So... how will videogame tournaments work on the xBone?

I'm personally thinking of fighting games but this applies to all videogame tournaments.

Let's say the venue has 50 systems and games to run them. Will we have to keep track of whose game is on which system and which profiles can run which games?

Also, for mulitgame tournaments where lets say, Street Fighter ends and we switch to Marvel, do we have to go through the whole process I described again?

Also, How are all those (required) kinects going to react in a room filled with other kinects, tons of people coming and going and talking....

There are a TON more issues that the xBone brings up for Tournaments Organizers and players themselves. I just wanted to get the ball rolling.

I can only see this being a huge disaster and a nightmare for all involved. god.. think of the time of signing into new profiles so you don't get charged for a game... it's going to slow things down considerably.

edit: I forgot about the internet issue as well. Let's say for travel time + set up it's more then 24 hours and the venue doesn't have very strong internet. I don't know just throwing something out there. Internet connection could be another issue. Will the Bones just not work.

Don't worry about selling a game to Gamestop. What about putting in an ad: "Used Xbox One for sale with 10 games". That's gonna be a rather bad deal for anyone.

Scan to verify that player 2 actually owns the game being played.

Scan the entire audience to see if they own the game.

Scan all of the stream monsters to adequately charge Spooky for viewers.

I was thinking about this too, if say EVO was using XBones, they'd have to put a label on each box noting whether it has sf5, marvel 4, kingoffighters29, or divekick champion edition. they'll probably have to tape up the kinect to make sure there are no accidents with voice inputs or gestures as well.

You forgot the part where they all have to be connected to the internet.

Short answer: They won't. Just another thing that MS screwed themselves out of when they decided to screw the consumer.

they'll just use PS4s.

I figured this would probably be the solution but I was just curious about the logistics of running an xBone tourney. It's not going to be fun.

Grand Finals of EVO... Justin Wong vs ChrisG...WAIT, HOLD ON GUYS, kinect scanned them and neither of them "own" this game.

I swear I read something somewhere that you can't block the camera like that. Not 100% on this tho

Everyone will have to have a copy of every game that will be played in the tournament, just like how MS and EA wants.

Also, Halo, Microsoft biggest franchise is going to be hurt by this unless MLG puts everyone in sound proof rooms to play so nobody can yell XBOX GO HOME.

Same with call of duty I guess.

That's assuming people still do CoD and Halo MLG of course, I really don't know.

Almost forgot that you'll need to bring the Kinect as well since it's mandatory. I'm not sure if there's a way to not have the kinect interfere all the time or not, but regardless, sounds like a hassle.

I'd guess the way the Starcraft 2 tournaments are run. Either the competitors log onto their own accounts which own the game, or the venue provides the accounts for the games they run tournaments on (so no hijinks ensue with known accounts).

tough call. I would leave it on current gen, then again you risk losing the installed base on next gen. Maybe just ps4 or an offline/tournament mode in game.

Well, assuming everything we've heard in the past couple of days is true, and that MS won't provide custom Xboxes so they won't have that problem (they will though), then I suppose they'll use PS4s, for FGC anyway.

Halo 4 is on the top, so one's to assume it's still MLG.

I don't see Halo 4 anywhere on that site. Maybe I'm just blind. But I though Virgin media now owns the tourney rights?

EDIT: Nevermind I see it, on the very top.

"Xbox, disable juggling."

You know that just gave me a really cool idea.

"Xbox, Create Team Slayer, 150% Gravity, Primary Weapon Battle Rifle, 120% movement speed."

Probably would never happen though but would be very very cool.

They will probably have tournament discs supplied or something with an infinite license.

oh man, more costs for the TOs huh? sad. I know some of these guys aren't rich and they aren't making tons of money doing running events. They do it for the love of the game and community. If MS is making it so it costs them even more, we could see a sharp decline in tournaments next gen. (for new games at least)
