So PC Gamers did 4K move you out of the " Desk Space Ghetto" into the "Comfy Couch Suburbs"?

When I did have my comfy couch set up, I found it best to use a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse and just use your couch cushion for a mouse pad. It works perfectly for windows and is good enough for anything but FPS MP. With RTS and CRPG stuff, the biggest challenge was reading the text. I'd rock between hunched over on coffee table and laid back with keyboard on my lap and mouse on the couch. Wasted money on lap desks I never used at least twice. Used a controller anywhere I could.

Here is the comfy couch setup.

Now that 4K is the standard

Currently sitting behind a flat 40-inch 3440x1440 (MSI MAG401QR) right next to a 4K TV. I prefer 155 Hz refresh rate with an increased FoV over any kind of pixel density improvement. In fact, it's got pixel density closer to a regular 24" 1080p, and I have absolutely no issues with that.

Been a couch gamer for a long time. A big tv and wireless mouse and keyboard for strategy games and a controller for everything else. 4k has nothing to do with couch gaming for me, 4k only matters for image quality.

I play most games on PC with a controller, I"ve hooked up my laptop to the TV a couple of times just to sit with the wife, didn't really like it that much.

Even my PS5, when I get it out of its box, I hook it up to my PC monitor. Just buy a better chair and you'll be fine.

Did that before 4K.

Been 1080p 60fps on the couch for the last five years and don't expect to change any time soon.

3070 laptop with a custom keyboard and mouse set up that works for me. Gamepad also has a keyboard peripheral and phone touch screen doubles as a mouse.

Bro I've been playing PC games on the comfy couch since TV's were 1080p

In the old days you used to buy these adapter dongles that let you connect a PS2 Dualshock 2 to a PC USB port

I do both. 1440p desk. 4K couch.

But 4K resolution has nothing to do with me getting a PC in the living room. For me the trigger was console games getting PC ports.
Last gen: Xbox
This gen: Xbox + Playstation
Next gen: Xbox + Playstation + Nintendo ???

For normal use: is connected to a 50” oled tv using a Katana speaker. It’s also running to my 77” oled theater with 7.1.2 yamaha powered atmos setup with ass kickers installed in the seats. I can have the best of both worlds depending on my mood and what I’m playing.

90% of the gaming time is spent in the gaming room in front of the desk, in a very good chair.
I find it more comfy, and more importantly, WAY more immersive than sitting on the couch in the living room.

The couch is the last 10% when Steam Deck / Nintendo is docked to play some chill stuff. Or a Playstation exclusive where I don't bother moving the console to the gaming room.

Can't remember the last time I played a game at a desk. Doom3 maybe. Using a mouse at work fucks up my tendons enough.

I would take pains to map games to those generic USB controllers. Online fps and RTS were out, but I managed to play everything else. As soon as I started doing that, I put my monitor on the coffee table in my apartment and play on the couch. So I sort of fell into it.

I've PC-gamed with M+K at a desk since I was a kid. It's just how I roll. Also it allows you to use a smaller monitor and downsample games to make them look even better.

Nah, I merged the two. My 55" LG OLED doubles as a desktop PC monitor. Console and PC gaming all in one.
If any TV company would do a 32 inch OLED television around with 120hz VRR support around 5/600 dollars that would be amazing. For now, my 32" mini led is the closets I'll get and I don't have to worry about burn in

I mostly play on 65 LG OLED in a comfy chair. But it wasn't about 4K, it just makes sense in my flat. Earlier I had 50 inch 1080p and still played mostly that way.

Playing single player games (like God of war, silent hill) in that position is so ridiculous. When I've bought 27 1440p monitor, it was literally pathetic to play third person sp games such way.

Not for me, i'll always prefer playing at a desk and up close to a monitor than on a couch, i have done for ever now, in fact i'm going to get a new monitor after a new PC and i still want a 1440p one for the higher fps, as 4K still seems stuck at 60 for some strange reason, no matter how more powerful the GPUS get, it should be going up.

Yea it's definitely making me game more in the living room on my TV.

For years I had a 1080p Sony bravia from 2007, I tended to use my GTX 1080 equipped PC on it with games that were too heavy to run decently on my 1440p 165hz monitor. Then I got a RTX 3080 and it ran everything so fucking well I got the urge to go full on and ordered a 65" LG C3 in the sales. Man gaming on an OLED and HDR is just different gravy. Can only slightly tell the difference between 120hz and 165hz too. For RTS and FPS games I'll go back to my desk with my old trusty monitor but honestly most of my gaming is on my comfy cough, chips n dip neogaf style.

