kart it may start selling out again.

Did anyone seriously expected Nintendo to do even a mediocre job at restocking the inventory? Come on, the situation with barely any stock coming in should be fairly obvious.

They said 2 million units worldwide for March. Most of those have been likley sold so for the next few month we will see a drip of consoles coming in. Then Nintendo will flood the stores, stock will sit on the shelves, they will get spooked and when the system again sells out during the holidays NoJ will be "blindsided". Welcome to one of the worst companies in the business at gauging demand for their products and handling inventory.

Score!

Bic Camera Kyoto Station was selling Switch today by lottery. I grabbed a ticket, came back at 12 for the drawing, and didn't get picked. Was a little bummed, but not a big deal. There was about a hundred people in line for tickets at 9 AM (we were numbers 58 and 59) and they only got 18 systems.

My wife and I went to lunch nearby in the food court at Yodobashi Camera. After lunch, she asked if I wanted to check there. I figured that there was no chance in hell, but it's fun to look so I stopped by anyways.

They had them! I was just in time to get one of the last grey ones. They were out of Zelda, but Bic had a bunch of those, so I'll go grab it tomorrow. Did get Puyo Puyo Tetris though and I Am Setsuna.

Stock is still very bad in Japan. In a small where I'm currently at there is no Switch to be found. YouMe, Aeon and Yamada Denki don't have any and they don't know when they will get a new shipment. A few Bic Camera in Kagoshima also don't have it.

It seems like the best course of action in the US is to just randomly walk into stores? April isn't that far off, but at the same time I don't trust Nintendo when it comes to stocking.

Worten run out of stock but they had a great deal of Switch + Zelda for 339€.

Is this Wii all over again?

I really doubt it will be like that. I'd be surprised if the Switch + Zelda, or just the Switch in general could match length of time and demand that the Wii hysteria created.

I think a bit of this situation is that Nintendo wasn't prepared for this Zelda hype that happened in the days after launch.

But I expect the Switch to be widely available by the time Mario Kart 8 Deluxe releases in April, if not a few weeks before then.

Sounds that way. Target, Bestbuy, Walmart etc. I haven't seen many people report on the big club stores like Costco, BJ's, Sams Club. On launch day I had someone check Costco while they were there for a pro controller but they didn't see anything Switch related.

My mind is blanking a bit, but I feel like Wii-hype went on for a few months. I think it had a lot to do with the Wii shipping before the holidays though.

If they are there they are likely being held for Sunday. Or they are store pickups that havnt been picked up yet.

I'm sorry but that seems really unacceptable. The Switch launched at the beginning of March. Retailers shouldn't have to wait a month and a half to get more stock in.

Did Nintendo only produce enough for launch and then sit around and wait to see how it would go before starting to produce more? Ridiculous.

A lot of my stores are starting to restock on BOTW Amiibos and accessories here in western Ohio. I was finally able to grab a screen protector yesterday. Still no actual Switch consoles though.

Is this Wii all over again?

Probably not, but it sure as hell not a Wii U thankfully.

My brother, who is a lapsed Nintendo fan, got one and loves it.

I think Nintendo will be fine with the Switch. It also solves their biggest issue--dividing their dev teams.

Wasn't trying to imply it's acceptable.

I will believe this when I see it.

So far, nintendo keeps announcing separate Switch and 3DS games into 2017, so I will believe it in 2018 the earliest.

EDIT: Oh I see you made a spin-off thread of your post. let me put it there.

Wasn't trying to imply it's acceptable.

I know. I was just venting about these stock issues that seem to happen with every hardware launch, and how it still happens despite all the previous hardware launches these companies of gone through at this point.

I remember when console release days were fun. You could just walk in a store at any time during launch day and pick up a console and a game. No lines, no camping the night before and no having to be awake at 3am months before launch hitting F5 to get a preorder.

I did this with SNES, N64 and Gamecube despite Nintendo warning of limited stock at launch. Walked into a store, and there was still ample supplies.

Scalpers and inept production planning have changed all that, so getting a console launch is now always a frustrating and sometimes worrisome experience.

And I'm saying that, as someone who preordered a Switch back in January and got it on launch day.
