Sounds nice, but won't that draw further attention away from Shadow the Hedgehog?

Still, hopefully they take this as an opportunity to get back to basics and rethink how they do a few things in Sonic games. Maybe instead of making another Sonic Adventure or even a game with multiple characters, just heavily refine Sonic's play. Like how Sonic Rush only has Sonic and Blaze playable (we know the multiplayer racing is only 2 player max), no Shadow or Amy or Tails or Knuckles or anyone of that sort.

That's not to say I'm not a fan of the other characters, heck, it was Sonic 2 that got me into the series, not Sonic 1, but before they just copy over everything they did with the previous Sonic game for some 25 mascot mess, it'd be best for them to make sure their foundation was good, and it'd hush up those who complain about having to play as anyone other than Sonic for even the briefest of moments.

I think it is about time that they sat down and focused on the origins of the series. I enjoyed the 3D offshoots this gen (especially SA2), but they each had some pretty severe flaws.

I would love to see them go back to the basics in a big way. They can even keep the gameplay in 3D, if they wish, as long as the mechanics are rock solid.

The only system for which they'd announce their next generation arcade games -- Afterburner, Virtua Fighter, The House of the Dead 4 -- at this game show is probably Lindbergh. The arcade release of these games is more important right now than some console port announcement.

uh? I thought the arcades were dying. Plus a Sonic game for the arcades doesn't sound right! Who plays platformers at the arcades?

umm wonder which lucky system got the Sega games.

Whichever system it is, let me do pre-emptive damage control for either camp by saying that SEGA has sucked hard and has for a long time, and this current gen has proved it! SEGA is a shadow of their former selves! XBX360/PS3/Rev (whichever didn't get SEGA) wins.

In case of multiplatform, disregard this post.

well, being that Sonic Rush is on the way, i could really care less about what direction they take this next Sonic game into. but here's hoping Sonic Team does what they should've done with 3D Sonic from the start.

Yeah, because we all know how important the arcade market is today. That's where the real money is!! +

Hey, I'm much more interested in those titles than you are (as I DO play games), but I know you only made that statement because it involves PowerVR. ;) The real money comes from home development...

This is about Sonic, not PowerVR.

Not for Sega Sammy. They make all of their money there (even the Sega side of the company themselves) and only lose money in home publishing.

The arcade releases identified were Afterburner, Virtua Fighter, and The House of the Dead 4, not Sonic.

oh I see, thanks for clearing that up.

When/where did Sega say that demo-ed Sonic's not for arcade? I don't know either way, but Sega didn't seem to seperate it from the rest during the demo reel.

...

Roll on September. Don't seriously think that it will be for arcade though. As for taking attention away from Shadow, well most people here think that would be a good idea.

The Next Level Sonic could've very possibly been on Lindbergh; nothing's been confirmed. That reply was only to point out that any announcement for a Sonic port wouldn't mean that a traditionally arcade based franchise like Afterburner would also be getting announced for a home port at that time.

all this information will be confirmed by the next Yuji Naka interview in JeuxFrance ... tell to JF that Sonic and other nextgen games will be announced during the TGS (announced for next console)

Nice... i think it will most likely be multiplatform... Xbox 360 / Playstation 3 and Maybe Revolution
Looking at the Sonic sales in the USA I come to the opinion, that the next gen Sonic will also be on Revolution.

Oh shit yes! I'm going to TGS, and after all the disappointing news today, this is excellent news. Of course if its Sonic on PS3 and I love it: wallet am cry.

Not for Sega. For the few years before Sammy came along the arcade division was Sega's only profitable game department, while the home division was still making big losses.

They'll be showing their arcade stuff on JAMMA (start of Sept), not TGS.
And on TGS me wants often rumored nextgen Panzer Dragoon to be finally revealed.

I agree. Sega should also make a new Panzer Dragoon game and not be stupid this time and let it be exclusive to the Rev.

Here's to hoping that the new Sonic doesn't suck and that Shadow bombs bad enough to make sega realize never to make such a game again.

No. No no no no, a thousand times no. X360/PS3 Panzer Dragoon RPG Next or not at all. A Revolution Panzer would force me to buy another doomed Nintendo console, and in the words of a badly subbed darth vader: "do not want".

Although even just the announcement of a possible Panzer Next in development, at TGS, would probably see my nutsack explode with the force of a thousand suns.

I can't wait for TGS now, finally some Sega stuff. Hopefully they dropped that Sega Rally 2005 crap and pushed it to X360/PS3.

One article stated that the game was moved to the Lindberg (sp?) arcade board.
