so when is Playstation PC launcher releasing

Of course not but they're making a handheld for PlayStation games.

If PlayStation games are available on PC handhelds already, because their games are on Steam, then how will they make their handheld seem exciting?

Can you not see a problem with their current strategy?
No.
Have you heard of the PSP and PSVita before?
Expect it to be like that.
No relation to PC at all.

Probably by doing nothing since no one outside of sweaty nerds know about those PC handhelds.

Wow, that explains everything.

if they do crossbuy like they used to with vita + PS3 or like xbox play anywhere I would not mind a Sony launcher. They can do it like Gog, only launch on first boot or to buy stuff and keep their lean PSN integration like they have now.

You couldn't play PSP and Vita games on any other handheld.

Are you saying that they're doing handheld exclusives?

I assumed it would be a device to play PS5 games portable. And that's already a thing through Steam.

I do think down the line as device types blur closer together into just different form factor computers....there is sense in Sony making their own app platform that hosts their games and services elsewhere (even if Playstation console is still the main one).

Not just for PC, but also for phones/tablets as both Google and Apple are being forced through government regulation to open their platforms up to other storefront options.

Only difficulty is Sony actually making a good enough place people want to go when they don't control the whole stack from hardware to software. I think Sony make a good overall console, but anytime I have to use PSN as a storefront...it's just a downgrade vs Steam.

They won't.

Imagine, they release the launcher on PC. They would have 2 options:
  • Paid multiplayer. PC bros get mad and go back to Steam.
  • Free multiplayer. Console bros get mad. "Why are PC bros getting a better deal than us?"
Safe thing for them is to not do anything and just release their games on other storefronts.

Helldivers 2 has free online on PC at launch and nobody gets mad. Console people are nice

Everything is a downgrade versus Steam. Except when you don't want to be locked up to Steam.

And for Sony to just tag along wherever Valve decide to go with Steam seems out of character, they usually have all the walls up to control their platform bubble. But they're acting like any other third party dev/publisher in the PC space. Weird.

Maybe they don't see it as a problem, just enjoying the extra games sold, idk.

But PC gaming is widening the reach with new devices in all product segments. Eventually there will be a console-like device with a Steam logo on the market playing all their games except the "at least one per year" that hasn't been ported yet.

Right now I think it's pointless because they don't have enough for a launcher especially since steam has all the PlayStation games right now. I think the only way they could do it is if a game launches day and date like Wolverine on the launcher. But I think a lot of PC gamers would just wait until a steam release.

I hardly need or want another launcher, but it could be interesting if done right.
Their handheld could be another Windows PC, or they could actually use some stuff from Steam OS while removing everything Steam- maybe FreeBSD as an unixoid system is compatible enough that it can be ported, running PC games on that Linux emulation but on freebsd and port their own games on the freebsd system natively with a better performance.
Or it could strengthen their partnership with Epic and be a version of the EGS.
Currently Plus on PC is the same price but less content. No Essential games to keep, no PS5 streaming. This needs to change to justify the same price.

Trophies, crossbuy (at least some cheaper crossbuy upgrade instead of full price?), and for them control and full revenue of their own PC sells. Steam is only stoppable when they kill themselves somehow, and I doubt Sony would even want to truly compete, since it practically would need them to elevate their PC efforts on the same level as their own console.

They can always port over their PS1-3 games

I think the time to do that has come and gone.

The idea can come back, but it will solely depend on how the Switch 2 performs over the year.
If somehow the NS2 sales petter out into irrelevancy, Sony will have a big reason to believe that exclusive proprietary hardware won't stay relevant for long.

If Sony were replaced with Nintendo I could see them putting out their own launcher and removing the games from Steam and only selling them on the launcher so that the next gen Xbox that plays steam would not be able to play those Nintendo games.

However, Sony would never do this.

Nintendo will lose major profit in order to deal with gangster shit like this. Sony is too cowardly and dotard to do this hard as shit move. Nothing against Sony, this is just the reality of this situation. Sony is risk averse. Nintendo will go to the other side of the world to sue someone who gave them the finger in traffic.

Nintendo recently cut off amazon because fuck it why not. Let's cut off the biggest retailer in the US world because they pissed us off over something little. They are back together now, but just remember, Nintendo BEEFS, Sony and Xbox don't. Remember the netflix Zelda TV show?

Yah but it is Sony Playstation. Lots of Playstation fans will support Sony's Playstation PC launcher, me included.
Yeah, that's probably why Stellar Blade hit 1 million sales 19 times faster on Steam than on PS5. You know, Sony's own console and console launcher. 😂

Other than that you are delusional. Not one person in this thread support this idea. Only you.

If that's what it is, it's DOA. The leaks sound like another AMD handheld using the same hardware as the PC handhelds. So it will very likely be very similar to the PC handhelds but let you play your PSN games. Which would be a good thing if you are heavily invested in digital PSN games. If you're all physical then you are probably shit out of luck.

It's also worth noting that it might have already launched.

In September of 24, NCSoft integrated PC distribution into their Purple launcher and some Sony PC games were apart of that as part of their strategic alliance with NCSoft.

It's totally possible that Sony is farming out the production of said launcher to NCSoft before either taking it over or rebranding it under the operation of NCSoft.
