So i ordered a 5060ti 16GB. Feel free to roast.

The base 5060 is truly a waste.....the 3060 and 2060 will be looked at positively in future, the 4060 and 5060 will be forgotten as the dark times.

The 16GB TI is a pretty solid buy.....it doesnt beat the 4070 and at ~500 dollars its a decent upgrade from the 3060Ti.
Skipping a generation is always the best way to upgrade, if you can, skip two.

performance-matchup-rtx-3060-ti.png

P.S A good upgrade should be about 30% gen on gen........so im skipping the 50s and wont get a 60 unless I get an uplift of atleast.......atleast 50%.
Since im upgrading from a non-ti 3060, these numbers should be a bit higher, yes?

I know it's not a great card but in my situation i don't think i could do any better. I don't like the Intel cards because of their bad legacy support and AMD doesn't have DLSS, which is something i would miss after the 3060. So i feel this was the best deal for me without breaking the bank but maybe PC GAF disagrees?
5060ti is a great card. Especially if you dont want to spend a fortune. Gratz!

3060 owner here as well, IMHO wait for 5070 super (18GB)

I also owned 3060 Ti and it was performing worse than 3060 12GB in a bunch of games due to running out of VRAM, that skewes comparisons

I won't be able to afford these though, even with the price cut from my friend's company. These will be what, 800 euros at least? With the cut and -200 euros from selling the 3060 i will need to pay at least 400 euros out of my pocket, which is way above my range.

Honestly if your not getting at least a 70 tier card i would just get a console instead
The PS5 pro is much more expensive, a bit weaker and i would have to retire my PC since i would still have to sell my 3060. I don't want to retire my PC, i have a ton of games in my backlog.

What i did now was basically trade my 3060 and 180 euros out of pocket for a 5060 ti. And i'm keeping my PC + Backlog.

Why his 60Ti would be faster/better than an XSX/PS5 and he would have access to DLSS and MFG.
With DLSS and MFG he would be able to get games at much higher visual quality too.
I dont believe theres any PT games on console.
And the game library is unmatched considering OP was already gaming on PC.

Here in Italy 5070 12 GB can found for 550 euros, only 100 euros more than 5060 Ti 16 GB. Last gen 4070 super came out with the same price as the base 4070, so hopefully 5070 super will also cost 550-600.

A bit weaker than a pro? Thats just not the reality.. maybe on paper but not in practice. I mean i guess if you incorporate frame gen. which imo is iffy

I didn't know you could build a PC with just a Video Card. Not like it needs a motherboard, ram, cpu, liquid coolers. ssds, power supply, or a case to match a $600 console.
Luckily he had all of that already. A PS5 Pro over the GPU would have been a poor choice. Both from a financial and performance standpoint.

4k dlss 4 performance would most likely look better than 4k pssr quality
i'd easily pick 5060ti 16 gb over ps5 pro
no reflex either
laggy games with vsync
most 60 fps games forcing the screen to run at 60hz
nah

people are too fixated on raw performance comparisons. they don't look at things like latency, image quality and so much more that adds insane value to NVIDIA GPUs

console games run at 90-100 ms latency at 60 fps and no one cares
5060ti can deliver 90 fps path tracing experience with 60-70 ms latency and it is unplayable for some reason

enjoy your GPU OP. that's a great GPU that will have insane longevity. have fun

DLSS vs PSSR the 60Ti will win every time.
not to mention they have a 1080p 240hz screen. multi frame generation would complement that screen incredibly well

DLSS 4 transformer model really saved 1080p gaming. it looks really sharp and clean with the quality mode. and having to upscale to 4K (like ps5 pro is doing) has an insane performance overhead. performance difference between 4k dlss performance and 1080p dlss quality is about 50%

so for someone like him who will keep using their high refresh rate 1080p screen, you do get a performance boost by being able to simply target 1080p. that's something consoles refuse to do as graphics modes are fixed. same goes for 1440p screens as well.

And cheaper games, and the ability to play with any peripheral you want depending on the type of game, and free online, modding etc...
When someone is used to the PC environment, going to console feels really limiting in comparison, depending on what you want to do.
And like you said, obviously the library. No generations, access to any games from any era with current resolution / refresh rates, no need for remasters etc...

Consoles are fine if someone is okay with what they offer, but when someone is on PC, it's usually for many other reasons than just raw performance.

And the PC is actually running higher settings. In Wukong, the textures are better and the game runs 4K DLSS Performance, which is quite a bit more demanding than native 1080p.

The Pro will perform better in PS5 exclusives, but by and large, the 5060 Ti 16 GB will come out slightly ahead in most games by around 5-10%, so yes, the Pro is a bit weaker.

Can this be used in older games that support DLSS or do they have to be updated?

With the Nvidia app any game that has DLSS at all, can be forced to run using DLSS Transformer with the Latest Preset.
You can even set custom internal resolutions through the app if youve got some spare horsepower and want to get your performance just right.

We are in PC land so you can even use DLSS Swapper to upgrade DLSS to version not yet available to the public.

Im testing 310.3 right now........310.2.1 is the public release of DLSS.

What app is that? I usually only install the drivers without "Geforce Experience".

