Advice to people: don't host copywritten material on your webhost :(

Hello,

We have received a formal DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notice
regarding allegedly infringing content hosted on your site.

The party making the complaint (International Federation of the
Phonographic Industry), claims under penalty of perjury to be or
represent the copyright owner of these works. Pursuant to 17 U.S.C. §
512(c), we have removed the files in question.

Thankfully no further action has been taken since I removed the files quickly. It's weird though, I only shared the files with some friends, but I guess they couldn't be trusted and passed the link on to more and more people :( Although my bandwith details don't really show much high traffic so... I'm quite paranoid now.

You have no idea how much I was shitting it after reading the whole of the e-mail though.

HEED MY ADVICE PEOPLE.

They send these things out like candy. You'd have to be pretty up in their face and get a few more before they'd even consider suing you.

Then you shall feel the wrath of the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) slash International Federation of the Phonographic Industry!

I didn't even have the content up for a whole day, which is rather scary. They're watching. O_O

Really? The official-ness of it just sounded pretty scary I guess. I'm still curious as to how they found the content though. Ah well, still glad I'm not getting sued (which is when I started to worry after googling "International Federation of the Phonographic Industry)

Sounds to me like that's a letter from your webhost. They made the decision for you and removed the content. You were never at risk of being sued.

*edit* - wait, who removed the content - you or your webhost? Your story doesn't add up right now.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
What were you hosting?

And yeah, that is kinda scary that you got caught in less than a day.

It was an advance copy of an album that I wanted to share between some friends who like me are big fans of the band and have the album pre-ordered in stores, but yeah, it wasn't obviously labelled or anything which again makes it pretty worrying.

(By the way that's not all the e-mail, lawsuits and stuff were mentioned but maybe I wasn't in any real danger as you say, still, it's something to think about)

Did you misread it as the "International Federation of the Pornographic Industry"? :lol
No, but I might as well have. ;)

In the e-mail from my webhost, they said they would remove the content but it was still on my space when I checked so maybe they were waiting for me to respond or something first, or they were just going to remove it later in the day.

Happened when i copied the dogs fucking website to my own webspace. The company that made the original webspace phoned me and basically said remove all their stuff or feel our wrath. I was allowed to keep the pictures though and thus made $1047 :D

MrPing.. my aunt said she had seen something about dogs on Leno (I emailed them about it and provided a link to your space). If true, I wish I could've seen it :lol.

If you must insist on doing such things, yousendit/youshareit are better places as opposed to your provider.
