Only Dear Friends, not More Friends. :(

More Friends was a better show, and while Dear Friends isn't bad, the musical selection isn't the best in the world. Too much of the new shite.

I might go to the one in San Diego on July 14th (first day of the Comic Con) but I'm wondering what songs they play for it. Anyone have a list?

Glad I did a search, I'm going to the Atlanta Dear Friends this weekend. Saturday night's show. My first time to Atlanta, any other stuff I should check out while I'm there? I'll really only have one full day (apart from the concert) to sightsee. Suggestions welcome.

Underground Atlanta (there's an arcade there), Coca-Cola museum (it's right next to Underground), all of the Buckhead strip, Little Five Points, Zoo Atlanta, Stone Mountain if you want to feel the burn and walk up the mountain (no point in going otherwise), Six Flags/Whitewater...

Well those are all the obvious choices; go wild.

I would if I still lived around there. Have fun.

6 flags is probably too crowded..first week is the best time to go, if you can.

If you do go, ride the Ninja or Mindbender (stupid how they made it all Riddler-ish though) for me! :)

Somewhat related, I was browsing Creative Loafing the other day and saw a listing for a concert called "Video Games Live!" coming here soon.

I tend to not drive to Atlanta for things they have going on there, even though it's only a state away. I'm already attending an anime convention this weekend already anyways.

I'm a bit surprised there haven't been any responses yet after the concert.

I went to Sat. night's show, it ROCKED. I don't remember the exact track list or order, but they played an FFI, II, and III medley (awesome), Terra's theme, Aeris' theme, Theme of Love (FFIV), a couple of VIII songs, one from XI, one from Advent Children, and of course the Final Fantasy theme. I expected them to encore with One-Winged Angel, but I didn't expect them to do it TWICE! Totally unexpected and totally awesome.

Not really sure. Arnie Roth (conductor) simply could not hide the fact that he was really enjoying himself (especially during the double encore) and encouraged all of us to email SquareEnix to urge them to schedule more concert dates. Here's hoping.

What do you mean they encored twice? They literally played it twice in succession? What was the point of that? :)

Sounds cool, nowhere near as cool as Black Mages playing One Winged Angel though :D

Because it was freaking awesome, that's why. :D The choir was there at the very beginning, for Liberi Fatali from VIII, then left after that one song. After the show, the choir slowly re-entered, followed by Roth, which of course meant they were about to play it. After that, Roth left, but the choir and orchestra remained, and shortly after Roth came back in and said "Heck, let's play that one again." It was an immensely powerful song both times, and was easily the highlight of the show. They really did a great job of making it "for the fans".

I haven't heard the Black Mages play it, or anything for that matter, but I promise you it was a stellar performance.

I had an absolute blast at More Friends in LA in May, so I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself at the Dear Friends concert! They are holding one in Minneapolis on July 9th (my birthday!) and I was considering going to it, but it turns out that I will be out of town. :(

They did a double encore on Friday as well. After the performance in the program was finished, the audience kept applauding as Roth left the stage, came back, left again, then came back with the choir. He began the encore, and when everyone realized they were playing One-Winged Angel, the screams from the audience drowned out the orchestra! It seemed like a very unusual thing to happen at the symphony :lol Afterwards people kept clapping and clapping. I wasn't sure if they were ever going to stop, to be honest! Roth came and went a couple more times, then apologized that he only had one encore, and asked the audience whether they would like to hear Liberi Fatali or One-Winged Angel again. The crowd overwhelmingly yelled for One-Winged Angel, followed by a growing chant for "both!", which Roth rejected :) After the second encore, they quickly raised the lights and people started to leave.

It was interesting to see the crowd, as well. The hall was about 90% full, and some people were dressed to the nines in suits and tuxedos, while at the other end of the spectrum others were proudly wearing the Dear Friends T-shirts they were selling in the lobby.

Photography was "strictly prohibited", but that didn't stop anybody, so I joined in and snapped this shot with my phone. Originally, my girlfriend and I had seats A1 and A2, but realized only too late that this is way, way too close. While it gave us an excellent view of the underside of the cellist's foot, we moved back a few rows during the intermission and enjoyed things a lot more. Live and learn, I guess. You can see the couple in front of me getting romantic before the orchestra played Aerith's Theme :)
