So PC Gamers did 4K move you out of the " Desk Space Ghetto" into the "Comfy Couch Suburbs"?

Now that 4K is the standard do you still mostly game at your desk or have you moved over to the TV?

Old thread for reference.

I remember that thread lol. Time flies GAF. I went comfy couch for almost 10 years. Almost exclusively controller gaming. Most M&K games just weren't doable from the couch for me. Bought a new house with more space and built myself a nice office. Haven't gone back to the couch. Might put a Switch 2 in the living room though. Need to just run HDMI and USB wall plates between my office and living room...

I'm loving 4K gaming on my 3060.

I game in my bedroom, at my desk, 2 feet away from a 50" 4K 120Hz TV (and 1080p 165Hz monitor), I don't think that counts as couch gaming though.
PC is still too fiddly to work on the TV for me. Waiting for Steam OS in a box.
I have two "splitters", one for PC into TV/projector (uses a switch) (and a DP cable to monitor), one for PS5 into TV/projector. Cables, cables everywhere.

I have had a PC hooked to a TV since TVs started coming out with VGA ports back in the day (2010?). It is still not a daily driver situation for me. I will fire it up and play around but if I am doing any real gaming time it is on PC at my desk or console on TV. That might change for me in the next year. I am looking into mini-PC's with Oculink support. If I get a comfortable front end/launcher that I want to use I will probably do a lot more PC gaming on TV.

I don't feel comfortable surfing the web with keyboard and mouse on a couch. Also I use a secondary monitor so I don't want to have another smaller screen next to my already large TV.

My PC has been in my bedroom for over 2 years at this point, and essentially acts as a giant, multi-faceted console. No problems whatsoever, and it’s been quite easy to simply turn it on and boot up a game while lying in bed. If I want it to be even easier, then I switch to big picture mode if I’m primarily using Steam for that session.

I have one of the curved Samsung ones. I think it is called an odyssey or galaxy, I can’t remember. It may be 4k, but I think it’s 240 for frames or something.

I use it for my consoles and PC gaming. If it isn’t 4k then no I didn’t move to a 4k TV. I like the split screen functions it has, but the other Samsung one I have for the security and house automation is better. It’s a non smart version, but I can split it into many screens easily.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Yeah I have mine plugged both to a monitor and a big ass TV, it's cool being able to so easily switch between the couch and the desk.

I moved on to a DUHD ultra wide already, so no.
I can also set the output to a 77" OLED whenever I want, but I honestly prefer the ultrawide.

I do still have a little BeeLink micro PC set up in the living room. But that's for using the movie and tv internet lending library and emulators. I don't think I've played the emulators once since I set it up though. I've got a sick CRT retro gaming set up in the office.

My 3060 laptop runs 4K/120 easily via DLSS on my LG C1. So yeah, I have played many games on the sofa. Jusant, Messenger, even Baldur's Gate 3.

Went PC in the earliest days of PS3 but at that time couch gaming was not made as simple as it is now. Besides, a lot of games were still exclusives to consoles like JRPG so I dropped PC.

Now everything's different as nearly every JRPGs are coming to PC in the best possible way...

Bought a 4070ti Super rig recently and been enjoying JRPGs like never before currently playing Metaphor in 4K 120fps on a 65 LG C2...

I will never go back to consoles.

Are you using a launcher? If so, how is it working out? I am seriously considering purchasing one of these. I would like something that can easily stream media (Hulu, YouTube, etc.) and play some games at close to current console quality. Preferably with remote for media but I could get by with a controller. I just need it to be console-like and less cumbersome than what I have tried with my current TV/PC hookup. I am really looking forward to what Xbox comes up with.

I haven't used my monitor for at least 2 years now. That's a shame as I got a nice 1440p144hz monitor but I prefer the comfy couch 65". The only downsize is that my 4070 can't always provide 4K60 and it's an old LCD TV, no OLED goodness on that one... It's a ~2018 so I guess I'll change in a few years. I don't see why I would go 8K though, 4K120 is fine (on my other TV, much more recent but not near the PC).

I was thinking about getting one of those, but held off when I decided to get a PS5 Pro. Was also looking at one of these from minis forum.

Requires oculink port, but there are some mini pcs that have them.

I recently ran a HDMI from my study where the PC is to my home theater with a 120" 4k projector.
So it allows me to play at the PC on my 34" ultra wide @1440p and then switch to the projector on the couch with my Xbox controller.
I use virtualhere on a rpi that works brilliantly!

I know some current handhelds support egpu from USB 4/Thunderbolt. I would like to see the next generation have an oculink docking solution for the added bandwidth.

I'm not sharing my game time with the family. I have my own space to game and only games touch my OLED that is on a desk, so no. It's still a 55" TV but I haven't moved to no couch. I stand or use a treadmill most of the time. Sitting is cancer so I do it rarely.

Yeah, I tried USB 4 egpu and it just isn't worth it. Oculink has a little overhead but not nearly as much as USB 4. I think some gaming laptop manufacturers are missing out on sales by not including oculink ports. I was reading Lenovo might be releasing a laptop that does but currently it is only available in China. Mini PCs are definitely the best option for that right now.

Would be really cool if Microsoft had something like that for the rumored handheld.

Are we getting close HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 ?

My PC went into Ultra Wide territory, with a nice comfy chair and room for my cat on my desk.
My consoles went into 4k territory, with a nice comfy couch in the media room with room for my wife next to me.
Then the Steam Deck came along and kinda fucked up that division.

I went couch PC when I got my 65" Samsung QN90A in 2021. Now I'm back desktop due to getting Acer's 27" glasses free stereoscopic 3D monitor.

My PC’s have been connected to TV’s since forever. I used to connect them to 10 foot projector screens, but that a different kind of darkness.

I'm somewhere in the middle.

I have a 240hz VRR monitor so there is no way to play games on my crappy 60hz big TV.

But i don't sit at the desk either. I have a comfy chair where i sit as if it was a sofa and use a game-pad most of the time.

I'm using one of the cheapest available. I bought it for TV and movies, so the specs didn't matter much. I just use a small wireless mouse and keyboard.

I went the opposite way. I always hated playing on those crappy PC LCDs back in the day and played most of my games on a plasma TV with a gamepad. It's only in recent years that I've gone back to playing on PC monitors because they aren't terrible now.

I still use the TV on occasion because it's great for games with 60fps caps. But it can't really compete with a 165hz ultrawide OLED.

Nah I'm good with my 32" Samsung G8 OLED. Windows is too fiddly to work in the living room setup anyways.

I use Steam Link through the TV or the Steam Deck, if I want to play PC games around the house.
