It's almost like Nintendo wasn't sure how people would react and accept the new console. Like maybe they were erring on the side of caution considering the WiiU debacle and didn't want to risk losing money on unsold stock again. They made 2 million for launch and took a wait and see approach.
Had they made a batch of 10 million and it tanked you would all be laughing at how stupid Nintendo is for not learning from their mistakes. Either way they can't win.
And this is in no way comparable to the NES mini because anyone with a lick of sense could see that was just a holiday novelty to make some easy cash and never meant for anything more.