Now my issue is I want to upgrade my GPU with all these upcoming heavy games coming but Nvidia has fucked us all up the tuchus. So maybe I'll stick to my 3080 for a while bit longer. It still holds its own if you're smart with settings!

I tried to hook up my new at the time PC to my sorta new at the time 720p Sony 3LCD rear-projector back in 2006 with a wireless Microsoft kb+m set. Shit was laggy as hell. Having not noticed HDTV lag before and not realizing it was actually a thing, as it wasn't really being talked about at least anywhere I was looking, I had assumed it was the wireless keyboard and mouse that were at fault and just used the TV connection (it was VGA not HDMI or DVI) for watching movies and TV shows... which worked pretty well for my setup at the time. A couple of years later I pulled that keyboard and mouse out of the closet and tried them out again on my monitor and they were pretty decent. Totally usable... certainly not the main contributor to the lag in that setup.

Another reason I didn't think to blame the TV was that Xbox 360 was pretty good on it. Now I realize it's quite a bit easier to perceive lag with mouse controls than dual stick in an FPS... but I suspect the VGA input also had some extra lag compared to component for whatever reason because COD 2 wasn't even remotely playable.

I haven't been back to PC gaming on a TV in any serious attempt since. Actually it went the other way, online ecosystem was better for COD at least as of MW2 or so, so my consoles were mostly hooked up to monitors for a more competitive FPS setup.

Still using a desk with 1440p monitor and a 4k TV, with an extra 1080p monitor most of the time, sometimes i stream games down to my gym or bedroom TVs, but those are too big and theyre only 60hz so while its the comfiest its also the the least preferable. It just feels wrong to not use a desk with kmb to me so ill never fully move on.

Huh? I first hooked up a PC to a TV permanently when I got my first HDMI TV. This was 2010 or 2011 and haven't went back. I am typing this on an 85 inch and waiting for an excuse to get a 100 inch.

Plays with kids toys, in the adult gaming world
I have zero interest in gaming on a couch

even as a kid I either sat on the floor or in a chair near the tv in my room

when I game on a couch on a whim I somehow do not play as well for some reason

I don't even like watching most shows from a couch (other than a long doc or movie) I prefer a desk

Should have said PC instead ;p I prefer to play keyboard and mouse in a lot of my games. And KB+M setup in the living room wouldn't be optimal or more comfortable anyways, at least in my home. Unless you purely play on controller and have Steam boot into big picture mode - which still isn't perfect; then maybe it may work. And you will still need a mouse any keyboard at some point. Not for me. At least until Microsoft or Valve gives us a proper OS and console experience (like Steam Deck+SteamOS) and machine tailored for the living room.

On a stationary desk and dedicated spaces for peripherials/accessories, no issues and no faffing about. No reason to change my PC and I can just stream my games to my TV+Steam Deck anyways.

I use my 4k TV all the time (it's directly below my computer desk, one floor below, connecting my PC to it was a pain but my drill did the job!). Either in 4k 60hz or 120hz 1440p, I have 7900XT FYI. I have a logitech wireless keyboard for troubleshooting and my gamepads downstairs. I can switch between monitor and TV thanks to the app on my phone, I can even turn my PC on and off thanks to the app. My windows login is turned off and PC boots directly to steam big picture. A proper console like experience.

On my desk I have 1440p mini led HDR monitor (m27t20) but a quarter of its screen died so I'm sending it to repair next week.
So I took out my old 1080p TN monitor and it looked BAD until I got used to the lower resolution. It took me a day. It's crazy how satisfied I am with this resolution right now.

To be honest I care less and less about graphics and framerate as along as the game feels ok to play. As long as it's at least 60 fps and 1080p I'm satisfied, anything below that is not good enough. I know it's subjective but going 4k, 144hz or turning on HDR in a game is a nice bonus to enjoyment but it's relatively small boost.

I have an offi e i work in that has an LG C2 42 as a monitor BUT couch gaming is undeniably better so for the living room I have a VERY long optical HDMI that I swap out if I'm going to play in the lounge.

I haven't found a switch that supports everything i want for hassle free switching over. The other issue is found is you need a USB hub attached to a similarly long cable too so I have an extra long USB cable along with a HDMI that I run across the hall it's not the best set up for the house but I put it away after.

If anyone can recommend a good perm solution for the USB hub or a switch I would greatly appreciate it.

But when I can I play on the sofa.

The current way I'm doing it is just streaming to my rog ally or steam deck but find the screens a little small. Would love a 10" version of the ally or SD.

Just to add the switch must support 120hZ hdr Dolby atmos and VRR
