Somehow OT escaped and made it to the gaming side

I'm pretty sure I've seen many people offer to donate to GAF and it was refused/ruled out pretty quickly in the last few years. The initial donations were to keep the site alive when Gaming-Age was withdrawing support. Calling hypocrisy 5 years on is a bit of a stretch.

Whatever anyway...:D

It's not every single thread on the gaming side, though. The threads there that are full on stupid are quite easy to ignore as well.
 
I got out from that thread from the begining when everyone was crying as if it was some unfathomable, earth shaking tragedy or soemthing. So it was already forthtold, this is just the killer stroker.

I dunno how much I can even post on gaf anymore, these biggy threads suck to much of my time.
I should get paid by gaflings for my posts, theyre pretty good, I think. Donate me some money please and I make some more awesome posts for you. Maybe I even quote you, 15% extra though.

People should be able to donate to whatever the fuck they want without others passing judgement. Podcasts are obviously not in the same realm of importance as famine relief but that is beside the point.

Isn't that exactly the same situation here? 1up has "withdrawn support" for these guys and now they're starting their own venture. And how long ago it happened is meaningless, there's no statute of limitations on this sort of thing.

OP: You see, I made my comment in that thread and I got out...mainly because it doesn't really concern me. It's not that I don't care...it's just that I don't care much.

I didn't see any reason to re-enter that thread...nor do I see why you made this thread.

With that said: people actually donated money? At least donate to a good cause, folks!

Who would have imagined that people who can buy $400 entertainment systems and $60 games however many times over had fucking disposable income. what's wrong with that? People have a right to spend their disposable income any way they wish. If they find value out of their podcast, donation should occur. Also, the people donating are at least subconsciously aware that this is a public good, so they are donating to compensate for the free rider issue.

I'll admit I've done this just once- and that was donating to the group translating my favorite manga series (which will never get translated any other way)

i play both sides and i see a few others who do it regularly too. i don't really see GAF as split like that. i read one side until it slows down then i refresh my tab that has the other side open. i always have both open and quite like it. i never really understand why there's so much hatred from the OT towards the gaming side and vice versa. well scratch that, the gaming side doesn't really have anything negative to say about the OT. but you get what i'm saying.
 
Yeah... I don't like Gaming side either, when i started lurking GAF it took me like a month to completely forget the Gaming side and be almost a 100% OT lurker. Now as a poster i'm pretty much the same.
 
What the fuck is..."gaming side"? NeoGAF only consists of the OT.

How bout donating the money to the homeless or something if you're going to just throw it away like that. It isn't like these people can't get jobs elsewhere or continuing recording podcasts FOR FREE. Throw it up on iTunes and there is 0 server cost... I mean really?

I imagine it costs money to put shit on iTunes. Probably not a lot--certainly $12,000 seems pretty excessive--but if it were completely free Apple would be giving space away for nothing, and if there is one thing Apple as a company does not stand for it is giving things away for nothing. I do think that, especially at times like these, there are probably worthier causes to give to, but hell--it's their money.
 
Actually, I've been trying to think of a way the OT side can pull a prank on the Gaming side.

Step #1: Create thread discussing our plans in OT to pull a prank on the gaming side.
Step #2: Create a thread with some megaton breaking news in the Gaming side.
Step #3: Have the OT people confirm the breaking news.
Step #4: See who on the gaming side falls for it.
Step #5: The people on the gaming side who fall for the news obviously don't go to OT.
Step #6: We'll isolate the people who don't go to OT. They'll be forever marked and tainted.

anyway, I don't know what WasabiKing was getting upset about. This is among the most hardcore of gaming forums so it's not unexpected that $12000+ was donated. This isn't the most hardcore of environmentalists forums where you can expect users regularly donating to the WWF or something. There are other outlets for donating to other causes.

The people who donated are just in a smaller bubble than others so this 1Up thing is very important to them.


No, I did not donate, lol, I'm donating money to my education as we speak :lol
