Mentions online voice chat:

Speaking of which (pun intended), Fireteam Bravo features headset support. While it won't officially be announced by Sony for another day or two, it's been one of the worst kept secrets in the industry for a little while now. We were only able to test out the voice support for a short while during our time with the game, but what we experienced was great, so keep an ear out for more info on that in very near future.

9.5 Presentation
Excellent cutscenes and slick menu system carries over from the console series.
6.0 Graphics
Large environments are a tradeoff for low-poly geometry.
9.0 Sound
Excellent sound effects, music and voiceovers. Easily some of the best on the system.
8.0 Gameplay
The enemy AI is problematic at times, but the excellent SOCOM gameplay is mostly intact otherwise.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
Online could theoretically last forever, or at least until electricity is no longer needed and the PSP runs its course. Instant Action also does well to extend the singleplayer modes.

8.3
Impressive OVERALL

Sweet.

That's a fair score from my time in beta before the headset.

Add voice support like they did and I would have gone a bit higher.

Im not sure what you meant with this. Imagine that your greatest technology is a fireplace and that you scream at your own shadow. That's me. Explain this in simple words please.

The funny thing is those are just like my headphones I use now except with that microphone attached. These hook up through USB right? It would be neat if you could pop the microphone off and use them as headphones.

That's the damn truth, only the nonhetero would say otherwise!!

I like the pre-troll preparations. nice.

anywho...I can't wait to get this!!! SOCOM online at work and in bed! Wonderful. Really loving and using the PSP like never before. Will the headset be available when I pick up the game?

I'm enjoying the fact that Wario has been spreading his sarcasm into so many threads, he's starting to make people BELIEVE!

That deserves serious praise, and a heck of a lot of bandwagon jumpin'.

TAMAGOTCHI TRIPLE THREAT!

Btw, that Headset was proven false.
Where? Link?

Anyone have the actual headset pics?

If it was proven false, why did IGN mention the worst kept secret? Were they merely referring to the e-mail to beta testers mentioning voice?

Hope to god stores have this tomorrow. Just picked up my new router today in anticipation for this and Mario Kart, and I can't wait anymore! :D

Ships tomorrow, as usual probably not till Wednesday. Get used to it.

anyone know if this uses the DNAS protocol? it was added in firmware 2.00 but i dont think any games has actually used it yet

Too bad Fire Team Bravo is bug-laden ASS. This game is fucking awful. The only reason it scored so high is because it's online, and there's not a lot of competition on the PSP.

And moneyhats. Yadda, yadda.

Seriously, the beta was downright embarrassing. I felt like I was playing a Duke Nukem 3D mod trying to turn it into Rainbow Six. And I LOVED SOCOM II.

Edit: I'm sure the final is marginally better, but I'm definitely spending my own money to find out.

Edit 2: Shit, I meant NOT my own money.. Argh. See smartass post below. ;)

If you were playing a beta, then it more than likely would have bugs. That's one of the purposes of the beta test, to point out bugs so that they don't appear in the final product.

I'm sure Sony would be happy to hear that you're spending your own money to find out. :D

Cool review Che, but I'm just wondering about something. Can you confirm the quality of the *Voice Chat* functions (like is it clear/lag free). If all is good, than hopefully they will implent this in future Online PSP games/features.

The voice chat feature is surprisingly good. You push a button to talk, just like the PS2 versions. It isn't absolutely necessary of course but it adds so much to a handheld game. Pretty amazing actually.

Yeah, about the edits in the review -- the server takes like a half hour at times to refresh it with edited versions. So chances are, you caught an un-copyedited version. Grr. Most best!

The beta was ok, wasn't wild about the map though. I'm thinking I'll rent this and if I get addicted I know what to do next.

And why am I seeing pictures of the DS? Get that shit outta here.

So if the headset is indeed being used how much power do you think it will draw. Will it draw power at all? Sorry for the dumb question. I thought the headset was wireless.

Yeah, they're essentially the same thing as the PSYC headphones, only with a mic (some people have them with the neckpiece, other sets just have the earphones.) Except for my glasses, I like the Sony headphones I have, so I don't see how this will be a problem. And as far as style, they're the same as what's out there, they just don't look great in the box.

I'm against the headset idea. While it seems nice on the surface, you all know there will be a time when you'll see nothing but 12 yr. old asshats running around screaming at people through their mics while piggybacking off of Starbucks' wifi....
