REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The next title in SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will be exclusive to Nintendo’s Wii U home console and Nintendo 3DS portable system. Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata announced the details of a new partnership with SEGA during a new Nintendo Direct video announcement today. Sonic Lost World is a new action platforming game, and more information about it will be announced before the E3 2013 video game trade show begins on June 11.

The Nintendo Direct also announced Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for Wii U, and revealed that additional SEGA Game Gear games would be coming to the Virtual Console service for Nintendo 3DS. Outside of SEGA news, Nintendo announced that select Wii U games featured at E3 2013 will soon be playable at participating Best Buy stores, the launch date for New Super Luigi U, new Pikmin 3 game details and additional information about a variety of previously announced Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games.

“The onetime rivalry between Mario and Sonic has grown into a friendship that has never been closer,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “These announcements in conjunction with SEGA demonstrate the commitment we have to bringing great games to the Wii U platform, and set the stage for our upcoming announcements at E3.”

This better be the rumored Sonic Dimensions, developed by the Sonic Team + EAD. Iwata said it's a collaboration iirc.

Is it just this particular game that's exclusive, then? Iwata kind of made it sound like it was a franchise wide exclusivity agreement, similar the Gamecube Resident Evil one.

I take it as the follow-up to Sonic Colors, considering the Wii U and 3DS exclusivity.

If it's anything like that game it'll be great for fans of quality Sonic games.

Perhaps after Colors and Generations, Sonic's darkest days truly are behind him.

So is this "partnership" between Sega and Nintendo just for this game, or is it for several future Sonic games?

Also this is pretty much a solid indicator that Sonic will probably be returning in the next Smash Bros. (if there was ever any doubt)

So is this the only new Sonic game coming or is it just a separate game for Nintendo systems?

If this is the actual follow-up to Generations maybe it'll be worth playing.

Sonic developed by Nintendo? Yes please.

The best part of the screen/concept art is that they used the original Genesis Tornado design :D

I take it as the follow-up to Sonic Colors.

It better be.

Sonic Colors was the best Sonic game since the Genesis, and the first one since then I would rate as a good all around game, not just an acceptable Sonic game.

The way he phrased it made it sound timed.

The screen/art they showed made me super curious though, I think I'll be watching this title to see if anything good comes out of it.

Wow. I thought Wii U was history!

Anyway, the concept art looks very interesting. It could be anything, but it's definitely going to have a lot of neat locations and settings to roll around.

I gotta go re-read that rumor. The fact that Nintendo mentioned "partnership" is interesting.

Also that planet is made of hexagons.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
All the rumours were talking about the next main Sonic game as Sonic 14: it was going to be released on PS3,360,Wii U,Vita,3DS,PC,PS4 and 720. Now, it's just Wii U and 3DS. Something must have happened...
