So what was the verdict on Knives Out? (movie)

If that's your mindset, then I don't know what to tell you. I wouldn't want to be around the characters of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but I've still enjoyed all the episodes I've seen.

It is what it is, my wife watches The Family Stone every year around Christmas and every year I leave the damn house coz that movie is straight up uncomfortable for me to watch, hahah.

Was forced to see it due to my GF... It was an average (at best) movie with the occasional in your face virtue signaling.

I didn't like it. It didn't really work as a murder mystery and it barely passed muster as a comedy.

I think it would have made more sense as a tv series, the actors made the family interesting even though it was mostly made up of stereotypes.

You guys really have an RJ hate boner, do you?

Should've been nominated for best picture imo.

Films like Uncut Gems, The Lighthouse, Pain & Glory, Midsommar, The Last Black Man in San Francisco and many more are FAR more deserving of a Best Picture nomination and aside from Parasite were all better than the nominees and would had won most likely.

Fair enough. For me, it's only too much when it's actual people being pieces of shit, which is why I can't stomach reality TV with all its drama and backstabbing. In a fictional series, I at least know everything is pretend and no one is actually being this way.

I'd fuck Daniel Craig for real but that Southern accent was BAAAAAAAAAAD.

Also whole movie hinges upon some free get out of jail writing regarding a certain POC. It's VERY current year with talks on anti-immigration and the culture war is mentioned and the term SJW is used.

Movie gives away the twist like half way in then slowly trickles it's way down to the end result that's not all that interesting.

I'd give it like... a 6/10. Michael Shannon, Criggy Evans and JLC were the highlights.

Craig kept on falling out of his foghorn leghorn accent back into British that it was part of the comedy of the movie

Strange necrobump. It was an enjoyable movie. As noted, Craig's southern accent is pretty fucking terrible. He did a better one in Logan Lucky, but that's mostly because it kinda fit his cartoonish character Joe Bang. In Knives Out, everyone else was playing more authentic roles, so his accent stood out. My Floridian ear couldn't ignore it.

i'm seriously not a rian johnson hater. i don't think any of his movies are great but even TLJ i thought was a decent movie (the problem was more that it didn't fit the ST) but i couldn't handle knives out for more than 15 minutes before turning off. something about the way the characters talked was such a huge turnoff. nobody talks like that. i had the same problem with gone girl. not even ana de armas could save that movie for me.

Watched it twice. It's not that you can't really see where it's going, but the getting there is just done so well. Absolutely great ensemble. Very funny.

I watched it being fully aware of REE’s infatuation for RJ and the SJW buzztalk around the movie.

First 20 minutes I was thinking, this is the stupidest whodunit movie I’ve ever seen. “Alt-right” and similar buzzwords being dropped here and there, the family’s latent racism, the immigrant being the obviously innocent suspect were all a bit too in-your-face.

But! I actually enjoyed the movie, quite a bit. Nothing spectacular, but I’d watch it again.

I see its up to own on digital. Is it worth a buy? What did GAF think?
If you like murder mysteries, watch it. Not sure I’d buy it if you can stream it for free somewhere. Great movie, don’t let other people convince you not to watch if it interests you. Worse case scenario: you don’t like it but I’m sure you’ve seen way, way worse movies.

Not really a mystery when you instantly know who its gonna be, as soon as you see them, you're like yep its them, and low and behold it was

Its one of the worst murder mystery films I've ever seen, since there was 0 mystery

As a film its below average 4/10

As a "who's done it" film its 1/10

Just watch clue instead

Its like Clue but not as good.
Seriously? Clue couldn't even get Knives Out's craft service. No offense, but that just reeks of Rian Johnson hate. My apologies if it's not, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, Clue wasn't anything special, even for its time. KO is a pretty damn good mystery film. It sews enough doubt in the viewer's conclusions to keep you engaged to the end.

I had heard rave about how amazing this movie was, and when I watched it, I thought it was just okay.
Rian Johnson is essentially critic-proof for the rest of his career.

It's got a great cast - looks beautiful, but if you've seen more than one murder mystery in your life, you'll figure it out within 10 minutes.

Clue is 10X the movie this is. Clue is actually funny. Knives Out thinks it's funny and oh so witty. It's not.
It's like a well-done episode of Law and Order, where, spoiler alert: anyone rich is evil!!!

That said, my 13-year-old daughter thinks it's the greatest movie of all time..... well, behind Clue.

Really enjoyed it. Not sure if I'd enjoy as much on a second viewing, so probably worth a rent or wait for it to his a steaming platform.

Was an ok time waster.

I have no idea how it turned into a $500 or whatever million franchise. There was literally nothing unique about the concept, characters or format.
I don't know what buying Knives Out gives you, it's obviously not the concept of a murder case with multiple suspects and a detective trying to figure out who is guilty. Is Daniel Craig doing a bad accent worth $500mill?

Didn't like it as much as I thought I would have.
It was missing something. (keep it short)
The whole plots twists, with quirky characters is a type of movie I enjoy. This one felt a little shallow.

I thought of movies like Snatch, Oceans Eleven, Lock Stock, Smokin Aces, The Departed etc.
Films that are character driven with a lot of back and forth. That frenetic energy. (Guy Ritchie, Scorsese)

This one looked charming and the characters looked interesting.
Again, it just felt flat. Like an imitation of those great films.
It was predictable (which is a bad thing in these types of movies)

I actually looked up who the director was afterwards. Did not know it was Rian, but after knowing this, and seeing his Star Wars, I said "ooohhhh"
(I liked Looper though)

It's a beautifully crafted film with great actors. You could think of it as a reverse murder mystery really.
The more I think about it, the people who say they guessed the culprit in the first 10 minutes are full of shit. The movie doesn't present anything as a murder at the start, it presents the proceedings as intentional.

Not bullshit. It's easy to determine by the tone of the film as the characters are introduced and how hard RJ tries to be "subversive." I still enjoyed the movie, but I genuinely had it figured within minutes, just not the "how" of the murder's execution - pun intended.

I thought it was alright. People I know hyped it up too much and it couldn't really live up to expectations

Say what you will about modern Star Wars movies, it's the school of failing upwards. I choked on my cornflakes when I read that $500 million figure. Fuck you subscription increases Netflix if you have that shit to throw around.

Only person to write a decent half script (with the shit he inherited) was Colin Trevorrow and get he got booted off the movie.

You see the old guy kill himself, how are you meant to guess any culprits from that?

Mysteries aren’t all about WHO it is. It’s how and why, and I thought it was all pretty clever. My wife hates it when I watch a hallmark mystery movie with her before I always guess who it is in the first 5 minutes. Still gotta figure out motive and method!

Well, I immediately knew who had done it, though my guess regarding the how fell flat, so I'll give them that. As for the film? Entertaining, if a bit too theatrical -Clue could get away with it given the overtly comedic tone-. For some reason, I honestly did not care that much about the stakes. Just like so many of the overly praised movies of late, it was overrated, imo, but provided much needed escapism when I sat down to watch. I still think Brick is Ryan's best work to date...

I enjoyed it.

Characters could have been a bit better. But decent. (Ha)

Unfortunately the characters are so poor, you don't give a fuck how or care why.

The mystery is that anyone would care how and why with this dumpster fire
