So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

It's almost like Nintendo wasn't sure how people would react and accept the new console. Like maybe they were erring on the side of caution considering the WiiU debacle and didn't want to risk losing money on unsold stock again. They made 2 million for launch and took a wait and see approach.

Had they made a batch of 10 million and it tanked you would all be laughing at how stupid Nintendo is for not learning from their mistakes. Either way they can't win.

And this is in no way comparable to the NES mini because anyone with a lick of sense could see that was just a holiday novelty to make some easy cash and never meant for anything more.

Nah they just have limited stock from a rushed production run to meet the Financial Quarter. Stock will most likely trickle in and out up until October/November with a hard launch alongside Mario.

I think they knew they had a good product, they just have to play it safe with manufacturing, considering their history.

Ordered one from gamestop yesterday. Will be here Monday.

The bundle? Or how did you manage that?

And to be fair, I suspect it's difficult to gauge sales when you have scalpers like rhettbone or whatever her name is.

What about preorders? Switch preorders opened on Jan 13 and I understand retailers were reporting there were a lot all around. Surely that should be enough to tell Nintendo that they are going to have to ramp up production up through launch day so they can restock stores quickly.

Scalpers can preorder too though. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think they should produce more. Hell, I can't find one. I just think sales to scalpers can make it difficult to gauge interest.

That's true. I'm curious to see if Switches start trickling back into stores due to scalper returns. IIRC, the WiiU was sold out after the first couple of days and then a week or two later they started returning to stores after they weren't selling for scalpers.

Retailers could go a long way to curbing scalpers by shortening the return window and charging restock fees on items like consoles.

How was PS4 launch in comparison? What about the PS2? Any of the iphones? I was under the impression that shortages are typical for any semi successful hardware launch. I'm sure people can wait a week or two.

Bit the bullet and ordered from Amazon Spain. They say it should be here on the 22nd. I don't really want to wait that long, but I don't anticipate anything being available in my area before then anyway. If I happen to see something locally, I can just cancel anyway.

For those of you in the US that ordered from a foreign Amazon site, did you have an international service fee on the transaction? My bank said there might be one.

I've "preordered".

There was 20% off at very.co.uk but the estimated release is the end of April.

I'm fine with waiting as I'm on holiday for 2 of those weeks but it'd be interesting to see if thus thing comes sooner.

Difference being that other companies actually restock their products. Even the 3ds is still hard to find in my area post holidays.

I have no faith in securing a Switch for quite a while (which works out, there needs to be software anyway).

How accurate is brickseak? It tells me there are 10 here and 20 there. Located at walmarts in the Portland metropolitan area. What's gafs consensus?

for my amazon.es bros, I have no updates. It still says "expected delivery March 15th" but I haven't received any tracking info. It's been like that for more than 24 hours now.

The numbers on brickseek for my area have not changed at all since last weekend. Seems very inaccurate.

Went to go look for one for my niece in Rhode Island.

(The one I pre-ordered for her as a gift from Amazon still hasn't shown up smh, I'd give her mine but then I'd have to start over on Zelda)

Checked about 20 stores, all I found were employees who were fucking pissed off I bothered asking nicely.

I know retail sucks but no reason to snap at me just for walking around the electronics section for 45 seconds looking to see if you have any or because I had the gall to ask "Do you have any Nintendo Switch's still?"

Mine has said "it was sent today" since yesterday, but I don't expect it to update until Monday which is probably when it will be scanned in the US. Mine still has an estimated delivery date of 14/15th.

Considering picking one up from a reseller for $380, I guess with tax out of the equation it's not so bad. Has a gift receipt too

Going to check this afternoon in my area, but I already know the answer.

Meanwhile, the same 122 are sitting in our local Craiglist ever since release...and they aren't moving. I'm not paying someone $100 over the retail price (which is already $50 too high, in my opinion), and it looks like I'm not alone. It will be interesting to see what happens with that supply in the coming weeks. I'm guessing they'll be returned and instantly sold to people who actually want to play the damn thing.

You realize people sell things on Craigslist but leave the posting up?

Just came back from one of the biggest malls in my country and is sold out even tho the retail price is $520, A store selling it for $560 still had 6 units and a Zelda Master edition for $135 tho

Yeah I can't stand this. Just say yes or no. Ive been checking around Targets and Best Buys trying to find an NES Classic, and usually when I ask I get an eyeroll and a lecture about how they sell out almost instantly.

I know that dude. I'm just asking, sorry I took up 3 seconds of your day

I didn't, never used it before. In fairness, a couple postings were marked as sold by the posters. Not sure why you'd leave it up there if not, unless you enjoyed texts and calls from strangers.

Yeah strangely enough even I do it lol. Once it's old enough you stop getting messages lol.

Ugh, I'm on the edge to overpay. I'm going to have more time to play games next week than I probably will for quite a while. No luck finding any in N Houston.

I'm having the exact experience looking for one with/for my friend. Target employees don't even look at us in the eyes half in the time, and Best Buy literally hanged up on us after they explained to us that they refuse to give numbers over the phone. He really wants one, so we drove the eight miles to the Best Buy just to be told the obvious; "we don't have any". Very lame.

The worst part of all, I had a switch that I ended up selling (at cost, no scalping) that I could have given to him for retail cost. I feel like scalpers are the only people buying the consoles and the few people who actually want it are being screwed. The scalpers sell for practically no profit in a congested market and the gamers are left with nothing to play. It's a sad situation.

.

This is a big reason why basically the ONLY things I buy offline are gas/produce/meat.

It's not like I'm banging on the door an hour before you open demanding you sell me something you don't have.

I worked retail for a minute to yeah it sucks, but someone asking you an easy question isn't why you're getting paid shit/the job sucks etc.

Yes, he's firing everyone. That doesn't change the fact that firing a guy who's investigating you has pretty much the worst optics available in politics outside of a sex scandal.

Except the current admin is so incompetent/behind they don't actually have replacements lined up at all.

They just want to cripple the justice department in any form that isn't directly in the hands of Sessions.

Coworker said she was able to get one of the 60 Switches that were at her local Target no problem. Stood in line for 15 minutes and was in and out.

Ohh my. Yeah. That's been my experience too. Lucky I got one.

All the Walmart brickseek numbers are basically preordered ones being held. Rumor is they hold them until 4/1

Yup every Walmart near me shows 10-25 "in stock" on Brickseek, well one says -5

Calling the stores might be even worse.

"Que 5 minute story about how you sold out day 1 and don't check back until Christmas time"

Ok sure I bet you won't have any Switches in fucking Walmart for 6+ months.

Even Nintendo's garbage toy inspired stocking strategies aren't that insane.

Just checked 5 or so stores in Pittsburgh. Nothing!

Feeling like my best chance at this point is a GAFer selling at cost plus shipping. Unless I want to wait a few months.

Amazon.es is still a good option, guys. You won't pay over retail + typical sales tax, even with the fastest shipping option. It's backordered right now, but has an estimated delivery date of March 22. Don't reward a scalper, you can wait a week and a half.

What's Amazon.es?
