What the hell, I'm having major deja vu here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1330016&highlight=
I saw this one popping up on Netflix and gave it a go. I think we can all agree that Jurassic Park is a classic, and that Lost World and part three were...not nearly as good.
Therefore, just like whit Star Trek Beyond, I went in sceptical and again was pleasantly surprised. There is some really solid action here and it all looks amazing.
The main premise was pretty realistic and dumb at the same time. The fact that people might get bored of dino's after a while was something I could kind of accept, just like that they would breed a new kind of beast. However if you see that Mososaurus jump out it's hard to think anyone would ever get bored there. But it was good enough for me.
The whole training the Raptors thing worked much better then I feared. Chris Pratt gives a solid performance here and the Raptors look very realistic. Most of the time I forgot they were CG. I was also pleased with the fact that this little story saves their lives later on, and the fact that I started to feel sympathy for these killing machines was pretty great.
Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire was ok, but she looked a bit...plastic? I don't know, it got better later on but in the beginning she looked a bit CG, like the dinosaurs. The kids were just there for...well the kids that go and see the movie. No depth here and they lacked the charm of the original duo.
But where it all counts is the dinosaur action obviously and it was fantastic. Great and intense action whenever these beasts were on the screen, very believable. The final showdown with T-Rex was magnificent. I was on the edge of my seat during the whole final act, great stuff. And thank god they redeemed T-Rex after what they did to him in part three :-(
Storywise it sometimes felt flat on it's face though. I can't believe they wouldn't have a weapon to instantly disable that new dinosaur, they made it! The whole 'our parents are getting divorced' was never follow up on, completely unnecessary. The romance between Claire and Owen also felt dumb, served no purpose. The first movie was referenced a bit to much I think.
There was also a very goofy scene in this movie. When that raptor, blue, comes to the rescue you see him sprinting towards them and it looks soooo stupid. Like a scene from Lassie, coming to the rescue!
Overall not a good movie, but very enjoyable! Your thoughts?
