So Pirates 5 : Dead Men Tell No Tales/Salazar's Revenge is out next week, any hype?

The last one was six years ago? I didn't realize the time gap was so big

Since than Depp had 3 box office bombs, 1 underperformer, 1 domestic abuse scandal, is notorious for being late amongst other things and still managed to get the role of the Invisible Man and as the HP spinoff baddie. And of course still headlines Pirates.

yup, I'm hyped to watch this on 7 dollar Sunday, because full price is not going to happen. I like the idea but I dont care for Orlando bland.

Bloom isn't in it. Or am I missing something?

The second one is the best, don't miss it.

I love the series. I love Jack Sparrow as a character. 3 missed so much potential gained from 2's story, 4 had an overall weak story that made little sense but I enjoyed it still.

I am looking extremely forward to 5. Reviews be damned

I only saw the first 2 pirate movies, so i need to catch up on the others. Plus i am still over Depp just being weird as a character motivation

Hah You really don't. Past 2, Depp and a few setpieces you can see on YT are the singular draws because the stories either devolve into pure nonsense or are forgettable. Have little hope of this changing it. I'll watch when it's a free Amazon rental or literally blows everyone that watches it away

Eh. The trailers make it look like it's still heading down the path of dreary monotony that the franchise has been going for a while.

Still hoping that someday they try making Pirates of the Caribbean: Someone Else's Story with some different people handling the story. Maybe allow it to be fun and jaunty again.

Edit: There's some alternate universe version of the franchise where they went the 'wandering samurai' route instead of doing the two direct sequels and making Jack more and more of the focus.

I, for one, love POTC

Like all of em

It's a god of war stupid version of pirate lore and I dig that shit

4 was pretty sick, imo. Isn't this the last one? I'll have to marathon dumb pirate flicks before then

After seeing the extended look I have no interest in this movie. Skeleton sharks and a pretty boy who can't act. Meh. They need to retire this franchise. Although, it is nice to finally see the ghost pirate LeChuck on screen.

I remember seeing the first one opening night just because it had Legolas in it (this was at the peak of LotR-mania) and walking out thoroughly entertained and with a crush on Keira Knightley. I saw the second one on opening night as well and walked out with a very different reaction. Can't say I've been hyped for the series since.

I absolutely love PotC1. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. PotC2 is ok and PotC3 isn't any fun at all unless you watch the second one immediately preceding it. I thought PotC4 was really good though. If I had to rate them I'd say 1 > 4 > 2 >>> 3.

I'm very excited to see PotC5, but I'm an adult with young children and go to the movies maybe once a year so I'll probably end up waiting until it hits iTunes unless my wife surprises me and takes me to see it on a date.

Wasn't that the whole Davy Jones plot? Jack Sparrow cheating death, and a Death God thing trying to catch and kill him?

It's been a while.

Jack's deal with Jones was for the Black Pearl. Salazar is just a ghost, so if anything they are redoing Pirates 1.

Why would anyone believe any sort of marketing speak that this is the "last one"?
I mean, unless they get their budget in check, there's every chance this will be the last one. Needs something like 800m to break even. They got lucky with On Stranger Tides as that was a similar scenario.

nope. I love the first film. A good balance of humour and adventure but the 2nd and 3rd ones were all spectacle without being fun or funny. Never bothered with the 4th and I can't imagine watching this one. I thought this would be august or something judging by the lack of any buzz right now. This thing is being sent to die.

Loved the first 3. 4th was so lackluster that I feel hestitant to jump back but Javier Bardem is one of my favourite (villain) actors so I'll definitely give it a try in the cinema but I won't hold my breath for a return to form just yet

I'm pretty excited. The last one was pretty bad but the first 3 are good fun. Always enjoy the PotC movies, worth it for all the tropical scenery at the very least

hype...to see it bomb

why lmao

I can't think of any movies I want to see purposely bomb, that's just petty

if it's not good then so be it, don't watch it

I loved the first two, but my hype died after the third, just like it did with Shrek and other mediocre third movies. The trailers look decent enough, though, so I might see it.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The 4th one was super boring and had almost nothing memorable in it at all, but I'm hoping this one is a little better.

My girlfriend was also looking forward to it a bit, but then she read about some of the domestic abuse stuff with Depp and is now pretty much done with anything Depp related.

The last movie gives me such bad memories. I was fucking mugged* on the way home from the cinema and then later that night accused of shoplifting from a Tesco... when they showed me their video "proof" that would allow them to search me..it was clearly some cunt who didn't even look like me. The security guy did a comedy double take when he saw it. Idiot.

*Mugged coming home from Phantom Menace too, i should stop seeing bad movies.

Im just glad we are getting one more. I ADORE the first 3, I use them all the time to demo my home theater. I Hated the 4th, so much so I dont even consider it when doing a rewatch of all of them. I'm hoping this one is good enough at least to wash the bad taste of the 4th one away so the series can end on an even note.

The Curse of the Black Pearl is one of my personal favourite films, and pretty much the perfect summer blockbuster. The first two sequels I like quite a lot as well, just for how ambitious and weird they get. The fourth film is a total snooze, and shows why making Jack the main character is a really bad idea (as well as a rebuttal to the idea that I saw a lot of people propagating in the early years that Will and Elizabeth didn't add anything to the series; which just gets more obvious in that both the fourth and seemingly fifth movies make a point of introducing carbon copies of them).

I love the ocean setting and I also love ships and pirates. You don't get many big budget movies like this often. 4 was god awful and 3 was a disappointment but overall I still really like the series. If it can recapture some of what made the first 2 movies so awesome that would be great.
