So who thinks the Xbox 360 will have backwards compat with the Cube?

I've heard some interesting news regarding talks between Nintendo and Microsoft over this past week which would leave me to believe, something big is going to hit. Possible BOMBA? maybe, only time can tell.

Unbelievable...though it would only be positive for Nintendo...not so much for MS...and lots of N-fans' blood would be spilt on their keyboards if true. Hopefully, it's true! ;P

Yeah, I was skeptical at first as well. However, the more I thought about it, the more I would think that Nintendo would test the water on 1st Party/3rd Party software with MS because pretty much anyone that was thinking of getting a cube but didn't, this would be a good time to pick up those titles.

Oh, come on. They announced b/w compatibility for Revolution precisely for this reason!

I don't remember WHERE I read it (maybe even here) but there was this TOTALLY CRAZY rumour coming from UbiSoft "employee" that MS wouldn't release 360 in Japan and Nintendo wouldn't release Revolution in US.

The juicy part?
360 games would work on Rev. and vice versa!

Yeah, 100% genuine horse shit, that was my thoughts also.

Yeah I remember that too Borys. Because Microsoft had such a hard time in the homes of the japanese folks, that was a consideration of a route they could go.

:lol Never fail to impress me, GAF.

Err, anyway, no.

Nintendo fans wouldn't have any more reason to get pissed off than MS fans (assuming this was a partnership versus a takeover or something like that). Neither would, IMO (although I'm probably terrible at predicting fan response ;)).

Anyway, the chances of this are negligible.

This would be a completely lobsided arrangement, don't you think? Japan wouldn't be a big loss to MS, relatively speaking, but the US would be to Nintendo. I guess they'd still be selling software, but...

...yeah, not going to happen ;)

The Xbox 360 won't even be BC with the Xbox but you think it will be with the Cube.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

"We don't seem to know many concrete facts on the Revolution besides its name and partners. I think the chances of a Nin/MS partnership are pretty slim, but not impossible. The clues:

-So many rumor mills hinting at a possible partnership (from IGN to OXM to EGM)
-Revolution = 360 Degrees in one sense of the word
-Microsoft has tried to buy out Nintendo in the past, but failed
-Both companies are using ATI for graphics
-Both companies are using IBM for the CPU
-Xenon tech is like a Super Gamecube in many respects (efficiency, etc.)
-Devs talk about PS3/X360 development; never Rev
-Sony entered handheld market; Nin must counter strongly in home market
-Microsoft doesn't compete in handheld market; could enter through GBA/DS line
-Both companies' home console market share is paltry compared to the PS2
-Both companies have U.S. offices in Seattle next to each other
-MS has made strong inroads in the western "adult/mature" games market
-Nintendo brand still strong in Japan and younger western market
-Both companies' 1st/2nd party games don't overlap much; eerily complement each other"

Victim - could you post the link to what your talking about?
Wish I could. The only thing I have to say in my defense is that sure, a lot of this is hearsay and there is no "link" to the source of the info, but this is just my best guess and what Nintendo and Microsoft might be doing to combat Sony.

Who did you hear it from? There may be no link, but there is surely an AIM name, telephone number, or address.

You've heard, from where? From who? Someone in the industry? Someone who worked at MS? Homer Simpson?

Well, that I suppose I can reveal. A developer on the so called 'X" team.

In one month at E3, we will find out if its true. I suggest giving him a tag to remind the mods to ban him if it doesn't come true :)

what what what??

I heard the 360 is actually a techinorganic parasite you have to implant inside a GC so that it will have nutrients as it grows

Well I dunno if this is smart or not. If X360 was BC with gamecube, Nintendo could boost some software sales, but at the same time they could lose buyers on the Revolution since that feature is not exclusive for their console anymore.

How do you know him? I'm just wondering if your friends with the guy, or whatever.
Personal friend of mine. He worked at HP as an intern for about 2 yrs, then looked for a job over at Microsoft, eventually got into the R&D team, which lead to him being on the Xbox project team of which he is now a part of the "X" Team (internal) that Microsoft has. Obviously not going to give his name since he'd get fired on the spot, but what he told me was: "Sony isn't going to know what hit them this time..... just picture the best of the gaming industry on a single platform."

That's the info I'm going off of.

What would be completely stupid is if Xbox 360 could infact play GC games but not Xbox games. Talk about market confusion. :lol :lol

SEGA + MS on the 360.
That's what he means.

Did he mention Nintendo specifically?

I think the theory is that the Xbox360, or one of its iterations, WOULD be the revolution.

This is just Nintendo 3rd party nonsense...

It could be awesome if it happened though.

So he says that to you and somehow you get Nintendo+MSoft next gen? Did he specifically mention Nintendo? To me that just sounds like typical PR.

Imagine Xbox 360 playing new Zelda though? Holy shit. Then we can begin to talk 6-7 million Zeldas sold worldwide. Since the xbots would definitley buy it.
