So, what's next for the revolution?

It's Friday night, I'm bored and stuck at home because of freaking work, time to begin speculating on random crap. I'll do Revolution today because, well, people always come up with the dumbest possible ideas for the Rev, which in turn, gives us some GAF funtime.

Okay so on to the Revolution.

Nintendo has been given details little by little on the Revolution and they claim that there's more surprises in store.

So far, here are the features of the Revolution.

- Virtual console: You can save legit roms, which you will purchase from Nintendo using their online service, on to the 512mb Compact Flash cart.
- The system will use the Revmote controller which behaves like a 3D mouse and detects motions precisely.
- Revolution will support Nintendo WiFi connection out of the box.

What do other surprises do you think Nintendo has in store?

Here's some food for thought:
- There is at least one feature from the remote that has not been disclosed. What do you think it is?
- We have no idea what other attachments will be available, any ideas?
- What will the Revolution's official name be? What do you want it to be?
- Why have the sensors, or any mockups of them not surfaced?
- Will the lack of a handle hurt Nintendo financially and emotionally?
- Will Nintendo announce some form of communication device (headset?) to allow us to chat online during gameplay?
- What will the next news information be? Screenshots? Demos? Hardware announcements?
- ... and when?
- Price? Release date?

I am 100% positive the controller will have some sort of new force feedback feature. Remember shortly before TGS when CVG (or some site) posted a story in which they claimed the controller would "pull" back and stuff? Watching the Revolution videos at TGS sold me on this concept. The video where the old man is playing a fishing game with his grandson? He falls back trying the reel in the fish. Well, what if the controller actually emitted a force feedback like this?

It was in one of those post-TGS interviews. I believe from that NOE guy (the first interview not the second one). He said something to the extent of "you haven't seen everything yet" or "there's more surprises in store for the controller" or whatnot. It was posted in several places, look around :p

Heh, one possiblity out of many for the system. Reading Revolution predictions is almost more fun than watching old X-files episodes. Almost as if Revolution is a console of the paranomal :D

If you guys haven't figured out what the surpise is... it's stereoscopic 3D. Why bother making you set up sensors on your tv and NOT make you put on some sort of head display (even if the head display is simply a pair of glasses).

Many people have said this, some that are somewhat reputible, others, like me, who may or may not know what they are talking about - regardless, if you're wondering why there is no HD support, you'll understand why when you see what stereoscopic 3D means (forget everything you think you know about 3D, this is NOT the blue/red glasses era).

Stereoscopic 3D, what else could it be?

Emagine the possibilities!

hey I'm bored too.

- There is at least one feature from the remote that has not been disclosed. What do you think it is? After the revmote I have absolutely no idea what Nintendo has under their sleeves
- We have no idea what other attachments will be available, any ideas? don't care much about this
- What will the Revolution's official name be? What do you want it to be?N5 or Revolution if they decide to stick with it.
- Why have the sensors, or any mockups of them not surfaced? I dunno
- Will the lack of a handle hurt Nintendo financially and emotionally? :lol what?
- Will Nintendo announce some form of communication device (headset?) to allow us to chat online during gameplay? not sure, Nintendo also caters to the kids so I doubt they allow voice chat in their online service could be wrong though.
- What will the next news information be? Screenshots? Demos? Hardware announcements?
- ... and when? I think actual games will be unveiled between the January-March period of 2006, Demos E3 2006 probably, HW announcements again E32006
- Price? Release date? 199-250 price, release date fall 2006

RNES for the win. Not likely to happen because I don't see them using the famicom name for it in Japan.

Head display of any sort contradicts the whole "grandma picks up remote and plays" scenario so I don't expect anything in that direction at all. Plus, Nintendo got burned once with the virtual boy.

Perfect Entertainment Nintendo Interaction System or PE--dammit.

I'm bored too :lol

- absolutely voice recognition, Nintendogs Revolution should be doable

We have no idea what other attachments will be available, any ideas?
- DS conectivity

What will the Revolution's official name be? What do you want it to be?
- Nintendo RS?

Why have the sensors, or any mockups of them not surfaced?
- they aren't finisged

Will the lack of a handle hurt Nintendo financially and emotionally?
-no

Will Nintendo announce some form of communication device (headset?) to allow us to chat online during gameplay?
-yup

What will the next news information be? Screenshots? Demos? Hardware announcements?
... and when?
- probably a demo of all the hardware running, maybe before the end of the year

Price? Release date?
-199$, May-June 2006

Well that would be great for the sword fighting/jedi game because this way you could actually "feel" the clash of the swords heh?XD

Didn't the revmote have a home button?

Why yes it did. The mysterious home button. The only logical functions for the home button is it orders pizza for you when you get hungry, or, a toy clown jumps out of the revolution and stabs you in the throat.

Well they did say that they would try to introduce force feedback. Maybe it will be as loud as the DS rumble pack but it will make loud jedi noises instead.

Oh btw, Lithium or AA(A) batteries?

Has the "Home" button ever been explained? We've all assumed that it must have something to do with the online features, but that doesn't make a great deal of sense (if you ask me).

- We have no idea what other attachments will be available, any ideas?
All I know is that I want a lightsaber/powerglove/headset attachment so I can go complete Jedi on all your asses.

- What will the Revolution's official name be? What do you want it to be?
I'd be happy if they stuck with Revolution, but otherwise they need to bring back the Famicom/NES brand.

