Famous sci fi author. Wrote the books and short stories that Blade Runner, Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly, and Minority Report were based on
Oh. big fan of the movies. Are the books well written?
if they are so good they inspire people to produce amazing scifi movies, why wouldn't they be ?
So, I plan on streaming this today, but I wanted to know if the gamepad controls are worthwhile and up to the task of streaming it on HTPC and on my comfy couch. Otherwise I'll stream it from my gaming.
Input anyone?

what are are the fps of the PS4 version?
Hmm... good premises don't indicate good stories just because.
plenty of great movies based on short stories or books that are just really badly written.
I'll look for the author. i find it hard to read good sci fi tbh. but i am sure that is due to me not finding the right author.
It's 30 fps 98% of the time. A few drops during scripted moments, but nothing too bad. A few pauses for loading in a few spots here and there. Was wondering the same, and just general impressions on performance.
The 10% discount is making me lean that way.
I am using the gamepad, (360 controller) and it works really well. Even tho there is no setting to adjust the speed of the joystick for view.
Gamepad works perfectly
Anyone wanna help me? I'm not too far in - I got to theand am in the water now. Just found thecomms centerand walked a bit farther to thelittle robot? Can't figure out how to get instation in the water
I'm honestly surprised you've not heard of Philip K Dick. He's widely regarded as one of the greatest sci fi authors ever, and was hugely influential on the medium's future.
I am excited to pick up some of his work then. Anything i should pick first?

Have you seen Blade Runner? That's based on "Do Androids Dream of Sleep"
Ubik.

whos' that?
The game opens to a quote from him. Heavily influenced IMO.

Ubik.
I just died a little.
I recommend getting an anthology of his short stories first as a lot of his best work is there, then hit the novels (I mentioned a few above). Gimme a shout if you want recommendations, Brau. Love to hear what you think.
Hands down the best novel he ever wrote.
well... excuuuuuse me.
It was an honest question.. and now that i know.. i will read it and hopefully praise it for how good it is.
Picked Ubik.
Really? What's the quote (in spoilers or PM)?
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away."
I could barely play a few minutes of Amnesia and I'm currently 2 hours into SOMA. You should be goodOkay, so Amnesia was too much for me. Will I be able to play this game? I want to support what this developer is doing but if this is on the same level as Amnesia there's no way I'll be buying this right now.
Great. I'll pick this up at the weekend most likely. This setting also appeals way more than Amnesia to me, personally.I could barely play a few minutes of Amnesia and I'm currently 2 hours into SOMA. You should be good
I played a couple hours and I'm not really feeling it.
I'm in the bit after the shuttle crashes and I have to say that the ocean walking parts are the worst thing about the game. They're boring, sluggish and a chore. Not even the underwater robots can spice it up. Bioshock 2 was better in that regard, more condensed and interesting underwater segments.
There are also occasional stutters and freezes. I played a little bit of Amnesia for the first time yesterday to get into the SOMA mood, and that game was better than this one so far and more immersive. I love the interface (buttons, levers, etc.) though.
I like the choice mechanics- didn't pull Carl's lever so I had to deal with that one monster in the room where you log onto the computers to power the comms center. Afterwards, thinking that without safety systems I'd be too stranded to help her anyway, I let Amy die. The fact that Simon was some sort of robot was quite evident, called it the moment Simon woke up in the facility.
The atmosphere isn't very potent (I blame the sluggish movements) and also is it just me or isn't it shitty design to have your character limp after every death unless you find a cyber sphincter?
Overall, I'll be playing but it's a disappointment so far.
Also, my CPU is i73630QM and my GPU is Nvidia Geforce 650M. Which settings should I use? I went with the autodetect but I think that made it sub-30 FPS.
Link me up to whcih one and i'll pick it up right now. Lately i have 40 mins to kill on the MAX. so a good book would be welcome. I am excited to read this now.![]()
Ubik is amazing. It's one of my favourite books.
As far as his short story work, try this for starters.
whos' that?
Incredible science fiction author, died in the 80s, wrote the books and/or short stories that Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly were based on, among many others. He's known for premises that explore the nature of reality and consciousness, what it means to be human, and other metaphysical concepts.
Edit: Wow, I'm late to this explanation party.
Edit: Ubik and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch are excellent, as others have said, and so are The Man in the High Castle (currently being adapted into a TV series by Amazon) and the lesser-known Dr. Bloodmoney.
Fix for stuttering on PC (Nvidia):
-Enable adaptive v-sync and triple buffering via control panel
-Disable threaded optimization via control panel
-Turn OFF the in-game AA and set refresh rate to the same as your monitor.
There will still be slight hiccups when loading a level but you should no longer get the "turn around quickly and plummet to 15 FPS" thing happening.
Worked for me and a few others on Steam, the game is far more enjoyable without the sudden drops.
whats the download size for the PS4?
