So... I just decided to buy a Gamecube...

Yeah, and when you get to the fun part, that's when the fun really begins.

Well, I meant doing stuff out of order and trying that kind of stuff. That's what I found fun. The normal order was really dull.

IOW I meant it had some nice replayability due to that. :)

I know who you are, and I know that you know your Metroid. But are you really saying you didn't enjoy the intended single-player route? Metroid is my favorite franchise, and I thought Prime was utterly awesome the first time through. It still gives me goosebumps in some places when I replay it. I know you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I just wanted to make sure I understood you.

I checked out your DQVIII FAQ by the way. It looks like it will be really comprehensive when you get done. Nice work.

I did not have a good time playing the game the first time through (I suck at 3d games). But because of who I talked to playing it through, I got into doing the weirdo stuff for the game, and that made playing through the 2nd/3rd time way more entertaining (I got more into it) those times through.

Now I have a blast with it even though I still stink at the game (2:03 100% with no saves).

Someday I'll get back to DQ8..finally going through that "Suikoden 2" thing.

On topic: Do you really need the first Monkey Ball if you're getting 2 (I've never played them)?

no metroids and pikmins and mario karts and smash bros and f-zeros makes you a bad man.

But good job anyway.

And yes, you need monkey ball 1 if you have 2 for its superior main game mode, which you should absolutely play through before touching 2.

Yeah...that's just...pathetic. :lol

I have never even attempted a speed run of any of them except for Zero Mission. I love replaying them, I'm just not nearly as hardcore as you guys (and gal). I used to be a regular lurker over at 2002 and I could not believe some of the stuff ya'll would do and the times you would get.

If you'll allow me to suck up just a bit more, your :55 SM is unbelievable, BTW.

I actually prefer the first Monkey Ball to the second.

Metroid Prime 1 & 2
Pikmin 2
Smash Bros
VJ 1 or 2 if you don't have them elsewise
FZero GX (people love it more than I do, but it certainly is quality)
Tales of Symphonia
Baiten Katos
Wind Waker
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Mario Kart Double Dash
And if you get double dash, and you have smash bros and Monkey Ball 2, then fill out the party fun with a Mario Tennis or Mario Party game. Maybe even Wario Ware.
Along the same lines Donkey Konga is fun with multiple players.
Bomberman Generation/Jetters (I prefer generations)
If you have a gameboy, Pacman World 2 + Vs could be more party fun
Rebel Strike
Beach Spikers
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. (Get this over SA DX, its the better of the two on GC and yet again you get the multiplayer options)
And Sonic Mega Collection didn't have sound problems for me on the GC version, but I don't know if its worth buying again just for that.
And I really like the Midway Arcade Treasure Collections
I would get PN 03 if you like shooters and can find it dirt ass cheap. Also, there's Ikuraga for shooter fun.
Oh and I forgot the horror stuff:
Eternal Darkness
REmake
RE4 <-- Only Resident Evil game I've ever bought. I rented or passed on the others because I never liked them enough. This one was good enough to shell out the moola for.

That's some of the Gamecube games I have. Despite all the hate it gets on these boards, the Gamecube has been one of my favorite consoles.

The only games I would question getting is The Simpsons and then paying $27 for Puyo Pop.

While you can, get yourself Punchout!! in Animal Crossing.

You seem to have gone from one extreme of the Gamecube line-up straight to the other. Get yourself Metroid Prime (1 or 2) andsome Viewtiful Joe (1 or 2) to fill in the middle. radioheadrule83 and etiolate both have good lists.

WTF did you buy a GC for? Man, I own a GC, but given the choice today, I wouldn't buy one. It was great when the Xbox and PS2 were $180, and the GC was almost half that. There was a real reason to get it then, and the software library was solid enough at the time. But now, outside of Zelda and RE4, what's on the map for 2005? And I haven't even played RE4 yet. :( My GC's sitting under a stack of VHS tapes. I don't even have my VCR hooked up anymore. I think Madden 2005 is still in there. Eternal Darkness only got 30 minutes put into it, Baldurs Gate II is almost unplayed, and Metroid Prime didn't even make it to the start screen. I keep it around for two reasons now. (a) Eventually, I will get to finishing those games. I'd feel completely stupid if I bought games that I never played. It might just take forever for me to get around to it. (b) Zelda will be well worth the wait, and will probably be the last game I buy for the GC before I inevitably trade it in for a PSP/PS3/Xbox2. PEACE.

P.S. You bought all that shit and no Wavebird? What the hell, that's like the best part of owning a GC besides Wind Waker.

yes, you need a wavebird.

you made a great choice getting REmake and RE0! both fantastic games.

you got a nice haul coming, enjoy. :D

You forget that buying a GCN now means having the entire backlog of 2001-2004. Certainly enough quality there.

And you never even played Metroid Prime? Your opinion = void.

EW! KILL THEM KILL THEM BEFORE THEY ARRIVE!

Anyway, if you ever get the chance pick up PIKMIN 2 and METROID PRIME because it owns your god damn soul.

You see, over at TTB we realized that Mister Ami here outright hates Animal Crossing.

Wavebird is a definite must.

Billy Hatcher is easily one of the most underrated games available on all three systems. People here can't handle it because it threatens their masculinity.

