You were the bigger man here, OP. You're always gonna get that shit from people in the same race who are less educated and successful than you, although I have to admit, its definitely more prevalent in the black community.

Of course you do, you were annoyed by them the moment they walked in going by your words. Just because they acted a certain way, doesn't mean they completely fail at understanding when someone has preconceived ideas about them.
 
You're in your early 20s and surprised by this shit, OP? Come on breh, I've been hearing that shit since I was 8 years old. I find this mentality even prevalent among fellow black college students, even successful ones. I've had friends look at my iPod and accuse me of listening to white music, or laughing at the way I talk.

It doesn't bother me anymore. I just brush it off and keep moving

I have occasionally had to deal with this from time to time, then at other times, people argue if I am actually technically black. Recently I've come to the conclusion that I just don't give a fuck.

So much emphasis placed on such a fucking ridiculous ideology - letting go of it completely is a very nice feeling.
 
Obviously they were in the right, they were very educated gentleman that knew what they are talking about and you should re-think your life from this point and realize that you are a sellout, a disgrace to your race.

GAF I'm in shock. Like, I didn't know what to say. I didn't talk to anyone for the rest of the night and any attempt at conversation about the subject was quickly dropped.

I mean...what the fuck? Just because I have a good job I'm a sellout? And I speak proper english? Ugh. I'm just...angry. Angry that there are people who actually HATE people reaching sucess from my own race.

I'm a big lad so things like that tend not to happen to me, few people even give me eye contact these days, but when I was younger (and maybe not so comfortable in my own skin) I got that shit all the time. Even off ghetto whites, of which they're plenty. The last time it happened to me it was a bunch of Jamaican blokes having ago at me for wearing shoes ffs.

At the end of the day you can't debate with stupid and you may as well be a different race to them, since the language you speak is different.

Believe it or not people judge you on how you speak more than how you look anyway.

A word of warning though, life does tend to turn out to be a self fulfilling prophecy. I've met enough blacks who think that they're too good to even say hello to another black person because of their own preconceived ideas about their own race, they're as bad in my opinion as those at the other end of the spectrum, meaning the ones that you dealt with.

Africans are lucky enough to avoid all this shit to be honest. Oine of the reasons when people say to be " You ain't black", I go, you're right, I'm African. Big difference.
 
I once took a co-worker out to dinner after work. He was black and we were all dressed in business attire (button up shirts and slacks). And while we were waiting to be seated a group of black guys came up to my co-worker and started calling him "Wonderbread" and accusing him of "selling out his race" and all that.

Luckily the hostess seated us right away. I bought my co-worker's dinner along with his drinks. Poor guy.
 
If you're not poor and also not a rapper or professional athlete, you must not be black.

Fuck those guys. They are the kind of people Chris Rock hates.
