So PC Gamers did 4K move you out of the " Desk Space Ghetto" into the "Comfy Couch Suburbs"?

I got the 48 inch LG C1 to use as my PC monitor. I mounted it on a VESA floor stand so it lines up right at the back edge of my desk, it’s glorious.

Playing single player games (like God of war, silent hill) in that position is so ridiculous. When I've bought 27 1440p monitor, it was literally pathetic to play third person sp games such way.

You don't have to sit like that even at a desk for single player games. 😜 While I prefer playing those type of games on console, I have at times reclined back, and kicked my feet up on the desk playing less intense games.

Steam OS is the solution to that thing. Give me the Steam Deck experience on the TV with some decent hardware and we cooking.
This is exactly what I did a few months ago, built a pretty decent micro ATX with a 6900xt, that thing boots directly to steam (using a gaming Linux distro made to mimic steam deck), the real steam deck os ui, not big picture, everything can be done and tweaked with a gamepad (dual sense works perfectly wireless) and works amazingly well.
It's the most "I want a console experience but with PC" that I could dream of since years now

(Only drawback is that if you want steam deck UI, it has to be with an amd GPU, with Nvidia you can have big picture but not gamescope for now)

My desk is next to my TV in the living room, if I want to kick back on the couch i can switch the PS5 to the TV, I never use the PC on the TV, got a 55" Oled but unfortunately I was an early adopter so it only supports 1080p 120hz not 4k 120, but it's fine if i want to play EA FC or something, I generally spend 99% of my gaming time at my desk though, being honest my Herman Miller Mirra 2 is more comfortable than the couch

Ah to be young again.

I remember watching a Louis ck special where he talked about it feeling good to sit down. At the time I didn’t get it. Now I get it.

I'm 43 so not so young. Also living with sciatica from lifting. For me, sitting actually hurts my back more. I was just at a HS football games last night. Had to stand after sitting with the family for 30 minutes because of back pain. Standing and walking around felt way better.

I actually walk or stand for my entire shift at work. Desk jobs are so bad for us. Down 40 pounds.

I need 30 major games every year to make a decision, I'm not gonna ignore it's awesomeness but it's expensive for the reason I've mentioned.

I still game at my desk but I'd love to try having a second PC just for gaming and hooked up to a big TV

7900xt PC attached to a LG C1 65” and a 5.1 home theatre system. I fire it up, turn on Big Picture, then controller game all on my couch.

I've been using my PC in my living room since moving away from consoles ~2 years ago.

PC works amazingly well in a living room environment if you're willing to put in the time to get things configured. I've got my setup hooked up to a 77" OLED w/ a Sonos surround system, controlled by a controller 95% of the time and it works extremely well.

I lean heavily on Playnite, which is freaking amazing. It's still surreal to be able to play the entire Nintendo library, Xbox Library, Playstation Library, Sega library, and all of my PC games all from one beautiful controller friendly interface.

Here's a shot of the dashboard I launch my games from w/ a controller every day:

It's not that simple. Basics of geometry: when you make x2 view distance , you get only 1/4 of screen square in your field of view. So, tiny 27 inch monitor would be perceived even few times smaller in you field of vision if you change you position from 70cm to 120cm range from monitor. In case of 50 inch TV it would be such problematic, because changing position from 1.5 to 2meter change perceived screen square only by 1.8 times.

Yeah monitors are just too damn tiny these days compared to a TV.

In the old days there was hard technical limit on how big you could make a CRT which kept monitors competitive.

I understand all of that but you are making it sound like reclining back at your desk suddenly makes 27" not viewable. It doesn't bother me to lean back for my 27" monitors if I am playing (or watching) something at my desk but I understand it might bother some people.

I only use the monitor when I went to do something with my HOTAS, or mouse and keyboard, or a long session of programming. Using a 43" QLED HDR/4k/VRR tv as my primary display, before that it was a 1080p smart tv, before that it was a 1080p LCD tv. When 1080p wasn't available though, I was still using monitors for my primary display. The switch happened around that time for me.

I bought an ATI graphics card with composite out previous to this and was playing movies on my CRT television, text wasn't all that clear, but it was good for entertainment.

I use my PC with an Ultrawide screen + TV (LG C2) and then Steam Deck OLED which I mostly use Moonlight Streaming with to play handheld at fuck off quality in bed or on the couch.

The TV I use with a Steam Controller + Bluetooth keyboard for navigation and then Xbox Elite controller for actually playing the games. It works pretty good but I could probably simplify it but running all games through Playnite or add all games as Non-Steam games on Steam and boot into big picture mode. The issue with the Steam Controller is that the damn mouse pointer sometimes show up in games or that the Steam Controller becomes controller 1, but it's a minor annoyance that is easy to fix. I think I might buy one of those combined bluetooth keyboard + trackpad. It probably solves all issues.

I love this versatile setup. I have all the options and I find that more and more I'm gaming away from the desk. But you can't really get away from the fact that so many games are meant to play with Mouse+KB. I'm never playing FPS / Strategy games / cRPGs with a controller. BG3 is just one example of a game that is just so much better with M+KB. I know even stuff like CK3 has a console port, but I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could suffer through that with a controller.

I'm lucky in that I have my beast connected to our main TV (LG C1, with SP90Y Atmos SB), it's a 4090/14700f/64 etc etc - it's a mean machine and my main gaming comp and also main office comp (lounge is unofficial dad zone). To preempt this, I find putting a pc and series x in your sons room (he 5 , but he's gangster at Minecraft), and wifey has a 4k tv in the bedroom with the switch and Steam deck so she loves her nerd time there. Sounds anti-bonding time, but coop with your wife and 5 year old is such a vibe.

Also have an office with a still-good 3080 i7 32 with a mean as Samsung ultrawide screen 2k, so totally great for KB+M specialty games, but also the home office, so mostly gets used by wifey for that. I love being on a 65" for work and play, but damn if my ADHD wants to youtube a lot when working or jump into games.....have to jam lofi on to keep on target lol.

Pro-tip- Corsair lapdesk with the k63 and any corsair wireless is a mint couch setup too.

ITX Build that can move between couch and desk master race.

Best of both worlds. 1440p 240hz OLED, and 4K 120hz OLED.

This so much. With the PS5 pro price I just thought, what am I doing with these consoles really now. So im in the process of securing all my SFF components to build a beast for the front room and mobile to my attic for my sim rig.
