I was talking to a buddy who is "The biggest hatin' ass n-word" (his words, not mine) and he said he couldn't bring himself to hate Todd, even though he despises Bethesda and most/all celeb developers.

It got me thinking and its true; the internet's sentiment towards Todd is a lot milder than what backlash others have received despite having many more scandals and blunders associated with him. Why is that? Is it his voice? Stature? Looks?

Just listen to him talk at the Game Awards. He's a master of public speaking. Extremely polished delivery, and a innate ability to inspire and sell with his words. He's also relatively handsome for a game developer.

Despite knowing how great he is at selling people on his vision, I do think he still speaks from the heart when he talks about his games. Regardless of criticism people have for him, he's still a visionary from the old guard that genuinely has pushed gaming to new heights and tries to create ambitious products.

And I wouldn't call any of the backlash he's gotten "mild." You can't even hardly mention his name without a full thread derail of the same shit talking that has been present for a decade.

He comes across kinda awkward and quirky, and I suppose a lot of people like that (genuine or PR manufactured?) personality about him. But most people sure as shit don't like him as a game director or producer, because pretty much literally everything after Morrowind was worse than what came before. I shudder to think how that trend will look like after Starfield.
 
I mean, he has the highest Charisma build of all Fallout players. Guy is rockstar when it comes appearance, looking right and left on key and shit.

I don't know why anyone would hate him to begin with? He's a producer and lead figure, obviously he's gonna do the marketing and sales pitch of his games.

But he has lead and produced more excellent and massively popular games than most producers have in similar careers (how many exactly is a matter of opinion).
 
I don't really like him. Ever since his "who's laughing now" video where he's explaining being bullied and then showing the bullies how amazing he is. He seems very bitter and not particularly happy.

He seems like he has lost his edge the last few years. He's directed some amazing games and is an industry legend. Guys richer than I ever will be so fair play to him. But I wouldn't put him in the same category as a Ken Levine or Kojima or a Dan Houser. He's nowhere near those levels.

That is a very bold statement to make. And probably very wrong.
He has lied so many times, that he is becoming one of the most disliked.
 
I don't really understand the reason to hate him. He's been connected to some very memorable titles that meant a lot to people, some that people still play to this day. He's always come off as humble and straight forward, so, I think it adds to the "not sure why anyone would hate him" thing. I also don't recall anyone gushing over him either. He's just recognized, existing, and people hope that he continues to make good games, lol.
 
Ever since I saw and interview with him many years ago where he was proud of the fact that he made the team strip away mechanics and systems in their games to appeal to the masses I've had a deep loathing for the guy.

But I can't deny that he did help them conquer the mainstream crowd and see massive success.
 
Its because Todd Howard is historically more important than Jesus or Napoleon. He invented video gaming and reinvented it several times. He is probably the greatest genius to have ever lived.

What scandals? The fuck is talking about bruh?
 
Because Hodd Toward is a humble legend.

Even he jokes about certain things with us like "it just works." He's passionate and a visionary, and keeps giving players great games even if they aren't as good as prior works.

Plus he doesn't feel sleazy like say Phil Spencer.
