Yeah, i didn't like this episode very much.
School shooting was poorly executed. It felt like they were trying to pull of Breaking Bad season 5A spoiler
with train robbery and kid.
but it felt like Meh.
I didn't like how it was shot.

The kid doesn't need to have a main relationship to the plot. It could have even been a kid who's related to a gangbanger from a random crew we've never seen before, and the idea behind that scene would be the same.

I just thought it felt real hammy being unconnected. This show really has not done that before, and it felt out of place since normally everything is so interconnected.

Yup.

I'd feel differently if it was an older Abel or something.

It's weird because normally I'd be all over this kind of thing, but it felt real contrived the way this show did it.

I agree 100%. Everyone I watched the premiere with had the same feelings. It just didn't fit in and felt forced which is not something you want to feel when it's doing something like that. Very few shows do it right without feeling like it was forced in there for "other" reasons.

At least Tig cracked me up as usual.

Am I the only one that didn't like the introduction of the U.S. Marshall as his role as the lead antagonist in this season? It felt really sudden that this dude showed up after his sister, who was a no-name character in the series up until that point.

Are you really surprised about Jax doing that? Did you just start watching? He has always been fucking with other women even when he was in relationships.

It's nothing new or shocking.

Incorrect.

Yes, Jax has boinked other women in the past, but all those other times his and Tara's relationship was on the rocks. More importantly, they weren't married during those moments of infidelity.

Every time I see the "T" word I wonder about what could have been.

I liked the episode, I wonder if the ending is going to be focused on in future episodes.

Isn't it a little early to complain about it being unconnected? Maybe it serves as the basis for a major plotline this season. Would it have been better if it had happened off-camera?

CCHP is playing a DA.

As for the "randomness" discussion, the shooting would have been random had that scene not been preceded by others with the kid. By showing the kid, who is loosely related to the club through Nero's cousin, we the viewers make a connection. We also assume that the consequences of the shooting will trace back to the club and weigh heavily on the season's events.

‘SOA’ Creator Kurt Sutter Reacts To PTC Outrage Over Season Debut

“These guys turning these guns out on the street, selling them to people, unaware of who’s using them and what they’re being used for — to suggest that those guns could not fall into the hands of people that were going to hurt other people, including children … that’s ignorant … that’s almost more irresponsible.”

That should allay some fears about whether or not Sutter will address the consequences of the shooting.

Also a WTFSutter episode in which Kurt discusses reactions to the premiere.

Sutter probably masturbates at the thought of groups like PTC whining about his shows. I bet he was giggling like a Japanese schoolgirl when he found out.

This show is so crazily violent and sadistic that I thought for a second Tig was going to rape the guy's corpse.

Anyway, I like the concept of dealing with a school shooting quite a lot, with the the MC having funneled the gun that was used. I don't necessarily have much faith in the show executing it well. It's just not invested in Charming. The show is too insular to the MC, we really don't see any perspectives of this world from the anyone not tied to the MC.

Dude, every problem is "unconnected" to the Sons until it becomes their problem. The shooting was carried out with one of their guns. There's a very clear cause and effect relationship here.

The shooting was not only carried out with one of their guns, but apparently by the kid of some woman one of Nero's guys was seeing.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But I'm surprised that so many people are outraged over this. Especially given how much the show has done before (and we never heard a peep).

Finally caught up on this tonight. Felt like SoA...

Yeah, that's more or less my take on it. Will be interesting to see how they handle it.

I have no doubt it will be a pivot for the series. I'm just saying, for me, it felt shoehorned.

Seemed kind of random/forced of them to kill Navarro there.

Can anybody explain that to me? Was Nero trying to shoot the girl and missed or what? Doesn't make sense.

What is with Tara's awful hair cut and weight gain?

I don't know but Maggie Siff the actress that plays her might be pregnant. On tonight's episode
she asked her old boss for some blood work for a pregnancy test

The haircut gives me some serious Lena Headey TSCC vibes though.

Nero
killed Navarro because he was about to run away with his girlfriend. I don't know if thats a good reason but its all I can think of.

Good episode. Dave Navarro is a terrible actor - won't miss him.

Sepinwall, SoA and Sutter's biggest fan, was saying last week that 3 episodes into the season the show hasn't capitalized on exploring the fallout and consequences of the shooting. I think that's premature, as nobody would judge an entire season of a tv show based on 25% of the air time. They can't know what's going to happen. Sutter's seasons sometimes get a little sloppy in the middle with all the simultaneous plots, but it usually comes together by the end.

It seems like Sutter is basically showing that Samcro is not handling their role in the shooting well by focusing so much on protecting their own asses that Jax would have the mother sent to Belize. I doubt Sutter lets Jax and the Sons come out of this unscathed or unpunished. Then you have Bobby picking up another rider. I think Samcro is toast by the end of this season, and Jax is going to be left with practically nothing. Tara will be gone, the kids will be gone, and the club will be gone.

In short there's still time to explore and expand upon the fallout from the shooting. We're just a day into it within the show's timeline.

Well said, I can't believe that Jax
lied to Nero in his face right after he had Juice kill Navarro's girlfriend
Smitts did a really great job in this episode.

I don't know if anyone else has been watching it live but the commercial breaks have been long as hell for these past two 90 minute episodes. I really wish I had just recorded em and watched later.

What is Bobby planning on doing, exactly? Creating his own MC, with blackjack and hookers?

The premiére was better, and I missed the new characters in this episode. CCH has aged a lot... Navarro actor was indeed dreadful. Nothing much to see actually.
Oh yeah I love how that Irish pronounces Clay's name. "Clya".