- Will the lack of a handle hurt Nintendo financially and emotionally?YES!! Nintendo am do0med

- Will Nintendo announce some form of communication device (headset?) to allow us to chat online during gameplay?
I hope so. 90% of games don't need one... but there's that other 10...

- What will the next news information be? Screenshots? Demos? Hardware announcements?
Weren't we suppose to get some more news at the end of this month? I can't imagine they'll let the 360 launch pass without something.
A guess on the rest: Screenshots - by the end of the year (most likely "leaked"), Demos and Hardware Specs - E3, Performances Specs - never

I've also heard a rumor that Nintendo is dropping the "remote" controller for something less gimmicky. My source is my cousin's roomates brother who knows a VP at Epic. So it must be true! ;)

Microphone.

I have seen this name floating around, I kinda dig it.

NE5 - Nintendo Entertainment 5ystem
It looks fine in logo form, but that's pretty crappy in every other way... "anyfive" wtf?

actual games, i should hope? i mean, as revolutionary as that video of actors swinging around an overgrown ipod shuffle is, i still kind of want to see games. maybe i'm a vile counterrevolutionary in need of reeducation.

I was just thinking it would be said as Nintendo Entertainment System,
but leave the 5 in the so people would see it as Nintendo's 5th system.
Cause yeah, Fivestem or whatever sounds pretty crappy.

I honestly doubt that is possible with such a small device, and it would even prbably be a technical challenge with a regular sized controller. Not to mention that it could be prohibitively expensive.

As for what the controller's final feature is, I doubt it's a microphone. At least a built-in one. I fully expect a microphone attachment as well as a headset attachment for the expansion port. Either that or a wireless headset.

Stereoscopic 3D is still potentially in, but it takes a lot of power, doesn't it? I believe for a stereoscopic image to appear in 3D you have to render it twice, which could be taxing on Hollywood. It's possible, but would potentially widen the graphical difference gap between PS3/Xbox 360 and Revolution.

On the flip side of the coin, Iwata said that you wouldn't be able to tell a difference between Revolution and the others on a regular television. He could have meant that if you put on a glasses peripheral (hopefully, rather sleek looking ones), you get an entirely different experience. Certainly the glasses themselves aren't expensive, as they give you a basic pair at "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" at Disneyland that you can keep or return for reuse. Not to mention that the controller makes even more sense if you're interacting with a 3D object floating in front of you.

Nintendo has stated that there are still a few surprises in store, and the biggest surprise of all would probably be a console with comparable power to Xbox 360 in that little black (or white, or red, or green, or silver) box.

Nintendo DC

D.C. would stand for "directional controller".

If I had my wish, I'd go with...

just curious. but why wouldn't they?

Their whole "not about graphics" philosohy of next gen. It's also much more demanding cpu wise. Then, there's the fact that they've said the rev would work on any display.

All the 'more surprises' talks is just PR. The wand is the revolution's secret. That's it. The only things left to speculate about are stuff like price and release date.

Oh and the freakin' GAMES. They show a controller they call revolutionary and only demonstrate a few demos to some journalist. I'm worried EAD has nothing but a bunch of simple mini-games. I mean jeez, they added the analog stick attachment after western developers complained. What kind of games were they making that only needed the wand.

Maybe nintendo's new direction is low-cost games/hardware so selling only a fraction of the competition would net them profit. I don't know the more I think about rev the worse it seems.

I don't think the display matters one bit.

NVS - Nintendo Virtual System (duh)

A play off of the words 'Envy' or 'Envious'. Rolls off the tongue quite nicely if I do say so myself.

NES V
The Nintendo name is there, the NES brand is there, the fact that it signifies that it's Nintendo's fifth system is there (without slapping a simple # or *extreme* sk8er reference to show the difference). People will know by it's name what it is, especially the people who've ever played an NES. Calling it the NES V is cool too, or V-NES even...sorta has a sci-fi sound to it which fits with it's futuristic approach to the interface.

"The NES V, why join the next generation of gaming without a next generation way to play?"

Um...no. Where did you hear this hogwash? They added the D-PAD to the GCN controller 'cos developers complained, but all the info on the Revolution's controller (from the the analog attachment to the "classic shell") were all Nintendo with no outside influence. And even if they were just planning on making games that just used the Revolution controller (without attachments) so what...I'm sure there's several entry level games that could be made without any attachments needed. Note I said entry level games for entry level gamers...not that all games should/would be made this way on the system.

If PSP can pull off 3D, than so can Revolution. There's been rumors of a PPU for a while which would cut down on alot of the math a CPU would have to do if the 3D was too taxing (not that I think it even would be, like I said the PSP is doing it and so has the NES & PS2 before it). The display also doesn't matter. I think Nintendo would *gladly* give advanced 3D on all types of displays (so everyone can enjoy) rather than higher resolutions that only HDTV's (that not everyone owns) can display. In fact, I think it's almost a give in since the system & game implimentation of 3D would be cheaper than going with HiDef and still give the "wow" factor Iwata spoke of. In fact...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's why Nintendo hasn't shown games yet...'cos that's a surprize feature. I mean really, why show the only "revolutionary" aspect (the remote-controller) *before* you show the games? Especially Nintendo, who's always been so worried about the competition copying them.
