It may be a money hat (even though I'm not sure how money hats work) but if anything, it's one of the more "natural" partnerships considering Sonic's success on Nintendo platforms.

This is not the same thing as if, say, Nintendo tried to money hat GTA V. It's more sensible.

It's been said before but the bulk of the Sonic fan base is the same as the Nintendo fan base. Sonic has sold the best on Nintendo hardware since Sega went third party. If Sega is going to partner with anyone and make Sonic exclusive its only logical it would be with Nintendo on Nintendo hardware. This is why if Sega ever gets bought by anyone I want it to be Nintendo buying them. It's a natural fit even outside of the Sonic franchise.

Looking forward to this. I loved Sonic Colors and if the quality is at that level or higher then great!

I wonder if the Sonic Mod community is butthurt for the fact that they won't be able to mod this game, unless it ever comes to PC.

Hopefully, especially if it's exclusive, it could be as good as Colors!

Sega Europe has handed the publishing and distribution rights to the next three Sonic the Hedgehog titles exclusively to Nintendo.

The move follows Sega's continued focus on the PC market with hits like Football Manager, Total War and Company of Heroes - and compliments Nintendo's portfolio of family-friendly titles. The deal includes Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and one other game to be revealed at a later date.

"Sega have chosen to exclusively partner with Nintendo to distribute or publish the next three Sonic the Hedgehog titles throughout Europe and Australia," Jurgen Post, COO of Sega Europe, confirmed to GamesIndustry International.

The deal is an extension of the publishing duties Nintendo has taken on for previous Olympic Games titles. Sega US will still publish Lost World in the region.

"This is a strategic partnership that does not affect our existing distribution network across these territories and with whom we are looking forward to working with on the upcoming releases of Total War: Rome II and Company of Heroes 2," he added.

Sega now has three main pillars of business after a restructuring process that took place last year. As well as the PC business, the company is also building its mobile and digital efforts, sidelining the more traditional boxed console market.

I think that single bit of art look pretty cool. But an exclusive Sonic game is hardly interesting or even new. What about Secret Rings, Black Knight, and Colors?

There was once a post on here that speculated the possibility of Sammy spinning Sega off, and a platform holder purchasing the company. I wonder how long until this happens.

So this is an "exclusive" spin-off series much in the vein of Secret Rings / Black Knight / Colors I'm guessing. The next big Sonic game, AKA the "sequel" to Generations, will be everywhere.

Well, fuck Wii U, fuck SEGA. Why break stuff that has been working? Generations had great sales, it's alive to this date due mods (since they never released any DLC to it, even though it would've been a goldmine). Even though Colors is critically acclaimed, nobody complained because you could play it on an emulator.

Now they come with this exclusive bullshit, for a low-end hardware console doomed to failure. We're in the verge of a new generation, with amazing everything, better everything and they're limiting a whole franchise to a console with 2006's technology and a handheld console that the only "Pro" in a list of pros and cons is the 3D effect and perhaps the Nintendo games.

Honestly? I'm pissed. I'm MAD. Not just mad that I'd have to get an console with last-gen's specs to play one of my favorite franchises but also because Wiiaboo U isn't that great in terms of sales (and won't be any better with X720 and PS4 releasing later this year). So... You can expect Sonic series to be canned due the lack of sales if they decide to go foward with this Nintendo partnership.

You know what's REALLY great about that image? I see forest levels, desert levels, lava levels, ice levels, ocean levels, and NO CITY LEVELS!

Hopefully they are building off of Sonic Generations.

Colours is a mainline title. That's why it's in Generations.

It goes 1, 2, CD, 3&K, SA, SA2, Heroes, 2006, Unleashed, Colours, Generations, and now this.

The thing I find most crazy is enough people care enough about Sonic to crash GAF!

But yeah, I'm one of those guys who have bought almost every Sonic game, from Genesis to now. I skipped a majority of GBA and DS (and ohter portable) Sonics, because he belongs on console.

I hope the 3DS and Wii U games are separate.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that Sonic Colors was exclusive to Nintendo. This shouldn't come as a surprise.

Looking forward to hearing more about it at E3. I've held off on a Wii U but with this, The Wonderful 101 and Wind Waker HD coming I'll probably end up getting one soon.