Replacing the dlss dll files in the game folder won't work i assume?

as an extreme example, here's a 2020 indie game pumpkin jack upgraded to DLSS 4

taa vs dlss 2.1

taa vs dlss 3.8 (preset e)

taa vs dlss 4 (preset k)

the simplest way I know is replacing the DLL file and then you can force preset K globally with nvidia inspector. this worked reliably for me so far. but you have to reapply the inspector setting when you update your driver because it can revert back to its default value

so technically you don't have to use the nvidia app. nvidia app also does not support every DLSS game there is (it does not support pumpkin jack, as an example)

i use both

Geforce experience is dead.
Its now just called the NvidiaApp and isnt intrusive the way Geforce Experience was.

The other app is DLSS Swapper, it makes it easy to manage DLSS versions, cuz it tells you what version of DLSS you are on, what version the game came with and will handle all the downloading and swapping so you dont have to do it yourself.
Ive accidently borked a game (Plagues Tale) by doing DLL swap and I foolishly deleted the OG DLL and could never get rid of the ghosting I introduced with whatever DLL I had installed.
With DLSS Swapper or the NvidiaApp Ive had no problems, cuz App intercepts and injects.

yea for sure certain games are hit or miss. But anyone can do this kind of list also and put games like cod or jedi survivor.

Jedi Survivor will still outperform it, it just won't be as smooth. We have it from Cerny's mouth that the Pro's GPU is roughly 40% better than the PS5's. The 5060 Ti is almost 60% faster than the 6700, a GPU that performs close to the PS5 in a dozen tested games.

The point still stands and you didn't disprove it.

i still don't understand how ps5 pro can run jedi survivor's koboh with stable 1% lows around 60 fps with ray tracing
it was evidently CPU bottlenecked so they may have offloaded some of that CPU workload to GPU. but if that's the case what is that special GPU hardware that ps5 pro has but PC doesn't have? whatever that is we need it on RTX GPUs

Im using RTX5060ti to sometimes play at 4K 120hz VRR TV with DLSS performance, so upscalled from 1080p and with transformer model it looks very nice, even with 3x framegen locked at 116fps so 38 real frames? Latency is still more than good enough for gamepad.

Even though i said i would never buy this card, i took the plunge.

Found one in my country for €470, which is a nice price drop from the €530 it cost a few weeks ago. It's still too expensive for a rebranded 5050 card but because a friend of mine can buy it cheaper by adding it to his company expenses, the price i'm asked to pay is €380. Which i think it's fair. I also just sold my 3060 12GB for €200 so the final toll for me is €180.

For just €180 out of my pocket i'm getting about 30-40% better performance compared to the 3060 and an additional 4GB of VRAM, along with other small AI niceties. That performance bump seems enough to be able to lock all modern games at 60fps (1080p) since the 3060 was struggling with some and i had to lock them at 40fps. The only issue is the removal of Physx but the only game affected in my case is going to be Alice: Madness Returns. I don't have any other game that uses 32bit Physx.

I know it's not a great card but in my situation i don't think i could do any better. As long as you're enjoying what you bought then no one should be scrutinizing your investments (and nor should you be doing it with other people either).

Are we focusing on smooth playability or how high a framerate can go? Cause that is 2 different conversations. I can get my framerate in warzone to hit 240fp on my 3070ti but the game feels monumentally worse than even on ps5 with a locked no stutter 120hz.

Have you tried locking the frame rate with RTSS? Sounds like you have frame pacing issues.

Jedi Survivor is a mess on PC, that's why I singled it out. Otherwise, the 5060 Ti will be both smoother and have higher frame rates most of the time thanks to a much wider VRR window as well.

Glad you got a deal , but damn is it really that much? 470 Euros is $553.57 in the US. Crazy money.
I see it on sale on Amazon for $450, the 8gb is $100 less. Is 8gb ram (they buy it in bulk) really worth $100. I bet they get it for like 10 -$20 and mark it up significantly.

Don't get why they cheeped out using 128bit bus instead of 256bit like the 3060ti. 8gb on a 2025 card with 128bit bus, lol.... There is a reason I am not looking to upgrade my 3060ti anytime soon.

There's something tempting about getting a PC with a AMD 395+ Halo Strix and being able to allocate 96GB of RAM to the GPU.

Never have to worry about memory again!

The guy you replied to reminds me of a dipshit on Reddit who was trying to say that RTX 4060 laptops were unusable for games, and a 4070 is the minimum requirement to play anything, because some random person got 40fps in GTA5. But he owned a 3060 laptop, and massively overpaid for a 5090 laptop.

What you say is only a pipe dream.

What you say is only a pipe dream.

In the sense the Halo Strix is a 4060 or so equivalent at best, sure, but it is very real! I felt it overkill, but could have gone with a 128GB configuration and ended going 64GB. Still, 64GB to split up however you want between GPU and RAM is not bad either, let's me use the PC w/ 48GB & 16GB on the GPU for non-gaming, and 32GB/32GB for heavier gaming! It is just nice to not have to worry about GPU RAM requirements - seeing the video review of the system of the 128GB model with 90GB on the GPU is quite amusing, that's what, like the entire game in most cases?

Or I guess just in the sense of imagining an nVidia GPU with 96GB of RAM, damn. Be like what, $15,000?

Smooth motion is limited to 2x, but the visual quality is so much better than Lossless Scaling. It does not play nicely with Retroarch, but other emulators seem to work great. Games running on older Direct X don't work either. Like Borderlands 2/Pre-sequel.
And yes, Mario World feels oddly smooth in a good way, I tried a bunch of games on Megadrive, SNES and some Arcades. Let us know what you think.
Ok so i have the card but how do i use frame gen on emulators/retroarch?
