I stumbled on the twitter of one of the staff, and kept digging to find out more. They seemed professionals and not fanboys. So yeah, most likely paid by Satya (the timing with the MS quarterly report is deafening).
What Nadella noticed at Xbox was that the feedback they were receiving was all contaminated by fanboys... That's why Redfall received a good internal review.
And that's why he shut down the "Xbox Ambassadors" program and also cut funding for websites that inflated Xbox game ratings. Curiously, the various websites with "Xbox" in their names began to appear shortly after a wave of mockery over Xbox games receiving "yellow diarrhea" ratings.
It turned out that this "initiative" by Phil Spencer resulted in trashy games like Redfall being released, not canceled.
If anyone wonders why Sony doesn't get involved in "console wars" like Xbox, this thread and my post are a good example.
Because in the medium and long term, your brand will go down the drain, and you'll be claiming that "making quality games doesn't change that" because you're completely alienated by the circle of sycophants who say that "Starfield is a great game, people haven't played it because they're stuck on the PlayStation."
No Phil Spencer, it's you who doesn't know how to make games, it's you who is incompetent; it's not the entire market that refuses to buy your games on your platform, it's you who doesn't know how to produce quality games.
