I was just in the 1up sold thread on the gaming side and the conversation in there is exactly like the arguments that go on over here. Never seen such pandemonium.

Lemme give you guys teh recap

1. 1up gets bought by ugo
2. people get fired
3. Start their own podcasts and put up donation button
4. They make 12,000 dollars
5. People get irate(one of those people is important to this forum) that people would donate money to this cause
6. All hell breaks loose

How can someone be familiar with GAF but be this naive about the Gaming Side? Any given thread over in that sordid wastescape has the volatility potential of 1000 poligaf arguments. Video games am serios busines.

Jesus. But then again, props to them for finding an audience to fleece. Who would have imagined that people who can buy $400 entertainment systems and $60 games however many times over had fucking disposable income. It's like the Penny Arcade fiasco all over again, but with absolutely nothing to show for the cause but some a couple of jerks' inevitable failed livers.

Its why most of posts are here like 95% fanboys not just for systems but franchises or companies, say one thing and it will always start circle jerk argument ruining the point of why most ops start topics.

I hate talking about how to mod the gaming side, but there aren't enough general rules to discourage people who come in derail and play it off like they weren't trying troll. Shame there aren't more admins the forum with a few different rules could have a big culling of all the shitheads who think one way and can't tolerate others who don't feel the way they do.

It never will. I doubt many of them have even heard of the OT. I remember at an old forum of mine, thousands of users posted in the PSP forums, and only a handful in the OT.

As much as i can't stand the console war shitfest going on over at Gaming, the OT seems to becoming like GAF = Girl Age Forums. It's hilarious at times, it brings sympathy at times, but man have these threads turned up more often than anything else now.

I try to enjoy OT talking about other forms of entertainment like movies, TV series, current events, tech/gadgets, internet jokes and the like...hope it stays that way.

It's tough. There are a lot of knuckleheads on the gaming side who exist solely to troll and young kids also. I imagine its very difficult to moderate.

It probably doesn't help that the moderation on the gaming side isn't so hot either but I digress...

And on a general note, there is nothing wrong with these people making donations to a group that they want to continue to be entertained by. There are a lot of people who really enjoyed the 1up show (I'm not one of them, as I typically don't like to listen to gaming talk) and want it to continue.

The only reason 3 worked is because these guys had gained F-list celebrity status by covering E-list entertainment media with an oddly tribal audience.

I'm not presuming to tell people how to spend their money, but the fact that people have given a bunch of total strangers who don't really need it $12,000 is puzzling and amusing to say the least.

the ex-1up guys never did that. gaf and the internet at large asked them to put up a donation button so they did. they already had plans to begin with, to start doing new shows soon before donations were even thought of.

Way back wheneverthefuck, they asked for donations to keep the site running. They made far more than they needed, never returned the excess, and eventually became rather successful. Cue people getting their dicks in a jar because PA charges a shitload for all their merch. Especially that goddamn game.

It's a total non-thing as I remember it that only nutjobs care about, but I might be missing something.