1) Pikmin 2 (not the first one, the second one, strategy/puzzle)
2) Animal Crossing (RPG/Simulation)
3) Metroid Prime (First person action/adventure)
4) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (action/adventure)
5) F-Zero GX (Futuristic racing)
6) Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Action/adventure)
7) Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (First person action/adventure)
8) Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (Platformer/rhythm action)
9) Resident Evil 4 (Survival horror action)
10) Super Smash Brothers Melee (Fighting/party)
11) Ikaruga (Traditional shooter)
12) Tales of Symphonia (RPG)
13) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Turn-based RPG)
14) Super Mario Sunshine (Platformer)
15) Baten Kaitos (Turn-based RPG)
16) Mario Power Tennis (Non-simulation sports)
17) Donkey Konga (Music)
18) Pikmin (Strategy/puzzle)
19) Wave Race: Blue Storm (Watersports)
20) Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2 (beat em' up)

Upcoming:

1) The Legend of Zelda
2) Fire Emblem
3) Killer 7
4) Donkey Konga 2: Hit Song Parade
5) Harvest Moon: Song of Happiness

Sorta off-topic, but goodcow, do you know of any Game Express stores that still exist? Was there just that one neat Penn Station, or are there others, maybe near where you live?

My Gamecube has been gathering dust for a year :\

Well this would be your fault and not the Gamecube's.

If you pass on the second highest rated game this generation (Resident Evil 4) then you must have a lot of dusty consoles.

What I didn't mention was I had logged a ton of hours on my friend's GC the year before that, playing MP. So when I finally bought it, I kinda shuffled it to the back of the pack since I'd played it the most of everything I had bought. Unfortunately, I haven't actually gotten around to playing it yet. PEACE.

can you please explain how the software library got worse...
Fewer games came out that were worth purchasing IMO. I bought most of my games by the end of Summer last year. A lot of them were old games, but PoP and Beyond Good and Evil were great, among others. The 3rd party support has only gotten worse, and the only new release I lust for is Zelda. PS2 and Xbox, in comparison, have had a ton of great games in the same span. Besides Nintendo games, there's just no good reason to own a GC these days. RE4 is but one game, and it will make its way to the PS2. Prior to buying my GC, the 3rd party's had not yet bailed on the system. I believe EA had just made their last Live game for the GC, and the purchase decision was easier to make then. PEACE.

I agree. I'm not sure how long Nintendo plans on coninuing Gamecube support, but the third party support is completely gone. And it's been pretty bad for the last year or so.

What note-worthy 3rd party games are coming this year? I can only think of Killer 7 and the usual EA sports titles. Anything else?

I don't care what it's rated. RE3 turned me off the series. It's not like the survival-horror genre was all the compelling to begin with. It was fresh on the PS1, before it was overkilled. I haven't bought RE4, and probably will never buy it. I don't expect to rent it either. But for what it's worth, I also despise the Silent Hill series too. Great ratings mean nothing in genres that have been rehashed a bazillion times. PEACE.

So the 100+ page thread here didn't hint at the fact that maybe RE4 wasn't a mere rehash?

I view Resident Evil 4 as more of an action game than a survival horror game.

when you buy gamecube, you're playin' alone!
milhouse1vx.gif

Yeah, playin' alone... with twenty million other people...

Anyway...

I'm surprised more people aren't suggesting Mario Golf. That game is fantastic! Got it when it came out and still play pretty regularly.

There's a lot of big, long lists that are really good so I won't sit here and repeat adnauseam but I'll also throw in a suggestion for GODD: DAMM and Super Smash Brothers Melee.

I suggest you wait for the PS2 version of RE4 because it will be the complete version. And really, it's not even a year away.

Gah, my bad. My sarcasm detector is broken. And yes, I read that thread. If you had also said your friends told you the GC version was choppy with lots of slowdown, I might have caught on... :lol

True that. Underrated soundtrack too. Best Sonic Team game since Sonic and Knuckles imo.

Good for you. But I wasn't responding to you....that's why I quoted someone else. :lol

If you don't want to get RE4 then that's great. Whatever helps you sleep better at night. But from reading what you wrote it sounds like you have to convince yourself that the game is something that it isn't so you have no desire to play it. If you bothered to even read anything of that huge RE4 thread you would instantly know that the game is nothing like the previous serious and that its the best in the series yet.

But that would require you actually buying the game or renting it and that's something you and a lot of other people seem deadset against. I mean why are you people afraid of this game? Are you afraid that your actually going to enjoy it? I mean you can't even shell out $5 to rent it but you'll probably go gaga over shit created by EA and be the first in line to shell out $50 for a game that just includes an updated roster. No "rehashes" for you. :lol

I honestly don't understand it even that Christian gaming review site liked RE4 so I don't get how anybody can't/won't like it. :/

you see, Pimpwerx, would be all over RE4 like divine brown on Hugh Grant's cock if RE4 were on xbox.

Your loss. Game of the Generation. Available now on GC and coming to PS2.

Lemme see here... Out of five, here's what I give each game you got.

2 ANIMAL CROSSING NGC
3 BILLY HATCHER & THE GIANT EGG NGC
5 MONKEY BALL 2 NGC
5 PAPER MARIO: THE THOUSAND-YEAR DOOR/NGC
4 PUYO POP FEVER NGC
4 RESIDENT EVIL NGC
4 RESIDENT EVIL ZERO NGC
3 SIMPSONS HIT & RUN NGC
5 SUPER MONKEY BALL NGC
5 GC Super Mario Sunshine

All in all, not bad. Not bad at all. Although I think you should've gotten Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Zelda: Wind Waker and F-Zero GX as well. :D

If you dont like the main Animal Crossing game, I suggest keeping it as its quite an elaborate NES complimation.

Its really funny people keep complaining that nintendo needs to make an NES complimation instead of re-releasing them on cards and cartridges

(okey, they did that already) But I'd still keep Animal Crossing for the NES games. Theres still quite a few Nintendo didnt re-release.
