So, what is there to look forward to at this year's E3?

Last year it was Halo 2, MGS3 and......Halo 2. However, so far i haven't heard any rumblings about featured high profile titles or hardware making a debut at E3 this May.
Unless MS or Sony rip the lid off their new console, this could very well be a very dry E3.

So an actual bunch of DS and PSP titles, major info/revealings of the 3 next consoles, the next Zelda, Mario 128 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. don't excite you?

I doubt all 3 consoles will appear at E3. Xenon is pretty much a guarantee to be shown as it's coming out this year. PS3 and Revolution on the other hand... who knows. I doubt hardware will be shown, but info/specs on the consoles will most likely be unveiled to try and kill off the momentum Xenon will probably have by then.

Nintendo said that they're gonna reveal Revolution at E3 2005

Are you insane? Definite Xenon stuff (if no playablestuff then I'll be amazed), definitely some things about PS3 and Revolution (how much we don't know, specs? Video? Something anyway), new DS and PSP software, Zelda, Wanda, games we don't know about...it's all good.

Reveal as in final hardware in a casing etc, or revealed as in specs ala what I was saying above? If it's hardware that'll blow my mind, as they'll be completely coming out of nowhere.

Yep, should be a good E3 - I'm looking forward to the DS/PSP software that'll be revealed.
E3 has always been really lacking in GBA coverage though, and with the other two handhelds' stuff I doubt we'll see anything much for the GBA.

Handhelds don't excite me, never have. To me their release are as exciting as a new calculator hitting the market.
All i want to see are the next-gen consoles from Sony and MS, and their respective titles..

Well you WILL see Xenon stuff, so don't worry about it.

I don't get the handheld thing. They're all games. But whatever, it's not the first time I've heard it.

What about Nintendo?

There'll be lots to see at this years E3:

- Nintendo will show Revolution and officially announce that the mature Zelda game is coming on the new console
- Nintendo will show Revolution versions of all its franchises (SSB, SM, Pikmin, Mario Tennis, Soccer, Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Kart, etc.) and announce strong third party support for the console.
- Microsoft shows Xenon/Xbox2 with some very impressive XNA tech demos. PDZero and True Fantasy Live Online will be launch titles for the console.
- Rockstar will announce the next gen Grand Theft Auto and they'll show the PSP version of GTA
- Sega will announce Shenmue 3 and a sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga and Nights (but I'm not 100% sure about this :D)
- Sony will announce that the PS3 is so powerfull, it could be in the Top 10 of worlds most powerfull supercomputers and show some FFXII FMVs saying they are calculated in real time.
- Take 2 will announce new Amped and Links games for Xbox and PS2

and much more

Wow, now that's wishful thinking.

But you are about the others?!

I think only Revolution news is specs. No games will be shown.

Given Nintendo's claims that specs aren't important anymore and they're focusing on other ways of making games improve, that'd be pretty hypocritical.

Unless there is something playable (and mind-blowing) then color me pre-unimpressed, or very skeptical at best. Meaningless tech demos and system specs are one thing I've learned not to put much stock in over the years. Show me the playables or don't bother.

Agreed. I've been to all E3 conventions since the pre-Dreamcast launch E3(which is the best one yet), and it's slowly starting to lose it's steam.
You can tell how the gaming industry has quickly become more corporate, and less consumer friendly. Pretty soon all of the high profile showcases will be available for viewing by attendees with media credentials.

:lol I fucking hope not.

Let's see, there's GameCube, PS2, Xbox, GBA, DS and PSP games, and revealing of the new PS3, Xbox 2 and Nintendo Revolution. That's insane. I'm looking forward to the return of Reggie the most though.

I can't believe Zelda will be here THIS year. :D

GOTY 2005.

:) :D

If I go, I will not play this at E3. I'll just try to keep the freshness of a playthrough for when it's finally released. Will be a painful, PAINFUL experience.

Microsoft ought to have playable Xenon titles if they are to launch in 2005 imo..

Nintendo will reveal Revolution. Sony will probably reveal PS3 earlier than E3, but I'm sure they'll have new stuff for E3 in terms of tech demos and whatnot. I doubt either Rev or PS3 will have playables.

Right! By E3 Jade Empire should be already available worldwide, so they could concentrate on a Xenon launch title.
There was talk that they have a first person RPG already in development.

Bioware's next game is Dragon Age. It should be out this year, so you should see a pretty advanced build at E3.

They have one other title in development, which may or may not be for Xenon. :)

I think it’s safe to assume the “unannounced console title” is an Xbox2 game with the small relationship between bioware and M$.

It would be fuckin insane if it was a party based Halo rpg?

