Just a way to kill Navarro or set him up for the fall. I can't see him having too major of a part in the season. Did he have more than one line of dialogue last night?

Nope. Or at least, I don't recall. But you bring up a good point that I hadn't considered. Since he is directly tied to Navarro's character, are we to assume he just took the gun from him? So the gun tied back to SAMCRO is because one of Nero's gang members had their gun taken from him by his girlfriends son?

I just assumed that the gun was bought illegally on the streets. But yeah, I guess the kid just took it from him? Wonder how that plays out.

Also was this the first time we actually saw some titties? Not covered up that is.

I was wondering that while watching that as well. "Did I just see a full tit in the background?"

That's what I assumed once I realized the kid was connected to him. Even if that isn't how the kid got it, SOA will probably assume it.

That happened before Sandy Hook. Now people are outraged because of that incident (especially because it involved children). Tates was mirroring Columbine, and that was 1999 teenager stuff.

A lot of the outrage might also be attributed to the fact that this seems -- rightly or wrongly -- to be attempting shock factor by using Sandy Hook, Aurora, etc, in order to do something bombastic.

Personally? I don't think that Charming as a town that other people live in besides the Sons or police has been developed enough to create an emotional resonance and feel genuine, though I understand that it's important to show to the tangible effects of the club's main source of income.

Good season opener I thought. Nice to see the Trig incident hasn't been forgotten about and I cannot wait to see him finally get his comeuppance for causing so much pain to Opie and then ultimately being the reason for his death.

Drowning the guy in piss was just terrible. No-one deserves to go out like that. No-one...and then piss on the dead guy is just....ugh. Anyway, nice to see Peter Weller, hope he sticks around and becomes a regular. Damn at the Juice beat-down and Jax already cheating and with an older woman..couldn't help but laugh at this development. A big LOL at Tara beating down the girl...guess that means she'll be in prison for some time to come...

Finally, not sure what to say about the school shooting, I thought for sure the kid would get caught up in something Samcro related, but then they threw that swerve ball. Jesus Christ.

I can't believe there is an uproar about the school shooting. Smuggling guns is the Sons' trade. This shit causes fallout beyond each plot line's shenanigans. It's like doing a show about the drug trade and not showing what happens to junkies.

And as for Jax, I've been crushing on Kim Dickens in Treme hard, so I understand.

Exactly. It's about time we see some real consequences for what the Sons do. I expect the town to turn against them. We'll see how they respond.

A few guys like Sepinwall are saying that three episodes in, they haven't "cashed in" on the opportunity of exploring the fallout of the school shooting. I haven't seen the episodes, obviously, but it seems premature to not think that there will be longer-term ramifications.

Sutter may be crazy and wicked, but I think he has a good grasp of what he wants to do with the event. He's not going to brush it aside and have the club not face dire consequences...I hope.

it's like they were trying for a breaking bad
plane crash
but this was done so artlessly

Breaking Bad, though a show far superior to this, wrote the plane crash off as some sort of curiosity. It said "Ain't that some shit?" and moved on.

oh wow... that
school shooting
scene. is fox news all over this now?

Does anyone even care about Sons? I mean, I always figured that while it was popular, it never really broke into the mainstream. It never gets coverage by the media or awards shows. So who is only now getting outraged by Sutter?

Yeah, always surprised me that this show gets actually more viewers than Breaking Bad.

She was at her peak in Deadwood. Lord, she was divine...

Why doesn't the guy deserve it? He fucking made profit off of the torture and rape of women against their will. He got a taste of his own medicine that he subjected people to. Since he's been introduced at the start of the episode, he's been pushing his luck and he just happened to say some shit that triggered the rage in Tig. Why would I be mad at scum putting down other scum? There's no redeemable characters in the world of SOA. Sutter is ratcheting this all up to show how far this club has fallen into the abyss.

It's interesting when you look at a show like BB and see all the fan-created content. People are incredibly dedicated and creative with expressing their passion for the show.

Sons has a huge viewership, but it seems like most people just kind of watch each week and that's it. I'm tempted to say that while Sons does have some great work in writing/acting/etc., it's broader appeal probably stems more from the violence and sex in a very basic way.

I guess I like to compare r/breakingbad to r/sonsofanarchy. One is incredibly busy, bubbling with all sorts of content, and the other gets some discussion but little in memes/drawings/gifs/etc. It makes me wonder about differences between the hardcore fans of the show.

Yeah, it's a popular show, and yet it always kind of has seemed to fly under the radar. Even outside of Awards shows, I never hear much about it in the media.

For the awards it's because FX has always been invisible to the critics for some reason (see no The Americans Emmy nomination) and especially because Sutter is a fucking hothead on his blog who isn't scared of pulling insults when they are necessary.
Also, I can say this show in Europe is almost non-existent. There are a lot of Italian BrBa fans for example (it's the fashion of the summer basically) but very few SoA watchers (all the ones I know, I was the one who pushed them towards it).
Who knows.

With this, it'll definitely have some spotlights on it. What happened didn't really bother me all that much, it is fiction after all, but i couldn't help thinking of how news stations like FOX would be all over this.

Breaking Bad is just so well thought out and executed. It has great characters and props. The show has transcended into pop culture. It's on the same level as The Sopranos and The Wire.

Yea I'm not disagreeing there. As much as I love Sons it's still a little trashy.

The point I meant to convey is that despite the amazing viewership numbers, Sons hasn't broken that plane that a show like Breaking Bad has. For a lot of people it's probably just a weekly escape and indulgence into sex and violence.

No Emmy nominations for The Americans is a rational response to that crappy show. The good shows on FX have trouble getting nominations, why should the worst drama they've launched since Dirt get any?

Yeah, it's odd to complain about such a character's death, especially one who was taking pleasure in talking about raping Tig's daughter, but the death really struck me as what is possibly the worst way to die.

He's there from start to finish. Really great in it too.

Oh no, I didn't stop watching because of him, Channel 4 just stopped showing it one day and then I forgot about it. Now that it's finished, I'll pick up the entire season on blu-ray or check it out on netflix. (if it's there)

Nope. Between Dirt and The Americans FX launched the following dramas: Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Terriers, Lights Out, and American Horror Story.

Every single one of those shows is significantly more interesting than The Americans. The critical reception to it is laughable.

I prefer The Americans to all of those series you listed, Justified included. It's the best drama on FX right now and one of the best on television.

Even if it's not for you, I'm not sure if the word "crappy" would be the best word to use. C'mon, man. Let's not throw bombs out there for the sake of stirring the pot. Crappy? Really? There are plenty of crappy shows. Let's save the proper adjectives for the right series.

That's high praise. I enjoy The Americans, but Justified is more entertaining IMO. The writing on that show is so damn good. Terriers was more entertaining as well.

The Americans is fine, though. Certainly better than Lights Out at the very least.

I've actually been disappointed in Justified the past two seasons. It's still a very well made show and I enjoy it a lot, but The Americans is really high-tier television. Never fell in love with Terriers, either.

FX is killing it lately. Wish they kept Terriers around.

The Americans is very good but I think I need to see where it goes next season. Justified is a top 5 show on tv, imo.

Peter Weller is actually playing Stan Liddy from Dexter. :p

Dexter season 5 spoiler:
Liddy has been brought back from the dead as a fully organic RoboCop.

I understood the scene, I just was a bit off-put by the fact that it was done by someone's kid who was not really related to the main plot.

That's the point - the gun inadvertently fell into unintended hands, and something terrible happened.

The kid doesn't need to have a main relationship to the plot. It could have even been a kid who's related to a gangbanger from a random crew we've never seen before, and the idea behind that scene would be the same.
