Son lost 700h+ elden ring save

Worst father of all time. It's like buying yourself eggs and not letting your son eat them because they're too expensive.

jk. dont do any save manipulation on ps5. sony are cunts about it. just let it go. kid will learn life isnt fair.

no. they removed that. classic jimbo. you could do that on ps4.

what you can do is do a backup and move save files along with system data. i had to do that recently when i moved to the ps5 pro. but its a full backup of system files and save files. so you might be overwriting other newer save files.
I wish i knew : (

reezoo reezoo GAF sends their condolences to your son. I think that save is gone.

I once lost a "perfect" Final Fantasy Tactics save file with all the secret characters, best equipment, and everyone at level 99. Looking back now, it taught me to love the journey, not the destination. Your kid will be stronger through this in the end.

I remeber when i spend $80 on all Little Big Planet DLC only to find out Region Lock existed, that was painful

Unfortunately the only way you can do it is to backup the whole thing. You can't just backup Saves unlike with PS4.

This will work on PS4 games running on PS5 but not on PS5 games.

You can load PS4 saves in PS5 version so it might actually work.

Lost a 90 hour save on PS4 Yakuza Kiwami. THE ONLY GAME that didn't upload to the cloud for some reason.

Brutal. I can't even imagine the feeling of that shit being gone.

That's harsh. Send him my condolences and let him know we've all been there!

Maybe fib a bit about the 700 hours part but I'm sure most of us have lost 70 hours.

It's so annoying that they gate backing up saves behind the sub. I mean unless you back up the WHOLE system...that doesn't count. Nintendo does the same gating. Completely pointless. It should take a second to copy that onto a USB stick.

Go again. What is he? A pussy? I refuse to believe that. He's a nerd and he should be proud of it. What he's done in those 700 hours, he can now do in 100. Be better

Otherwise he can go outside and touch some grass. Nobody wants that.

My advice:

College Life Drinking GIF

This is what I would probably do. Back in the day, my Mass Effect and Skyrim 360 saves got hosed. This happened right before Mass Effect 3 came out. I was gutted.
From what I understood the kid is 12, so this solution should better be avoided :pie_eyeroll:

Ignoring Sony's backwards policy of only giving save backups to PS+ subscribers in 2025...

If getting an edited save doesn't work, as much as it seems like 700 hours haven been wasted that's acutallly 700 hours of training. It won't take him a quarter of that to get back to where he was with a new character. Get an OP build and wreck things and you can be half way there in 50-100.

Good games and hardware, shit company.

Tell your son I'm sorry for his loss. I can't imagine getting so far in a souls game at his age and having that happen.

hmm... may be a life lesson, I also learned something when i was kid, broke my toy aeroplan in anger, tried to fix it for 3 days... never broke a single toy after that.
Im talking more about after 700 hours maybe a 12 year old should try something else. Even just a different game.

It goes like this:
PS: Good hardware - shit software.
Xbox: Good software - shit hardware.
Nintendo: So-so hardware - So-so software

that's pretty common. only 1 account needs PS+ for everyone on the console to be able to play online and play PS+ games. but cloud saves is a feature only the main PS+ account can use sadly

F**king Sony ... and you can't even save PS5 save games to external storage.

My condolences man. Reminds me of losing my pokemon blue save the very same day I leveled my mewtwo to level 100.

Hope you are able to recover it. And if not, well it sucks but it's just a game. Plus after 700 hours it might be time to move on lol.

Gaming. You invest your most precious asset - time - which in the end is worth nothing. Gaming adds nothing to people's life.

its insane that cloud saves are paywalled.. i can go onto steam and download a game that i haven't played in 15 years and it still has my cloud save

I can sympathize. I had a 250+ hour Splatoon 2 save (one of the games that Nintendo did not add cloud save support for) when my launch Switch GPU decided to shit the bed. I got an extended warranty repair through Nintendo which was just a straight up refurbished replacement. BUT they didn't transfer any of the data off the original Switch, so when I got it the replacement I lost all of my progress and unlocks.

Totally sucked.

As title say my son lost 700h+ elden ring save due to corruption and reformatting of PS5. I have PSN+ so my saves are fine. Is there any way to recover that?

edit: He knows his stats my heart now, is it possible to create a build using some editor and add to PS5?
Yes.... Install PS4 version and you can edit it on PC.

You can't save games to an external device on PS5?
You can if its a PS4 game, you can backup your save to an USB driver. But with PS5 games you cant do that anymore. They really should have ofered free cloud saves if they removing the ability to backup the saves.

Sorry to hear that. I guess this is an opportunity to move on, idk.. Best of luck anyway.

losing 40-50 hours would suck, but 700 hours feels like divine intervention, what could your son possibly have left to do in the game after that amount of time? please don't tell me they haven't finished the game yet.

Bad news is that the save is lost. Good news is that anything he valued can be speed run in a dozen well planned hours. Easiest solution is a starter save on PC but a copy can set you back ~$40.