And with no one publishing Dragon Age yet do you think there is a chance Microsoft picks it up, making it a PC and XB2 title like KOTOR?

Dragon Age
Zelda
Xbox 2 games
PS2 games
PSP games
Strippers
Double Deluxe
Return of more parties (last couple years have sucked)

Zelda's obviously gonna be the GOTS, i guess there should be some playable Xenon stuff if they intend to launch in 2005, which should at least be a nice supprise as they havent confirmed any first party games for it yet. Theres still plenty of time for those leaks though. Although it might just end up being playable EA xenon games or something lame like that.

Sony will most likely have something PS3 related to show, which should brighten up their dull dull press conference (i fell asleep watching it last year), nintendo will probably have something explaining what revolution is, someone remember to point a camera at the IGN guys when they announce it so we can see the look on their faces again :lol

I dont think its gonna be as good as last year from a games point of view, there just isnt as much to be excited about for this year (bar Zelda) should be good from a tech demo/Xenon launch line up point of view though.

I just can't wait to see those graphs and statistics again. My god I had to rush to the bathroom like a man possessed, pants half off and already greasing up the ol' wrist for some action.

Just hope Kaz is there to show me it all in twilight glory.

Either that or Reggie coming back up on the stage. If he doesn't, thousands of Nintendo fanboy hearts will be crushed and shattered.

I'm looking forward to PS3 games more than I am the new Zelda.

Pfft. For me it's the next-gen stuff that will get lost in the Zelda Chaos!

Btw do you guys think Nintendo will reveal the 'secret' behind Revolution at E3? If they have something up their sleeve they might want to hide it otherwise Microsoft could just copy it. Of course I'm assuming Nintendo is hiding something revolutionary...

This reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask for some time now: is it true that George Harrison was heckled during Nintendo's E3 conference last year when he started reviewing Nintendo's retail performance? I was watching it live on gamespot but didn't pick up on that at all. It might explain his somewhat distracted appearance at the time.

The "something revolutionary" is definitely interface-related - various Nintendo people have said as much in interviews. Depending on how much Sony show, I think Nintendo will either have to reveal this, or stay almost completely quiet on Revolution. I don't think they can really afford to stay completely quiet.

Besides, if it is something genuinely new, no doubt they'll have it patented, preventing the competition from copying it exactly. Although I kind of have my doubts..I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if it's anything more than camera related stuff (though they could still do "new" stuff within that realm..but so is Sony).

No way, it was just a trailer and the kidies were creaming their pants saying "OMG this is the best game evar etc... etc". Imagine what a bit of gameplay will do :lol

If you (well, maybe not you, but you get the idea) posted this a year ago, I could have sworn you were talking about Halo 2.

Half-naked hoes that will stand next to common nerds and treat them nicely because there's a sack of cash in it for them.

And maybe a couple games from Nintendo.

Zelda probably got the single biggest reaction to any game at E3 last year. I wouldn't underestimate the hype-wagon it could generate next year. Revolution should be the highlight of Nintendo's pre-show conference, but Zelda will fly the flag at the show itself.

No no no, two years ago :)

But seriously, i know you are a zelda fan and even you would realize that a trailer isnt anything special. The ruckus made about reggie and the mature zelda was like someone found a cure for aids.

All i am hoping for is that the next zelda is actually gritty, dark and violent. Lots of blood and decapitations etc.

I'm sorry you're wrong, but you are. The trailer was something special. Think about the way it was shown off and what people thought it would look like. Pretty much everyone before E3 thought it would be a cel-shaded game like TWW. Then they show off this game without mentioning the name. Just "one more world," as it was called. There wasn't even a hint of what it could be. Then as dramatic music began playing, you see someone on a horse. If someone was a huge, huge fan, they would have recognized the music from the OoT commercial, clearly giving it away. However, I'm sure many didn't know it was Riders of Doom, and when the hero was finally revealed, everyone had every right to cheer as they did. Nintendo finally listened (or as some will argue, caved in) to its fans. The trailer was brilliantly showed off.

During the conference, I completely forgot they were supposed to show a new Zelda, and before the conference, I seriously doubted there being a "mature Zelda" unveiled before their next system was released. Just look all around GAF, people without Gamecubes who have sold them or have them and don't use them anymore are interested in the game because of the change. Even people like DJ Demon J (who I admit, puts on really just an act, but it's hard to separate the lies from the truth) look forward to this game. At work, I've seen people stare wide-eyed at the Zelda boxart we have on display. At last E3, I saw people literally gape at the trailer playing on the big screen while in line for the DS or some game.

It was a very big deal, and it was only a trailer.
